    Own a 50’s Std & R8… I can hear the same qualities in your video here as what I have identified in my two guitars: The Standard pickups sound a bit more cutting but not as pleasing as the R8 & R9. The R8 has such a warm/clear tone it’s very vintage sounding (cuppy/wooly)… Standard pickups sound a bit more dead but sharp. R9 sounded a bit between both. I demo’d R8’s & R9’s at length and bought the R8. The R8 just sounded magical, the R9 sounded 85% as good but less sustain/resonance… The Standard sounds great but not “magical” to my ears. Maybe it’s just the pickups or maybe it’s the whole construction/wood differences?

    • @Anandmahangoe
      @Anandmahangoe  Před 3 lety +5

      YOU are totally right my friend , somehow the R8 has more tone / character … the vintage sound. The R9 would be more modern sounding BUT was closest to the “Feel” I like…. Mainly because of the slimmer neck shape…. The Standard is an overall good Gibson LP for half the money, you can’t go wrong with it if your budget is that.
      I don’t think it is only pickups what you experienced with your guitars … has to be the whole wood thing and perhaps even the “weight relief” think which VOS Gibson dont have but the Standard should have….complicated thing but anyhow : if it sound right for you, it is RIGHT 😃

      There’s also the thing that the comparison was maybe only valid between the three actual guitars tested, and others may be different

    • @Anandmahangoe

      I fully agree with you man ! That sound of the R8 is the one …. So full of character and warm vintage……although the R9 felt right in my hands due to its neck shape, TONE wins….. so my choice would be the R8 …..luckily I found myself a nice 1993 LP “PreHistoric” ;)
      Thanks for your comment and perhaps time to add the missing R8 in your nice collection ??

    I’ve got 6 LPs. All USA. No Custom shops. I’m looking at an R8 next I think. I don’t like the Slash ones at all. Mostly because of that cartoon on the back of the headstock. I don’t mind signature ones that have it on maybe the truss cover or something you can remove but I hate the ones that are drove right into the finish. At least it’s on the back I guess

  • @JHKNVY02
    @JHKNVY02 Před 5 měsíci

    I spent three hours A/B/C/D/E an R7, R8, R9, R0, Standard, Classic, and Modern guitars. I liked the tone in that order and the shop had 3-4 of each model and played them all to pick the best (in my view) of each then shoot them out. From an audio perspective I liked the R8 best and the RO least, from a players perspective, I liked the R0 best and the R8 least. Audio memory is very short. Great video but I would recommend a much shorter sample then A, B, C otherwise its challenging to recall the difference and direct compare. I would also pull the instruments out of the mix at the end. Regardless great video.

    OK. I've listened through headphones and now I'm back at square one. I can't hear a difference!!! Maybe that's a good thing considering that neither guitar is low budget. Gibsons should sound great when you consider the cost of them. I visually prefer the look of the Slash guitar, by the way.

      Hey Enrico ! Thanks for your kind words, appreciated ! The more I get into vintage and warm sounds, the more I start appreciating that awesome R8 !! Actually the neck of the R8 feels like a proper good neck instead of the thinner R9 ( this was the guitar which felt right from the start because of its neck) . The Standard is in between the R8 en R9. I would not worry about small hands my friend…. The TONE of the R8 is more important and I am sure your hands will get used to it . @@Anandmahangoe your solo screamed emotion when you hit the higher notes on the r8. It definitely has "that sound"

      I totally understand man…. I would also not pay that much for a R9 but there are quite a lot of people who do….. I luckily found myself a great Reissue for less than half a R9 so totally happy….;)

      @@Anandmahangoe i got a 2013 LP traditional non weight relief w/ 57 classics which i think is one of the best "production" les paul, and it maybe the true 59 reissue by accident.. 🤘
