    The brake wear, tire wear, and suspension component wear will be incredible!

      @BobPritchard Před měsícem +10

      Not so much on the brake wear because of brake regeneration. Brakes last much longer on EV's and they are all heavy.

    • @kelviskelvis7140
      @kelviskelvis7140 Před měsícem +8

      @DaveInCanada081 You have it backwards this truck will have minimal brake wear - regenerative braking is done with one petal drive. Trims without the air suspension are very well tuned and will not pose an issue. Tire wear will be an issue. That 2000lbs will be useful for stability while towing any trailer over that 3500srw towing identical item. This is a very useful pick up truck. Price is high upfront, however 1/4 the operating cost when charged at home. That will be a significant saving over the life of this truck. This truck is a winner.

      Regenerative braking will save on brake wear but the other wear factors are correct. The biggest issue I have heard raised is that these things are so heavy that guard rails are ineffective against them and collisions with other vehicles are going to be very deadly.

      Elon needs to swallow his pride and make nice with some experts in the auto industry. He wants to approach car building from outside of the box, but most of the issues with the CT so far are issues that wouldn't exist if he had auto industry experts. Rainwater intrusion, traction control issues, sharp edges on panels, etc. Even the reliance on the touchscreen interface to do certain things... yeah it's the futuristic vibe they went for but it shouldn't require sliding fingers on the screen to change directions and searching through huge menus to find the power off button.

  • @trobbins88
    @trobbins88 Před měsícem +2

    Looks-wise, I like it. But that is where it stops. Putting all the politics aside, there are three reasons I am against EV's.
    1. The lack of a robust charging network, especially for those without the ability to have a charge station at their home. If you want EV's to be mainstream, there has to be as many charge stations as gas stations, and they have to be reliable.
    2. Range, Range, Range. In colder climates, range declines. In doing truck stuff, range declines. With towing, range declines. And without the ability to fill up at a gas station and get 100% in just a few minutes, charging becomes more of an obstacle than a convenience.
    3. Price of an EV vs spending that premium on gas. This is a $100,000 truck. You can get a really nicely loaded Silverado for less than $80,000. Assuming 20mpg and gas around $3.50 per gallon, $20,000 can buy a lot of gas, sometimes equivalent to over 150,000 miles worth of driving.
    My dad bought a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V6. He just drove to Florida. On the highway, he was averaging over 28mpg. When he was filling his gas tank, he was able to get over 600 miles per tank. If that were an EV, he would have needed to charge (to 80%) at least twice for each 5 minute stop at a gas station. His 18 hour trip from Florida to Michigan would have been much longer if each charging stop would be between 30-60 minutes long. EV's will eventually have their place in this world, but the world is not ready for them yet...they are toys for the rich.

    • @xLopez210x
      @xLopez210x Před měsícem

      I get your concerns, but EVs are already making huge strides. The charging network is expanding rapidly, especially with Tesla’s infrastructure, which is great for road trips. Next year, the NACS design will become the standard, making things even better. When I’m road-tripping, I enjoy the 10-45 minute stops to eat, play with my dogs, and visit interesting places like the world’s largest truck stop. Charging costs are about 1/3 of what I’d spend on gas, and there’s no maintenance due to fewer moving parts.
      The Silverado EV currently has the most range of any EV on the market. Plus, anything I’ve towed with gas vehicles gets reduced mileage anyway, so it’s not like EVs are at a disadvantage there. While the upfront cost is higher, the long-term savings on fuel and maintenance often make EVs more economical. And let’s not forget the environmental benefits.
      I also like Jeeps and even own a ‘92 YJ, but for traveling cross-country, not everyone wants to be in a 600-mile Cherokee. Your dad’s road trip example is valid, but with more fast-charging stations and increased range, EVs are becoming more viable for long trips too. EVs aren’t just ‘toys for the rich’ - they’re the future of sustainable transportation.

      @@plmn93 I understand the concern about the potential demand from quick charging at scale. However, it’s important to note that not every charging station will be at full capacity 24/7. Many advancements are being made in grid management and renewable energy integration to support this growing demand. Plus, the convenience and cost savings of EVs, along with their environmental benefits, make them a worthwhile investment. As infrastructure continues to improve, these logistical challenges will become more manageable. Unless I’m misunderstanding the whole discussion.

      @@xLopez210x Even if batteries hold more power and charging gets quicker, the amount of electricity needed does not change and getting there will take decades, if it is even possible at all in an era where the most efficient forms of power generation are not politically possible. I think EVs have their place, but not in the numbers governments are pushing. The math doesn't work.

      It's funny, someone did an A/B comparison between the current interior of an uplevel Chevy and GMC truck. It isn't until you compare a Denali Ultimate to a High Country where the interiors diverge a bit more.

    • @xLopez210x
      @xLopez210x Před měsícem

      The weight difference doesn’t negate the advantages of EVs. For one, the environmental benefits are huge-less pollution and lower carbon footprint. Plus, I’d rather spend $12-20 on a full charge than $65+ on gas for the same range. EVs also offer smoother, quieter rides and have fewer maintenance issues compared to ICE vehicles. The weight is a small trade-off for all the benefits you get in return.

    • @dwnrange7812
      @dwnrange7812 Před měsícem

      How is this an environmental 'advantage'? When we have millions of 9,000 lb plus cars on the road, what do u think happens to the roads, which are in bad shape already? & the immense amount of mining, the gigantic 100 khw plus batteries that have no 2nd life usage at all & end up in waste fields, etc?

      @@dwnrange7812 Your concerns about the environmental impact sounds like they are coming from a Karen who doesn’t do proper research. EV batteries are increasingly being recycled and repurposed for second-life applications, such as energy storage systems, not only through Tesla but through other third party companies we’ve seen on other CZcamsrs channels. Advances in battery technology and recycling processes are continually improving to address these issues. As for road wear, you’re just ok with what regular 9,000lbs ICE vehicles are doing to the road and well as ICE plow trucks during winter but EV’s are the problem…. Ok?
      EVs are part of the shift towards a more sustainable future, reducing overall emissions and pollution. While no solution is perfect, the long-term environmental benefits of EVs outweigh the current challenges. It’s about making progress towards a cleaner, more efficient transportation system.

It's not, that heavy/Wh pack is designed that way so you can have structural rigidity, even with removable glass roof. My point is that the sails are not for structural rigidity as you said (that's provided by the pack and elsewhere) but for aero, they pulled every aero trick out of the book for this one.

    Also disagree that EV's are only for light towing, because of the truck you are reviewing here. Real world tests are getting 500+ miles (see TFL). If you calculate out a 20%-80% charge that's a 40 minute charge time for 300+ miles driving even with a trailer (just don't drive fast and stupid) - that's plenty for most people including long distance, because its a single charge on a tow day.

      They aren't really marketing it as one nor are they forcing anyone to buy it. They sell 800k+ trucks each year and announced a year to two ago that they were developing their next-gen V8's. The EV RST is meant to compete head-on with the Cybertruck in markets where the Cybertruck is popular. It isn't being sold as a replacement for ICE powered trucks for the average truck buyer. They are happy to offer a wide variety of combustion engine powered trucks for those buyers.
