Uptick as always, wonderful to vicariously follow along on one of your hunts. A video like this should put to pay the notion for all the Rolex fanboys that there is an exclusivity and frankly a notion of luxury when it come to Rolex vs comparable brands. Unless, there is nothing more luxurious than paying twice as much for a mass produced product in shrink wrap and displayed in its hundreds if not thousands within one square kilometer. Cheers!

Rolex is one of the largest watch producers; a couple of years ago I looked up the annual production numbers and it was around the 750,000 unit figure. Sure enough there are those who belief that they are so rare that only a few thousands are made each year, but that would not even allow every one of their dealers a single watch to sell.

I see all these Rolex in cases ... makes me sad. At least the positive thing I experienced in Japan buying a Rolex from a boutique gives me hope. I was able to get the modern explorer with no purchase history from the local Rolex boutique when I went to get a replacement strap for my dad's old Cellini. I chatted with the sales rep about my watch collection and how I love the explorer while I was waiting for the paperwork. When I was about to leave, the rep came over and offered me the explorer. I then had to sign a doc or something and they jotted down my ID. The reason is because they only sell one sports model per year per customer (they gave me a list) in order to prevent scalpers. They said they want to only sell to people who really want the watch. It seems that Rolex Japan as a whole is keen on tackling the shortage issue fairly. No waitlists too. Hope more countries do this.

I had a similar experience. Got an Explorer from AD last week. The AD knew I was genuinely interested the watch and was excited just to try it on. They offered with only one prior Tudor purchase but i didn't have to sign anything. But yeah if they believe you're not a flipper then you have a chance.

I'm not sure I understand economics. thousands of Rolex for sale, and yet the prices keep going up. It is the same on Chron24 etc. I suppose they must turn over enough of them to create cashflow but I see the same watches lingering and not being sold. And many of the watches you mention have "been there forever" - it seems to me that something is going to give eventually. Inflation is everywhere right now, the imminent collapse of Evergrande who just missed another payment deadline, and yet I suspect Phillips will still have a bumper auction today and tomorrow. And I too have been affected by the hype, I've only considered buying Rolex in the last year or so (having been happy with my JLC, Omega, Longines, Zenith etc.) but I noticed myself pausing the video to check prices on some of those watches - milgauss selling for 1500 more than retail for example (I would love a z-blue). And all the commentators saying buy now as prices are going just one way... and then I remember Ireland's property bubble and the crash. I'll just have to keep bringing in bottles of wine to the manager of my AD and hope for the best!

I don't understand the economics of keeping so much inventory and asking inflated prices. Wouldn't it make more sense to move the inventory and develop a reputation as an honest reseller with better prices? A lower margin but higher volume model would seem to make sense in the current market, especially considering the opportunity cost of tying up capital (current interest rates and potential returns on alternative investments).

The are real watches. The HK customs will close them down quickly if they dare to sell a fake.

@@scalarX @SnooZE many thanks for this information .
I was not a knowing that in HK had such restrictive laws.
Now I understand why in Italy we have to wait from 6/8 months to have a rolex (with prices from fear), the productions all end up in HK😂😂😂
