- ER Doctor, Jordan Wagner, is back on Experts React!
This episode, he’ll be reacting to the illnesses and injuries in “Red Dead Redemption 2”. From contracting tuberculosis, to knife, pistol and shotgun attacks, to 19th century surgeries and decaying bodies, the ER Doctor will tell us what is accurate and what is not in this game.
So, sit back and enjoy the ride!
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Western-themed action-adventure game. Played from a first or third-person perspective, the game is set in an open-world environment featuring a fictionalized version of the Western, Midwestern, and Southern United States in 1899, during the latter half of the Wild West era and the turn of the twentieth century. The game features both single-player and online multiplayer components, the latter released under Red Dead Online.
For most of the game, the player controls outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, as he completes numerous missions-linear scenarios with set objectives-to progress through the story; from the game's epilogue, the player controls John Marston, the playable protagonist of the game's predecessor, Red Dead Redemption.
Outside of missions, the player may freely roam the game's interactive world. The player may engage in combat with enemies using melee attacks, firearms, throwables, or explosives. Combat has been refined from the game's predecessor, and notable new mechanics consist of dual-wielding and the ability to use a bow. The player is granted the ability to swim as Arthur, but not as John-a reference to the previous game, where swimming led to instant death.

Hey everyone. Sorry about the few moments I misspoke about Tuberculosis being a virus, it very much is a bacteria. That was a covid slip, as we were talking about it off camera and it has been the hot topic to say the least this last year.
No problem doc you’re still far more educated in medicine than any of us.
Haha, no worries, I was wondering why you called it a virus though and then started listing off antibiotics, since they only have effects on bacteria.
On that topic, I once remember a medical student/junior doctor telling me Tuberculosis could cause calcification of the fatty tissue around a heart, is that true?
@@HazardSJ TB can cause calcifications in tissue and organs. There is some fat around the heart, not much. It’s more related to pericardial tuberculosis, not necessarily just fat.
I literally watch gamology just to hear what this guy has to say he’s awesome !
@@DoctorER Thank you for explaining this, I guess he was just trying to point out that it could cause calcification or was exaggerating the extent of it, but it always made me think that the heart would become encased in a bony like cocoon.

I actually read an article where they said a body's immune response is pretty good, not at fighting tuberculosis, but keeping it at bay. And, as long as a person is healthy and caring for themselves it could take years to present. They also said the kidnapping of Arthur by the O'driscolls is the point where the body has been compromised, Arthur is wounded, the immune response is weakened and that's what accelerated the tb.
Yeah also stranded on guarma Island definitely made it worse
He was then stranded on Guarma, and got beaten up pretty bad by Fussar's interrogator after the O'Driscoll's; Guarma also being a tropical island with high temperatures and humidity would've exacerbated the disease. It's unfortunate that Dutch condemned Arthur to death (by TB) from the beginning, by ensuring he'd never be able to return to New Austin/lower West Elizabeth again.
@@kimberlyh.1090I wouldn't really blame Dutch for Arthur getting tb, and the blackwater job happened before arthur got tb
It looked like Arthur went septic when he was held captive by the O’driscolls. The sepsis went to his lungs, since they were already infected with tuberculosis. After that, he didn’t have much time left. That one mission is what set it off, prior to that it was just a ticking time bomb.
Before anyone says anything, I’ve been septic before. I almost didn’t make it. Which is why I drew that conclusion, his symptoms were just too similar.
I like that he’s dressed as a doctor so we know he’s legit.

How tf did the whole gang not contract TB when Arthur was in close proximity to all of them for months without wearing a mask
That’s a good point 🤣
Because he wants in their face beating them up and spitting in their face
Some probably are however it isn't always symptomatic and even when it is it can take many years some people live large parts of their life while having it and nothing happens even dying before symptoms start
The likelihood of the gang all being asymptomatic is extremely unlikely though
1) story. they weren’t meant to get infected.
2) it’s not a 100% chance.
3) TB has a latent stage. he could have very well given someone TB and it could take a while to manifest depending on their health and lifestyle, though i dont believe he did... uhh is there any record of charles chateney in 1907? lmao
They spent all their time outside, with that type of ventilation, the risk is decreased. They may have contracted it but not develop symptoms. Latent TB is very common, and these people may not develop symptomatic disease until later in life.
Abigail dies in 1914 at the age of 37. It’s pure speculation, but I think it’d be interesting if she was confirmed to have died of TB.

@@KahosSaint you’re a fictional character!
Seeing this game spooked me the first time over, because when I was going into my career in education, I found out I was actually positive for TB.
I was thinking "holy shit, if I didn't take this type of job, could that have been me?" Which was actually very unlikely, as I had dormant TB, but it was a scare nonetheless.
Luckily, thanks to modern medicine, I just had to take pills for a few months that discolored my urine and I'm safer (can't completely get rid of it, but it's incredibly unlikely to be "awoken") and can work in my dream field 🙂
Happy to hear that you’re ok,good luck
This guy answered the question I was wondering the whole time through my playthrough....
Arthur finds out he's sick & then still sits down & has deep face-to-face conversations....but none of them get tuberculosis. You would think, if you have advanced tuberculosis & you have several conversations within 2 feet of someone...at least one of em would get sick
Did nobody tell the doctor that, in game, Arthur’s symptoms don’t begin to manifest until months after he was first exposed? Apparently, TB is affected by heat and humidity, so it’s fitting that Arthur’s symptoms got significantly worse after returning from Guarma (a tropical island).
Dude I was just sitting here like “wow they gave him no context to what’s happening” like if I was there I’d tell him more important things like that how he went to guarma
That’s one issue that I’ve noticed quite often with this channel.
Also, using mods. Most of the GTA react videos was just reacting to random mods.
That's really debatable. It can be argued that he got it from Hosea, not Downes like he thought.
Hosea was in really bad shape, the same as Arthur, the ginseng elixir, and wanting Dutch to stay in mild/ arid/ not humid climates as opposed to wet and cold ones, on top of the fact that it was known that he was constantly sick, coughing and wheezing. There's even moments in camp where Hosea has coughing fits, and i'm fairly certain in the beginning of the game, Arthur has a regular cough.
It wasn't old age, it was TB. In fact, he probably infected the majority, if not everyone in the camp with it.

Roger Clark did an amazing job portraying the symptoms slowly getting worse. At first it was just an occasional small cough, then an occasional small cough and a throat clear, then it was an occasional normal cough and throat clear combo, then he added taking a small breath after, then he changed taking a small breath by adding in a mild wheeze, after he collapses it becomes frequent coughing and wheezing, then it went to full-blown lung failure and constant wheezing until he died.
It still blows my mind that he made ALL of those stages entirely believable. A great example of that comes after Arthur blows up the tracks with John late in the game. You're given the option to leave with him to continue the story or stay there and do more side stuff. If you choose to stay, don't move Arthur, just let him sit there and listen to him. The blood color changes to darker depends where you shoot the NPC. For that reason, it's the most detailed game I've ever seen.
It still wouldn’t matter, there’s arteries everywhere veins are. If your shot in a vein in would be darker but also bleed a lot more slowly than an artery
@@RagingUtai tlou 2 is a masterpiece
@Xerius the gameplay is the same as the first and even then isn't anything special. It's serviceable and satisfactory but nothing to be praised.

@@pn7600 Yes the writing and characterization is really good even if you know Arthur’s gonna die it’s still worth it to experience the story
Arthur’s eyes looked dark in the end because he got in a fist fight with Micah, not because of TB.
when they were talking about the jugular, it reminded me of the time i came home to my dog attacked by something unknown. the way it relates is that the vet told us there was a cut on her neck which almost hit the jugular

@@DoctorER Hey doc, it's my time to take you to a field trip.
Clicked to see your take on the tuberculosis contraction scene. Cool that it’s medically accurate.
“Uhhh Dutch, he’s a rat”
He’s spreading the virus talking to this guy. 🤣
I think it was because this was such an emotional moment in the game I found this very funny.
I honestly never knew Red Dead 2 had a necrosis and decay aspect. Makes it so much better, more realistic. All this info was great too
I knew that they had it for animals, but I didn't know they had it for humans too
@@jcoolguy1548you can also use dead humans or animals as bait. I did it when I was hunting for panthers, or grizzlies
I really enjoy watching this doctor analyse all the medically related moments in games.

2:29 yeah theres a several month difference between downes coughing on arthur and arthur going to the doctor. 3-4 chapter difference

RIP Author, although he is an outlaw, he’s a good man. He would have been a great husband and a father.
RIP Author. He wrote many great books
"Dutch taught me to read. John to."
@@RockApe_ 😂
Maybe not the husband part exploration point you made a good brother-in-law and uncle what would his relationship with John and his family. But as a husband while there is a reason the woman he loved didn't marry him! She loved them she still love them even visiting his grave after he died. Buy believe the entire subplot explain why the two of them would never work because there was no way he would ever have been able to get out of the game oh, the outlaw game I mean! That one is sadly because of Dutch and Man Arthur would have had none but the shake of his head if he saw where Dutch ended up by the events of the first game up to the point he committed suicide when John finally cornered him! A man who fought and hated the system... Because he wasn't a part of it is the best way to kind of describe Dutch. The death of his best friends after that bank robbery by the pinkertons pretty much cemented that Dutch was doomed , Micah didn't make it any better Bud Micah only fan the Flames that were already there to the point that you could say the only good decision Dutch ever made was finally seeing Micah for the snake he was by the end of the epilogue
Rip Arthur, but i hope Author of this video wont rest in peace because of the major spoilers and no warning

Heck, I learned more about detective techniques & what kind of information that laboratory forensics analysis can show us from Batman comics than anywhere else. For instance, it's extremely difficult to find a criminal suspect who is missing so instead the detectives will look to see if there's a money trail being left behind...Don't follow the person, follow the money.
@@MidnightDStroyer Yes, follow the paper trail, be it money or documents.
