Why do watch collectors love Seiko so much? Sure we love Rolex, OMEGA, Tudor, Cartier. But nothing quite hits like Seiko. I haven't owned a Seiko until recently - the Seiko 5 GMT and now a new Seiko 5 (yay IFL! Thank you!) but even just from getting these I've become a Seiko lover. There is a certain character to their watches.
There are 5 reasons why I think we love Seiko so much: 5. Their undeniable charm. 4. The Japanese innovative approach to watchmaking and just how different they are from European watchmaking. 3. Heritage - even though we always talk about the value proposition of Seiko, they have heritage similar to Audemars Piguet, Breitling and they are even older than Rolex. 2. They have a broad catalogue - there really is something for everyone. 1. And biggest - they over deliver. What you get for the price; the watch that is delivered for a really reasonable price. £500 / $500 isn't cheap. But you get a lot of watch for that price.
This is why I think everyone loves Seiko so much. Did I miss anything big? Why do you love Seiko? Is Seiko overrated? Let me know in the comments.

Seiko can be a beater watch, it can be an everyday watch, it can be a ISO diver watch, it can be a dress watch. Seiko can be for everyone. Also, the most modded watch.
Seiko can be a TV watch and a computer watch, too. Seiko is not only a brand that's an expert watch maker but also a risk taker. And quirky as hell too, but we love it for it!
No matter what kinds of Seiko watches you buy, Seiko watch lasts life time without any problems. That is why I love Seiko watches !!!
My Dad has worn the same one, every day, for 30 years. It’s a quartz, so has had a few battery changes….but still works well and looks smart.
And almost every watchmaker can repair them
I've had a seiko monster 1st gen for 23 years. Never let me down. It still looks great.
I love this! 👏🏻👏🏻
The monster grew on me so much after buying 1. Absolute stunner of a watch! The lume will burn your eyes out too ha ha!
One can spend their life just collecting monsters if not carful😂
My all-time favorite Seiko is the Gen 1 Monster too. Indestructible
Nice! Post a picture of it.
citizen is awfully underrated. my promaster is accurate to within a second per day, which is unbelievable. i'm very lucky tho.
my fugu is the same. i have only had to adjust it for the daylight saving time change. impeccable.
NB-1050 owner here.
I am so happy I bought it instead of the seiko sharp edge.
Better movement and better QC at half the price.
even their entry level 8200 mvt beat Seiko 7s26@@RadicallyGreen
Beat me to it. I've got Royal Marines Super Tough and I love it.
100%. £1000 for a 6R35 movement, getting too cheeky
Do better Seiko
I love the fact that she called out Moe individually, that’s amazing! 😂
I believe Seiko 5 is a watch thats undergone Mitosis every month or so. First you have one, and then suddenly there's at least 5 of them laying around😂
Mitosis !!!😂
I have over 50 vintage Seikos, mostly chronographs, plus several of their modern divers. It’s an amazing producer of important and historical watches.
I'm wearing a Grand Seiko "Katana", a US-only limited edition. Mine is 287/500. Watching the smooth sweep of the second hand is mesmerizing for sure. The Spring Drive accuracy in phenomenal. As for the bracelet, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Yes, there is no micro adjustment, but maybe I got lucky and found the perfect fit after my watchmaker removed the necessary number of links. You could always go with a leather strap if the bracelet isn't to your liking. As a matter of fact, it comes with a strap. The finish on a Grand Seiko is second to none in my opinion.
Seiko and Casio make watches for everyone.
So true! 👏🏻
Japanese love to see their tools/machines worn out and broken from hard use. German and Swiss want you to admire their tools and machines. That’s why Japanese cars run longer. Not because they’re better, they aren’t. But because they’re designed to be used by people who won’t follow instruction manuals perfectly or use their tools/machines in the ideal environment. (Don’t change your oil in your Camery for 30,000kms, it keeps going without issue. Treat your BMW that way and it’s toast first time, every time.
I would include Citizen in that group. Their quartz/mechanical movements are outstanding and dials are just as varied
Watching this wearing my 10 year old, first ever Seiko 5 series watch.
Oh YES! Get in!! Putting my Seiko 5 GMT now because it just feels wrong not wearing a Seiko while replying to these comments!
One thing that I think needs to be said is that even though there’s this narrative that Seiko is price gouging, Long Island Watch recently did a video that pretty succinctly showed that Seiko is still putting out good timepieces for a good price. It’s just that the watches are now coming up to RRP and inflation, but even still, Seiko still tries to put a fair price on their new offerings. “We live in a society”, as they say.
I agree completely! 👏🏻👏🏻
Agreed. I watched that video all along saying the same things. They are absolutely the same and in some ways a better deal.
They already raised prices (without fixing qc issues) before the enormous inflation started. Improvements such as the 6R35 turned out to be less than great. I keep wat I have but moved on to Citizen (JDM) watches and some Bulova watches.
I bought a Seiko 5 Sport for my husband a couple years ago and he absolutely love it . I love your channel by the way . Every time I need to purchase a watch for him I check your videos first . Thanks!😊
Mo said "no" to Seiko whilst discording
Britt said sit and listen you don't know what your missing
"I do", he said the sound on you first recording.
🤣🤣🤣 🤫
I've owned a Seiko quartz for about 35 years. Still going strong, no maintenance, just battery changes.
I really love the design of Seikos, but I've gotta say that their QC has left a lot to be desired in my experience. I received a SRPE61 for my birthday 2 years ago and noticed that there was a literal hair on the dial. Small, but once I saw it, there was no going back. Thankfully I returned it and received a hair-free model.
Yet with the replacement, I realized much too late that the hand winding did not work. Not a big deal when I wore it every day, but now that I have a couple more watches, it's a real hassle.
Would love to try another seiko someday, but I have some trust issues now.
The pain of filming an entire set without audio😭 Great video though, hopefully the second take was way faster!
I started wearing a watch again within the last year. Got a Seiko field watch. My mom noticed it and decided to give me my late father’s old Seiko dress watch. 45 years of mostly daily wear and never serviced.
I’m impressed how well it has lasted. Now I’m wearing it to work.
Must have seikos: samurai, turtle, tuna, and sumo :)
Simply because they are the best and offer the most versatile models ❤.
You know I love love Seiko ❤
I have both the Sharp Edge (red dial) and Cocktail time (Manhattan). Both seriously overperform, look great, and accuracy is well above promised.
You are fantastic!!! Love your channel, so much insight and very down to earth the way you present it. Seiko is an unsung hero that balances both luxury and inexpensive timepieces in a beautiful way. I think you explained it all superlatively. Love the baby bump update too- congrats and I hope all goes well!!! Thanks again!
Seiko has historically been cherished for its exceptional value for money, a reputation it maintained for many years. Consumers grew accustomed to Seiko's reliability and affordability, as well as that Seiko "feel" distinguishing it from other brands. Unlike some brands that tend to repeat their successful models and focus only on refining existing movements without significant technological advancements (looking at Swiss brands), Seiko has consistently demonstrated innovation and occasional quirkiness.
Although Seiko may no longer offer the same unbeatable value for money as it once did, and it has not released an unconventional watch like the TV watch in recent decades, the brand continues to excel in every aspect of horology. From producing affordable quartz movements to advancing high-accuracy quartz technology, Seiko proves itself as master watchmakers, prioritizing horological expertise over mere marketing prowess (looking at Swiss brands again).
If this isn't an AI generated response...
@earthenjadis8199 What gives you that impression? I just get really enthusiastic about horological content and tend to go on about it. My point is that Seiko takes risks and not only innovates but also does some bold, unconventional things from time to time. This approach is quite refreshing and contributes to that unique Seiko feel that so many people love.
Dead Internet theory 🫠@@earthenjadis8199
I recently came back from a six week trip to Japan. I was struck by how many old Seikosha clocks I saw hanging in family homes, clearly left by previous generations, and still happily ticking away.
I got an skx for $200 two years before they got discontinued, and it’s the reason I fell in love with watches. I wish they still made it
I love your introduction on GS, especially Spring Drive. Great video.
Got my first watch a Seiko 5 in 1977 it’s now 2024 it’s never been serviced and still runs and keeps time, fantastic
Seiko need to get with lumed bezels & saphire just to keep up but yeah, Seiko rock & btw you can dive with a Seiko 5
I love my Seiko watches. I even have a few “old ones,” but I love them all.
Great, welcome to the club! Before I got into watches I just had a Seiko Solar SNE056, purchased in 2012 for $103. In January 2024 I replaced the rechargeable battery and it’s still running great. Now, I have 8 Seiko watches in my 15 watch collection. Five of these are vintage. A Laurel made in 1960 and a pocket watch made in 1971, for example. The vintage watches keep better time than my Presage! I have never paid more than $500 for a watch. Seiko! ❤
People: Seiko are cheap watches!
LX, SLA, SJE series: Allow us to introduce ourselves
You paid how much for a Seiko???
@@earthenjadis8199It’s such a flex knowing you could have bought a Rolex but got a Seiko

You can stick your Rolex where the sun don't shine
@@AndySmith4501 That is what my father did for five long years
@@sys-administratorfantastic reference!
LOVE my vintage Seiko! BTW you have excellent fan engagement Brittany. Keep up the good work.
You wear a Seiko and know that amongst the vast array of watches out there - yours is the one where the design and manufacture right down to the smallest piece including jewels is in-house Seiko. That's incredible!
finally we didn't mention Rolex word more than once
I have a Seiko Alpinist Ginza 140th Anniversary SPB259J1. Show me a more beautiful dial. I absolutely love it.
I just bought the same Seiko 5 GMT as you and I love it!🥰
I bought a Seiko Presage “Style60’s” - SRPG05J1 a couple of days ago. I couldn't believe how much better it looked in the real than in the pictures. I really didn't plan to buy a watch that day or anytime soon, but I couldn't walk out of there without it. And I wonder if this isn't about to take the throne as my favourite in my little collection.
I do own a SPB143 Diver, a SPB121 Alpinist and just bought a Seiko 5 SPK87 "SNXS". I love the look of those watches and I don't care if value is not great anymore and QC might be quite random they make me happy
The Seiko company really has everything for every one, from a simple quartz wall clock to a Grand Seiko Tourbillon, or even Credor masterpieces. I mean Hans Waldorf tried to offer more affordable watches by creating Tudor, but no watch company can match Seiko in terms of diversity and technology. And they made everything in house, that’s crazy.
Wow, Morgan like info in this video. I learned lots of new stuff
So true, all of it! I’ve been itching to get a GS, but still coming to terms with the cost. So yesterday I put on my old SARB 033, and fell in love with it all over again, for all the reasons you nicely articulated.
Bought SRPK87. It is a gorgeous wristwatch. I'm falling in love with it. Thanks for you're sharing about seiko.
Yes, the charm on seiko sometimes hard to explain.. Evn scratch on the hardlex glass add more charm and I love it every single time..
Thanks! I will save this, and use it to settle arguments! I could buy a Seiko a day. Currently, I am recovering from a stroke. (I lived. The recovery? A work in progress..) while rehabbing and therapy, I usually change Seikos twice a day.
Seiko and Grand Seiko fan here. Great video.More than half of the pieces i have😊😊
Gotta love Seiko. They're the everyman's watch.
As for their QC, owned a Kinetic Sport 150 back in the day & it was still going strong 17 years later. It was never serviced.
I still own five or six & appreciate them as much as my Rolex & Tudor.
My first mechanical watch was a Seiko SPB155 Alpinist. It’s a great watch!
Great overview. Bang on. And slightly hysterical!!
Wearing a SRPE Seiko 5 “Dress KX” for nearly half a year now-birthday present to myself-and love it, already feels like an old friend. It also tends to run about 5 sec or so fast a day so it keeps me on time 😂
I bought my SKX007 at Iwakuni Marine Air Base in 2004. It’s never been serviced and is still going strong.
Just bought the Seiko 5 GMT blue dial. Love it!
I love Seiko because it’s underdog, everyone assumes it’s cheap mall watch until they see urushi dial. Resonates a lot with my life path so for it always has been Seiko and Orient
I still wear my Seiko 5 21jewels from 1997, not a single scratch on the crystal. Never stopped working. Still going fine.
It's hard to resist Seiko, as much as I try. I now have 4, including a vintage 6138-0030 automatic chronograph. 3 of them were picked up AFTER I got my Explorer II, so going high has not ruined my love for the brand.
I have two old Seiko 5 from 80’s. Never been serviced but still run. I have a 76 Seiko Bullhead Black Horse. A Samurai Save the Ocean special edition, plus a Willard Save The Ocean Glacier special edition. Brilliant
Love em all. Great watches.
I have the Seiko Presage and the Seiko 5. Both super reliable, cohesive, goes well with everything at an affordable price. I can’t wait for my seiko tank!
You have the best CZcams channel. Love all of your content.
Nice upload Britt! Don’t forget the prospex line of divers! Samurai, turtle etc. king turtle with ceramic bezel is one of the best values they make. Got mine for 350 a few years ago retail was 600
I love Seiko. I’ve got a cocktail time power reserve SSA393J1 and I love it. The dial is spectacular.
Brought Alpinist SPB117J1 recently... really happy with it. Keeps excellent time, wears great on the wrist plus got it at a 25% discount. Have had more expensive watches and never quite bonded with them... learned the hard way that luxury watches arn't really my thing after all. Mind you, if the Tudor Pelagos 39 had a date then I would reconsider.
Seiko produces excellent watches. I particularly admire my Seiko LX titanium spring drive. No Swiss watches can match the smooth sweeping hand of the spring drive movement. I have owned mine for four years, and it still functions flawlessly. Additionally, I appreciate your informative video about Seiko watches.😊
living in SE Asia, seiko is defo the epitome of affordable watches. be it wrist watch, wall clock, table clock, seiko is everywhere! growing up, I never pay attention to seiko, like why are they so popular. until a few years ago I started to get interested in wrist watch and wanna buy a real wrist watch for myself. surprisingly, seiko is the first brand I look at 😂 somehow the design is very non nonsense. it's sophisticated, clean and just my vibe?? you can choose anything from their catalogue and you'll find yours. right now I have two seiko wrist watches and adore them both! their antiques line such as exceline and spirit just gorgeous. I'm not sure if they still sell it but somehow I always found in 2nd hand market. but yeah overall they're great ❤
My first watch was a Seiko 7T92-0LT0 chronograph. I never cared about watches until the past 4-6 months when I saw a Patek on a guy’s wrist, and I’ve loved them ever since. Obviously some of the more popular or new Seikos can get expensive, but you definitely get a reliable and accurate watch. Plus I like for some lower on the price end watches that use a their NH35/36 movement, you can just buy another one instead of getting it fixed. I get some of the complaints if you truly have an eye for higher end watches, but for me they’re perfect.
I think the great thing about Seiko is that any bad cheap watch has a superior Seiko someone can upgrade to. For example, a cheap gold watch can be upgraded to a Presage Half and Half or Beer Julep.
I LOVE SEIKO! Have around 40+ pieces starting from the 1960 going all trough the decades - they are just amazing unique watches!
New collector here and I just bought a Series 5 as my first mechanical watch. Paid around $200. Very pleased so far. For the money, it sure seems like a good value
The SKX007J was my first automatic watch and I still wear it all the time! Along with three Seiko SARBs. I still love Seiko, they're great
Everyone is talking about Seiko and Citizen, but I believe Orient is the most underrated in this category.
I own a Seiko presage snr037 with spring drive. It is my daily watch and I love it. It is the perfect match between classic and innovation
I have a Marinemaster 300, it’s a beast, absolutely love it.
I’d love one, I modified my Sumo to look like a MM300
Could u leave a link to where we can find a full seiko catalog I can find limited watches on line loving ur work Britt
i love you so much! I recently just found your mamacoo and i’m in love!! Your videos are so fun and you energy is just MWAH! keep living your life
I love Seiko for their design, reliability and incredible value for the money ! And also the variety of movements, quartz/ solar/ kinetic / and of course their automatic movement. You should definitely get a Willard or a 62Mas !!
I have a Seiko Prospex Alpinist Deep Lake, lovely design with a fabulous dial. Typically wayward 6R accuracy but I love it all the same.
I'm mostly with your friend Mo. I have several Seikos and don't like wearing them because of what the brand had become: overpriced with inconsistent but lacking quality control. That's not charming or rare. It's common and a real problem. The only Seiko I'm interested in now is the Alpinist GMT with green dial.
Grand Seiko, yes, awesome! But they ain't $1,000 either.
Tell Mo to get a Bulova Jet Star or Super Seville. Or a 7S26 SNXS with upgraded bracelet/strap. 👍🏼
Britt's videos are always magic cause her personality just shines 🌞. Definitely my favourite watch channel on CZcams ❤
I don’t understand how someone could ask for a recommendation around £500 and then when you give them a great answer they say “aren’t Seiko’s cheap”. It seems like this friend is looking for something with more brand cache, but for most “muggles” that is Rolex and I’m not sure what else.
My first Seiko was a Seiko 5 automatic on a blue faux nato strap 10 years ago. It cost $60 on Amazon. I checked the same model now. $220. Glad I got in in the basement
Seiko owner since the early 80s and I concur with every word you've said!
Although today I'm wearing my Sub, my first watch I purchased with my own money was Seiko 5 back in 1969. Since then I have added few more Seiko's to my collection. They're practically bullet proof although accuracy is suspect at times. One of my favorites is the SKX 007 and probably with worst accuracy. By the way, I still own that very first Seiko 5.
there is a piece in Seiko for each everyone out there. Price point, value, heritage and, robust!
The seiko prospex alpinist 1959 is one of the best watches, especially at the price point that I've had. Especially if you can get your hands on the more limited edition dials like the ginzo. That's not even necessary, though. The blue dial is amazing, too.
I feel like we just became best friends. Both because of a mutual love of watches and an obsession with submarines. 😁 I love Seiko too, thank you for teaching me more about their heritage.
I fall into the “doesn’t love Seiko” camp. I recently bought one, and it’s easily the worst experience I’ve ever had with a watch.
I bought an Arnie, and it doesn’t work. Factory resets when exposed to light. Kind of a big deal for a solar watch. Sent it into Seiko to have them fix it (paid shipping on my own dime), and got it back after about a month. I crack it open, take it outside, and it resets again. Apparently it’s an issue endemic to the 2023/24 Arnies.
Horrible QC, and bad CS. It’s killed any desire for me to purchase from the brand again into the future. Casio was already getting my money, but now they’ve assured my loyalty.
Well I have 5 Seikos and they’re all perfect 🤷🏼♂️ if you want solar buy Casio or Citizen, seiko you buy automatic, don’t waste your time on quartz. Hope you give them another shot.
@@Matt-mh5us I personally think that answer is a cop out. The Arnie is an iconic watch, and one that I wanted to try. As my first Seiko, this experience was so poor that it will certainly be my last Seiko.
Hey Britt!
Another microbrand you might be interested in: Venezianico. They have great dive watches. And! And! They are named after an Italian submarine: Nereide 😊 (submarine on the caseback!)
I do not have one, but probably will.
Have you done a video on the Seiko Coutura? Been wondering your thoughts on this range.
My Seiko is a 1971 “Pogue”. Owned since new,. I can’t wear it without someone commenting. I’d love a photo of it on Brittany’s wrist.
I have a king turtle that has taken a beating as it's my work watch I doubt any of the luxury brands would last or do better in those conditions and that's why I love seiko they are great value and reliable while offering tons of options
I love Seiko. I just ordered the new SRPK87 from Japan. Cheaper than in store and it has an english/kanji day wheel to boot. So Seiko #8 is on the way
Seiko presage mojito has one of the best green dial i ve ever seen in every range of price ; incredible value
Loved you making case for Seiko. I grew up with Seiko watches and love them ...
It was in every man and woman wrists in the 70's...the women autos are more intriguing for being so little and tiny ....imagine putting together those movements.
I still have my dad’s old Seiko vintage day date. My dad got it back in like 1995. Unfortunately it doesn’t work anymore so I need to get the movement fixed.
Taking the Powermatic 80 in mind, I consider contemporary Seiko offerings unappealing or not as appealing as a decade ago. Love your videos; thought provoking.
Hi from Seattle thats a nice one!
I’ve owned many Seikos, mainly sla and sje but a few spb. All have over delivered on design, quality and accuracy compared to Swiss alternatives. A lot of the old Seiko fans with negatively don’t understand the difference between a 6l and 6r movement. Also the non cosc standard accuracy tolerances have people up in arms.
I just got myself a Seiko Land Tortoise. I was comparing it with the Tissot PRX, but considering the value it offers, it wasn't hard for me to pick the Seiko.
I love Seiko. But you've got to move really up the price ladder before you start getting premium specs.
love the liitle shout out to the Seiko SRPG35, it's my daily wear. feel it's an 'under the radar' type of choice because the SRPE dressKX's get all the Seiko 5 attention.
Hi Brit. Please could you review the SLA models to show what Seiko can really do against some of the brands people consider’luxury’. SLA043 or SLA055 for example.
I love Seiko watches because Seiko watches give me the opportunity to customize my watches.
I now have 6 self-made watches with a Seiko movement.
Although Seiko claims a large rate deviation, even the worst movement I received had less than 20 seconds of rate deviation.
The simple movements from Seiko will never achieve the rate accuracy (in various positions, as required by Swiss and German standards) of a high-quality watch, but because I regulate my watches first on a timing scale and then again when I wear the watch, I achieve a rate deviation of less than 7 seconds per day in practice. I demagnetize my watches before and after regulating them.
One of my watches with a GMT movement has been running for 4 months with a rate deviation of +2 seconds per week!
I have every reason to be happy and that is also one of the reasons why I am enthusiastic about Seiko.
There is a comparatively large community of Seikomodders.
My self-made watches are rarer than most "luxury watches" (in the age of smartphones, watches are completely superfluous, which is why every watch becomes a "luxury watch") and in practice need not fear comparison with much more expensive watches in terms of accuracy.
By the way:
Seiko's simple movements are manufactured by 100% Seiko subsidiaries in Asia. From there, the movements are shipped to Japan, fitted with a rotor (the self-winding mechanism of self-winding movements is correctly called an oscillating weight) and re-regulated. The tolerances in Japan are considerably smaller than those that Seiko Japan allows the other factories in Asia (-20 to + 40 seconds/day).
As far as I know, we are talking about tolerances of -15 to +30 seconds/day.
At least that is what the factory management in Japan stipulates for production.
My information and my original Seiko watches are at least 2 years old and I hope that Seiko still re-regulates the movements after installation in the case.
People can hate Seiko as much as they want (especially on issues like pricing and QC nowadays), but, no matter what, you'll never go wrong with a Seiko (and same goes with a Casio, Citizen, Orient --the Big 4 of Japanese timepieces). Loved by Muggles and watchnerds alike, especially in Asia. Heck, there are even 'Seiko communities' from where I came from. And there is one video I saw where a Thai guy collecting Seiko Monster only and try to get his hands on every variants 😂.
Lovely video as always Britt, big fan from Indonesia. 🎉
