  • You’ve heard us say many times that PHEVs- plug-in hybrid electrics- rather than BEVs- pure battery electrics- are a sound choice for many folks thinking about owning an electric vehicle. Well, buyers do seem to have gotten the message, as while recent sales of all-electric BEVs are down, PHEVs are suddenly skyrocketing. So, we thought we’d give you a close look at the range of PHEVs that are available today.

I own both a EV for just short commute around town and a PHEV for long distance. Both are Toyotas. I do prefer driving my EV as a daily driver, nothing like it vs engine providing power, just not as linear and instant torque without any drama.

We bought a "leftover" 2022 Jeep Summit 4xe in late 2023. With the tax credit and markdowns, it was less than a new conventional 2023 Jeep Grand Chrokee Limited and gets better mileage and way more HP when needed.

When did conventional wisdom in automotive manufacturing go from fewer parts is cheaper to as many as possible? It just seems like automakers are actually trying to make cars more complex.

Available my foot. Manufacturers have been asleep at the wheel with PHEVs, completely blind to market demand.
I'm in the market for one, and every dealership I've visited flat-out tells me they only get a few PHEVs in stock any given year, and are usually snapped up immediately with essentially a bidding war.
However these same dealerships generally have a notable amount of unsold BEVs... that market was massively overestimated and totally saturated now.
C'mon manufacturers, get your butts in gear and ramp up production of the PHEVs!

I'm sorry but he is right. EVs are simply a niche market. PHEVs will work better for mainstream buyers. Personally, I prefer standard hybrids. There is nothing to plug in. That works for me.

From a safety standpoint, EV’s are not the way to go. Having two choices of power is better than one. Hybrids are the way to go. Personally I would never buy an EV made by a petulant crybaby billionaire.
