      They barely got away with this show when it originally aired from 1987-97. Millions of Americans loved it, but millions hated it. You have to remember at that time it was THE most raunchy and offensive show that had ever been on regular network television. You could see plenty of “dirty” and offensive shows on cable channels you had to pay for, like HBO. But “Married With Children” was on regular free network television at 9pm on Sunday nights, and that was considered “family viewing” time, so a lot of kids saw this show (I knew kids whose parents forbid them to watch it). There were lots of groups, especially religious groups, that tried to get the show taken off the air with boycotts and public picketing outside the studio in Hollywood where it was filmed. But all of the protests had the opposite effect: it made people curious about the show, which only caused millions more to watch it.

  • @What_Makes_Climate_Tick
    @What_Makes_Climate_Tick Před 26 dny +5

    Married With Children was one of the first shows on the Fox Network. Various specialized cable channels were in existence, but Fox Network (not to be confused with Fox News), in the late 80s, was the first new network to follow the business model of the older networks by offering programming through local affiliate broadcast stations. But it was edgier than the older networks. The Simpsons started on that network a few years later.

    Hi Kabir! This was one of my favorite shows back in the '90's! Christina Applegate, Kelly Bundy, was very easy on the eyes and played the archetype "dumb blond", while the rest of the cast helped with the comidic aspect.
    Some of the jokes make more sense if you know the interpersonal relationships. For instance, the next door neighbor, Marcy, was often referred by Al as being a chicken, hence her bringing the eggs she brought, as being an addition to the family.
