    6:44 that's a horrible example to use with this. This only happens in the movie. Dumbledore, being headmaster, lifted this enchantment in the great hall during Harry's 6th year so they could have their first apparition lesson inside because the weather wouldn't allow it outside as was typical. He and Harry did not apparate to that cave from the astronomy tower in the book. They walked to Hogsmeade with Harry under his cloak. When they came back, they flew on brooms from Hogsmeade to the astronomy tower.
    9:00 by the time it was necessary for them to have secret keepers, the Burrow was already evacuated. Arthur was secret keeper for Aunt Muriel's.

      Too many somehow believe that three of the four Hogwarts' houses are untarnished and pristine.
      Slytherin wouldn't have gained the reputation it did if not for the Knights of Walpurgis, which did seem to be made up of Slytherin students that were orbiting around Tom, and their sons continued their tradition. However, JKR revealed the truth, and didn't lay his followers to just Slytherin.
      “They were a motley collection; a mixture of the weak seeking protection, the ambitious seeking some shared glory, and the thuggish gravitating toward a leader who could show them more refined forms of cruelty.”-- JKR
      She didn't mention any house, and they ended up becoming a gang of thugs headed by a grand thug. They were from all the houses, and those that were homeschooled. I think JKR modeled them on the Klan, and I believe that was where she obtained the surname, Nott. Nott was an early US physician responsible for scientific racism. Nott was also the closest to Tom.
      Tom was a psychopath and criminal, and he showed that at an early age. Dumbledore laid his behavior to a lack of love, but psychopaths have no feelings, and they can feel no empathy. Tom would have been from the dark triad in psychopathy. Bellatrix was another, and she gravitated toward Tom.
      Much of this goes back to Salazar Slytherin, and a myth told by gossipers. The idea of breeding pure bloods wasn't around during his time, since he was pre-Norman. Marrying cousins came over with the French aristocrats, and it was all about keeping wealth and power in the family.
      It is my opinion that Salazar, when speaking of all magical families, meant just that, where labels such as pureblood, halfblood, and muggleborn didn't exist. It was about protecting the school from the rising Christian persecution of heretics, which became the Inquisition in 1184.
      I think that Salazar created the chamber and basilisk to be used by his descendants if the castle was ever overrun by the muggles, such as the crusaders. The chamber was never opened for that, and until Tom came to Hogwarts. I also think that pureblood mania didn't exist until the Statute of Secrecy and the Witch Hunts.

    The patronus misconception comes from another misconception. Dementors can be communicated with in the books. Most dark wizards don't see a need to know the patronus because the dementors will generally leave them alone because they can help provide them a larger source of victims so dementors naturally tend to be more aligned with dark wizards. Umbridge probably didn't even need the patronus when she sent the dementors after Harry in OOTP

      He borrowed Sirius' motorbike but Sirius was in Azkaban. How did he know where to go to get it?

He was put there for the events that happened that night and the next day - betraying the Potters and supposedly killing Pettigrew and all the muggles behind him in the street the next day. He still got to the house on the rock tho, by, in his own words, flying. That doesn't make sense unless Hagrid is secretly a master wizard (which I'd support 100%). Then they stole the dursleys' boat and left them stranded, which is also funny, and leaves us with another mystery: How did the Dursleys get back home?

  • @nrkgalt
    @nrkgalt Před 4 měsíci +2

    Letters are sent to new students from wizard families, while for muggle born students an official from the school visits the home. There must have been some sort of miscommunication when they sent letters to Harry at the Dursleys. While Harry did have wizard biological parents, he was raised by muggles.

    • @riluna3695
      @riluna3695 Před 4 měsíci

      I think the idea behind sending the regular letter to Harry was that the Dursleys absolutely knew he was magical, even if he didn't himself. Mostly the Special Envoy's job is to inform the parents about the existence of magic, and likely the importance of secrecy on the topic.
      It's also possible Dumbledore was trolling the Dursleys. It wouldn't be the only time he does.

    Not to do with the movies themselves but does anyone know where the fan-made myth about Harry’s screams in OOTP come from?
    It seems to be VERY widely believed (and fiercely defended) by fans that Daniels screams are muted after Sirius’s death because it was ‘too upsetting’ for the other cast members to hear and that his screams were so painful due to Harry losing his Grandma that day
    Neither of those things are true and are quite easily disproved by looking at interviews, the timeline of Daniels career etc and yet SO many people seem to adamantly believe it

  • @IAmMissingnoMaster

    It's the act of killing that splits the soul, not just killing with intent to make a Horcrux. The whole Horcrux thing is just taking that newly split bit of soul and encasing it. Voldemort might have only intended to split his soul so many times, but with all the murder he committed, his soul is a fine powder by this point.

    Actually they walked to hogsmeade then apparated to the cliffs. Then they apparated back to hogsmeade. That's when they used brooms to fly to the tower because the dark mark was above it. During the flight Dumbledore lowered an EXTRA protective spell he had put in place that had nothing to do with the apparition prevention. As for blocking the killing curse he used a statue to block it. You still have to hit someone with the spell for it to work just like any spell. It's not automatic.

Sometimes I wonder if JK even reread any of her books or kept up with small details when writing the other books and forgot some things.

    About the time travel part, you are actually wrong. You can actually change the past with a Time Turner but it is an ill-conceived idea to actually try as the Novikov Self-Consistency Principle is the only proven safe way to use time travel. But you can do it and I don't mean like they would do in the Cursed Child (which I know not everyone consider as canon). When Harry and Hermione travel back in time in Prisoner of Azkaban, there is a moment where Harry is ready to rush Hagrid's cabin to capture Pettigrew but Hermione stops him, stating that Professor McGonnagol told her of other wizards and witches who had made similar mistakes AND ended up killing their future or past selves... This would off course create time paradoxes but going by Hermione's warning not even that is impossible (which is just another reason why Time Magic is so extremely dangerous). Altering the past is possible but it would create paradoxes and isn't really healthy for the time stream. There is also the Pottermore example of Eloise Mintumble, whose horrifying time mishap caused her to travel back from 1899 to 1402 and not only on return aged 5 centuries, also caused the "Un-birth" of 25 people, causing them to cease ever having existed...

    Yeah no, it is clearly stated that other items with certain ''invisibility'' enchantments exist but actually if we are following the book it does seem that by the end not only was Harry's cloak always much more potent than the other ones (as stated by Ron immediately) it ended up being a very special cloak and maybe even unique. The story hints that it is ridiculous to think that Death actually gave the hallows to the wizards but there is also no definitive answer to it in the book itself. It would cause too many problems for the story if these 3 items were simply created by 3 regular wizards no matter how talented they may have been. As is the nature with open answers, the truth would lie somewhere in between.

      In fandom this is often used to say that Hermione had almost a year to go crazy reading about magic. Also I find it odd that we are expected to believe that muggleborns will easily prepare for a magical school a few weeks before they are supposed to show up, This is obviously a reference to how the admission process to an exclusive school works (say, Eton) but those schools don't hunt down kids who have never heard of them, convince their parents to give them an education in something they never believed in, and take them off to a foreign and inaccessible location. It doesn't seem important that fans don't guess that this mess is the quote real way things work.

I believed all of those before I read the books. Just one small thing you were wrong about- Quirinus Quirrell was a technical Horcrux and you didn't mention him.
