Seems like he should've to get peoples attention to get them out of the way or am I trippin? I work in retail in a what you would say is a bit more up market super market. This does happen it is unintentional and we always correct the price at the till , if brought to our attention . How ever it is happening more often , that is due to lack of staff . We use to run on 9 people night shift , we now run on 4 . We do get in trouble for these type of errors and they are taken seriously by management , display tickets have to be changed , fruit and veg must display country of origin thats a whole nother procedure . What do you expect when there's not enough staff to get the job done . This isn't just my super market its a few that i shop in as well . What with the new ordering online and mopeds delivering in 10 minutes mistakes are going to happen . Theres a whole lot more to stacking shelves then what people think 1 minute i'm putting out meat then i'm told go on a till but wait dont leave your stack on the shop floor health and safty , as I come off the till and go back to stacking the bell rings for a collection , then i'm stopped by a customer to help them then a manager says why haven't you filled the meat yet . The jobs are timed so your speed walking the entire shift all with a smile . Try not to look at a customer because you won't get the job done if they ask you some thing . The shop should honour the shelf ticket price or not sell the goods until price has been corrected . Sorry this was a long rant . I'm leaving the job after 22 years because of the unreasonable pressure put on staff members , all because the head of the company and share holders want bigger profits . They can't put the prices up so they cut staff . Its become a sh..t show , and the customer and staff pays the price.. Always get a reciept and check it.

What would solve this is a nationwide law that says every product must have a price label on it so you don't have to try to remember what the shelf label says for each item in your cart. If you have a full cart, you're not going to go through the through the trouble of trying to remember the exact price of each and every item. It would never happen because the industry has enough lobbyist to stop something like that. Strangely enough, small stores that sell ethnic specific products typically do put price stickers on each and every item. But that's more because they can't afford the computerized inventory system that would be needed like these larger chain shops use.

I have noticed this many, many times. Another issue is that as they ring you up at the register, instead of the item list appearing on the screens shown to to customer, there is always a delay, that doesn't ever come up unless you clear their "survey". Even then, sometimes it is so slow, the habit would be to have your bill paid for before even seeing the breakdown. It is super frustrating and sketchy as all get out. I wouldn't put it past them to add skimmers on the credit card machines. The only thing stopping them from that is probably the cliental not having much money.

I've never shopped at DG, but I have shopped many times at our 99 Cents Only stores. Now they are closing down too. Though lately, hardly anything there was 99 cents anymore. It had become more like the $1.99 store, lol. Still going to miss it though. Edit: Typo

My niece lives on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks. To go to WalMart was an all day affair for them, because they had to go two or three islands up the coast and then onto the mainland to get to one. They did it about every 6 weeks or so, but other than that, if it wasn't available at Food Lion or the Thrift Shop, they had to wait for the time to go to Walmart or Target, which is even further away. They do use Amazon, but that can be a pain because of their using a PO Box instead of having home delivery. (They actually do both now, but the mailbox is not close to the house. You can't even see it from their house, so NOT a good place to leave packages. A few years ago they got a Dollar General on the island. They shop there SO MUCH. Her husband said, "I can buy my socks and underwear on the island!" I had no idea Dollar General was pulling this crap. I have only ever been in once or twice. I've never been all that impressed. Here, if you have a car, you can go where ever you need to, to get the best price. I also use my computer, using stores' onilne shopping capabilities to compare prices (especially grocery prices these days!) before we leave the house. But the stores in our area (and there are several) are all located near low-income housing of some sort. So people are taking the bus or walking to DG because it's handy, and they haven't got the ability to hop in a car and drive to the next town to get to the Walmart. I have always been one to check prices on the package (when possible) the shelf, a flyer, if that's applicable and definitely my receipt. And I am not shy when it comes to pointing out discrepancies. I was at a large grocery store chain one night with all of my sisters (5 of us) and it was my birthday outing. We'd stopped to get pastries for our dessert. They had a shelf of these sweet ice cream bowls in pastel colors, listed on the shelf at 6 for $2.99. I was all over it! So we got up to check out and the price was coming up as $2.99 each. I stopped the clerk and informed her of the discrepancy and she balked and said it was obviously an error. "I guess it is, but I got the six bowls based on the price on that shelf. You must sell it to me at that price." She rang for the manager and the manager agreed with me, but she went to that shelf immediately and changed that sign! That didn't bother me in the least. :)

DG is actually a positive for my community as we do not have a grocery store, besides WalMart which is ~20 minutes away. While that isn't far, DG is more convenient and will sell more things than what Kwik Trip (gas station) will have. Plus they got self-checkout so that's a win for me. To clarify, we aren't a poor community, but middle class. Just a small town!
