In case you're curious about why the flag is so similar to Romania, when Chad gained it's independence from France Romania was still under communist rule and had a different flag with a coat of arms in the middle similar to Moldova or Andorra. In 1989 after fall of communism they reverted back to their pre 1948 flag which is almost the exact same as Chad's flag. Both countries think the other should change but neither are willing.
Something similar happened between Haiti and Liechtenstein, who both had the same flag without realizing it until the 1936 Olympics. After that they both decided to change, with Liechtenstein adding a crown and Haiti adding a coat of arms.

I used to be resident of Chad while working for ExxonMobil. I was teaching in N'Djamena and later down at Kome base 5. In the middle of no place sits a giant 6 turbine power plant. There is also a pumping station with water separation from oil and reinjection. It is the beginning of a 600 mile pipeline all the way to ports in Cameroon. N’Djamena is also the wintering grounds for hundreds of bird types and butterflies. The dessert dust is called the Harmattan. This dust can travel down Africa past Angola, across the Atlantic, and up as far as Texas.
