      I've never needed magnification or a loop to spot a fake. Not even with the $1300 clones. If you know your stuff, it's not even close. No disrespect to the video creator, but the replica in this video is terrible and it was startlingly obvious even in the small CZcams mobile app view.

      If accuracy and power reserve matters in luxury watches they would all be solar-powered quartz.
      Luxury watches have value because they are expensive. Not the other way around.

    • @fontyyy
      @fontyyy Před 2 dny

      Accuracy? They can be regulated to gen/COSC spec, will they stay there as long as a gen? No. Will they arrive from China like that? Unlikely.
      Power reserve? On the replica movements they're identical, a main spring is not an expensive item to copy.
      Often the micro rotor models which lack the precious metal rotor don't wind themselves as well.
      If it's a (decorated if clear caseback) Myoto movement then obviously the power reserve will be the same as the original movement.

      @@BobbyL2k That only applies to Hublot. Most brands are actually trying to make accurate and precise watches. Much time is spent in designing and finishing the movement parts, using good materials to reduce friction and increase functionality. Cameron Weiss explain this with great detail in his video series which i highly suggest taking a look at if you are deeply interested in this topic.

    The sacrifices made to eventually acquire the expensive watch I wanted mattered to me. The journey to the final destination was part of the fun.

      It's probably a lot more risk to start your own brand. They basically spend near-zero in marketing and product design, and they can produce as many watches as their facilities are able to, and sell them all out if they're any good. If they want to move into the $1k-$2k, I'm guessing they can just make the replicas even better, and people will flock to buy them.

    Regarded the engraved crown... I was under the assumption that the gen looks 'misaligned' by design because the engraving is done on different layers in the crystal instead of just superficial like the fake. This will cause a bit of parallaxing when moving the viewing angle. The fact that the crown looks 'perfect' from any random angle actually IS the tell. Don't qoute me on that, just something I came across somewhere.

    • @cos-9113
      @cos-9113 Před 2 dny

      Yes, from directly above the real crown in the crystal will look very good, but as you move off angle you will be able to see it look worse. But I’m sure the fakes will get this right soon if people start using this to tell fakes. As for the engraving in the rehaute real Rolexes often look like what you are showing as a tell for the fake, again depending on the angle you look at it and the magnification.

    At this point there really is only one reliable way to authenticate a Rolex, open the case and if there is a regulator on the balance, which you clearly can see without a magnifier or a comparison watch, then it is not a genuine Rolex. Manufacturing a free sprung balance with microstella adjustment is very difficult and expensive, so counterfeiters aren't inclined to do it, yet.

    Jennie, you probably have to play the pretend game by talking about a $60K mistake, but you know as well as anybody else that nobody on this planet is stupid enough to buy a PP for $60K without exercising due diligence.
    So what is this about then?
    Simple, you sit 100 average Joe's down and offer them either a $60K GEN PP or, alternatively, a $500 top-tier replica, which can be frankened with GEN dial and reworking the case to get to 98% to 99%, PLUS an additional $59,500 in CASH.
    Your guess, lil' girl, how many of these 100 chaps will choose the replica plus the cash?
    And there you have it: for the overwhelming majority of people who have to work for the money, the high-end rep will serve the purpose, the feeling of having a luxury watch on their wrist, weather it's a Rolex, a Cartier, an AP, or a PP. Today's replicas have become so perfect, and that extends to the in-house movements, that only an expert can tell 'em apart. I know several very well off folks who have high end GEN watches but also high-end replicas.

    There are a couple very popular CZcamsrs who abhor replicas (I hate the name fakes). I ask you, what is a guy supposed to do who adores a Rolex Daydate e.g and can only dream of buying a REAL one....is he going to buy lottery tickets for the rest of his life???😅. He buys a good replica and is in awe of the high degree of workmanship to get it to look 100% like the original. 😊. Seriously, Rolex didn't just lose a sale because he was NEVER in the market to buy one in the first place!!!! By buying the replica, his interest in Rolex watches is even higher and it keeps interest in the brand. Suppose NO replicas were avaliable....he probably would lose interest in Rolex or even watches all together!!!😢. The problem I have with replicas is w❤❤😊hen some manufacturers go so far to produce serial numbers of existing REAL watches AND also produce fake BOX and PAPERS of authenticity!!! This is highly criminal. You MUST draw the line some where!!!! So you see, i am in favour of replicas UP TO A POINT!!!! lovely word creation. But legally it's still dirty idea theft and no fancy words will change that :)

      The definition of “homage” is “special honor or respect shown publicly.” An “infringement” is a violation. Respectful violation is an oxymoron.

    Assuming someone isn’t trying to sell a fake watch as a real one, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with fake watches.
    Is it stealing from the brands they’re knocking off? Personally, I say no. The people buying fakes probably aren’t the same people with the means to get an allocation at an AD. So no lost sales from the brand’s perspective.
    Some also argue “fake watch, fake person.” Who cares? Someone owning a fake shouldn’t diminish your enjoyment of the real thing.

    That clone is actually quite terrible. It was immediately apparent even in the tiny portrait view on the mobile CZcams app. I agree that the average person on the street who has never held a Nautilus would be fooled from the distance, but let's not pretend it's close. Yes, secondary market Pateks are way too expensive and primary market ones aren't attainable. But the only one you're really fooling with these knock offs are yourself and the customs officers who didn't know to chuck it when it came through. And it isn't hyperbole to say that the factories that make these are supporting terror and human trafficking operations. Feel free to look into that.

    These differences are fairly obvious due to Pateks perfect finishing. Much trickier to spot the fake when it comes to Rolex

    Superreps are meh & still always spottable. The true luxury is the after-hours and other behind-the-curtain pieces - yes, from the same original factories.
