The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 onward. The Impala is Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and is generally among the better selling American made automobiles in the United States.[4][5]For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-size model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8-powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan. In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car.[6] As of February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked #1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings.[7] When the tenth generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the ninth generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The current-generation Impala is also sold in the Middle East, China, and South Korea.
In 1965, Chevrolet introduced a new luxury package for the Impala four-door hardtop, called "Caprice" and coded as RPO Z18. Caprices received tufted upholstery, wood grained accents on the dashboard and specialty pulls on the insides of the doors. This "halo" model also featured the "spinner" wheel covers from the Impala SS, with the "SS" logo centers replaced by a Chevrolet "bowtie" emblem. The Super Sport's blackout rear trim strip below the triple taillights was also used, with the "Impala SS" emblem replaced by a large "Caprice by Chevrolet" badge. The Impala block lettering on each front fender was replaced with "Caprice" script. The Caprice package was reintroduced as the Chevrolet Caprice Custom in 1966, taking the top position in the full-size Chevrolet lineup.Engine choices included the inline six-cylinder as well as the small-block and big-block V8s. A new three-range Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was optional for 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8. The old 409 cu in (6.7 L) "W" engine was discontinued early in the 1965 model year, so early-production 1965s got the 409, as well as 1/10 of 1% had the 396 CID big-block. Other later-built cars had the 396 cu in (6.5 L) as the big-block option. Two-speed Powerglide, as well as 3- and 4-speed manual transmissions were available. As with previous years, Impalas featured more chrome trim inside and out, with pleated tufted upholstery and door panels. The Impala would be the #2-selling convertible in the US in 1966, with 38,000 sold; it was beaten by the Mustang by almost 2:1.[22] 1966 saw a pair of enlarged big-block V8s featuring 427 cu in (7.0 L). The RPO L36 was rated at 385 hp (287 kW), the L72 at 425 hp (317 kW). The L72 was only available with a manual transmission.
The 1966 Impala SS was facelifted with a revised grille and new rectangular taillights that replaced the triple round units. A chrome beltline strip shared with regular Impalas was added in response to complaints about door dings on the clean-lined 1965s. Inside were new "Strato-bucket" front seats with thinner and higher seat backs, and a center console with an optional gauge package available. Sales of the 1966 Impala SS dropped by more than 50% to around 117,000 units; this was mainly due to the sport/performance car market switching from full-sized models to intermediates (including Chevrolet's own Chevelle SS396 and Pontiac GTO), along with the emerging market for the even smaller pony car market created by the Ford Mustang in 1964 that Chevrolet would respond to with the Camaro for 1967. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Ahhh 1966, the year my Uncle decided I needed to begin my trip through the jungle. But I do remember this Chevy (neighbor's new car) as the last new car I saw for several years (magazines, yea). What a memory flogger. Your detailing is superb as are your choice of options - spot on. Skinny whitewalls were a real status symbol for a while, as were FULL hubcaps not them "dog dishes".
Thank you, once again for sharing...
Thanks for your service from one who wasn't able too. much appreciated
Thank you!

I bought this model primarily because it’s a 66, my birth year. I have a few ideas about a low rider paint job. I have a few kits ahead of this one but it looks like a fun kit to build up.
Great build. The classics are so cool to see.
Thank you!

Nice to meet you. Comment from Japan. I love American cars. I made some, but I couldn't make them so beautiful. It’s the best finish. 😊 I'll let you see it 😀
Beautifully done! Love the mid to late 60's Impalas!
Thank you!

Another Impala for my collection. 65-67 Impalas are some of my favorite cars.
Thank you!

Nice,, it's about time a model company release a 66 Impala kit, and Revell is doing a good job releasing model kits never before issued.
Thank you!

Wow, that's beautiful. I have the '61 and '64 Impalas on my "to build" shelf....I'm getting this one soon as well.
Excellent job and huge amount of detail. When I was a boy I liked model car building but I was young and inexperienced. If I ever decide to go back to it I will go all out.
Thank you!

that's more in my line, classic cars. this was another masterpiece chris, always looking forward to the next reviews and builds!

How to keep the decals on model car kits
Love the blue on this, even if it didn't come out the way you wanted - I love it. Another fun build.
Thank you!

I'm amazed to see women make (and be interested in) model kits.
The 66 Impala SS 396 in one of my favorite rides. They look awesome in a bright flame red. I wish this kit came with a set of GM rally wheels
Awesome job!! I just want to thank you for all your great videos. You got me back into building after about 15 years off. Your tips are great and you're an awesome teacher of the hobby.
Thank you!

Great job man! I remember when I was about 7 my grandpa bought a new impala in 1966 and he took me my brother and my grandma to the Beach that summer for vacation

My first car in 1973....but in convertible version. Loved it!
Beautiful and stunning kit. Super details - one of the best from Revell.
Well done Chris! It looks pretty good.

This car is absolutely beautiful
Wow im glad they came back out with this 66 i have the 65 great job i love it.
Thank you!

Wow ! Chris, this is definitely the best Chevy Impala model I have ever seen anybody do. You painted it my favorite color. If I bought this kit, I would probably paint it blue as well. I use to build Lowrider bicycles and I joined a small Lowrider car club that wanted a Lowrider bicycle chapter. And I was cruising it one day when a large Hispanic man was in his front yard and he flagged me down because he wanted to look at my bicycle. He had a 66 Chevy Impala Lowrider parked in his front yard. It was blue as well. Then he introduced me to his younger brother who showed me his 64 Impala he was restoring. I will admit at first I was a little afraid of these guys because they looked tough and mean but they were really cool to me and invited me to come back to their house for dinner. Great job. I love your channel ! Keep up the good work !
Thanks for watching!

Hi absully beautifull work!!
My Uncle (Dad’s younger brother) bought a four door hardtop Impala new in ‘66. I remember it as a kid as I was five-six years old at the time. It was I think the first new car I can remember seeing.......mostly finned stuff our family had around that time I was seeing.
Beautiful job on that one Chris! I had the ‘65 Chevy convertible kit, sold it, now I want another one! GM styling was at its best during those years.......not an ugly one in the bunch! 👍
Thank you!

Local hobby shop had one but it's gone now. I truly believe your videos sell alot of kits cause people see all the cool stuff in it. Got my jagermeister porshe ordered thru local hobby shop. Meanwhile I am working on the revell special edition 1949 mercury with a chopped top. Another sweet kit!!
Keep em coming man!!
Enjoy!
Great build !! I miss my '66, it was my first new car and I had it until 10 years ago when it was stolen and wound up in a "chop shop". Of course insurance did not cover the true value of the car. Brand new I bought it for $3,400 fully loaded. Mine was Marina Blue.
I can't wait to get this kit thanks for the video Chris nice job sir
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Another spectacular build! Awesome Job Chris!!!
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
That turned out beautiful mate, very well done !!
Thanks Gary!
An SS 396 factory 4 speed with factory power steering and brakes AND A/C!!! In real life that is a very low production build configuration that would come close to 6 figures at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson!! I absolutely love it, great build!
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Love the fan belt assembly. If you were going to build it as a street performance car i personally would have painted the diff cover chrome. Alot of guys back in the day would upgrade rear end and use a chrome diff cover and chrome valve covers. Great build.
I built the original kit and the parts fit and the detail is great. Mine was the Monogram version and listed as a 65. The Foose kit is a 65 also. Not sure of minor differences in 65 to 66. Another great build by the Happy Guy!
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Really super clean and neat build Chris! Excellent color choices and killer detailing! !
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Chris, that was one awesome '66 Impala! Love that Regal Blue and the interior detail was fantastic! Keep it up Sir!
Thank you!

My parents had a 1968 Impala, 4 doors, that's what I learned to drive in, and what I took my driving test in. Love the Impala.
Nice build; I think the blue paint has come out pretty good - even though it wasn't what you'd intended. Great finish as usual. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to what's next.
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Turns out they had one after all. Actually picked one one up and unboxed it. This is super sweet kit...fit and finish appears to be great. Guys who are into the old iron or old Impala super sports should give this kit a shot. The lowrider spoker rims look great as well as the whitewall tires. Like you said...could build it a lot of ways. Or go crazy with bare metal or Molotov marker. Or go totally lowrider mode and candy or pearl paints. Very cool kit that's as easy to build as you want it to be or you can go over the top nuts and super detail it. Buy one and build it YOUR way!
Thanks dude!
Much appreciated!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Nice build! As a GM guy, the 66 sport coupe has always been one of my favorite body styles for the Imp. Personally, I'd do it black on black, but, it's your build. I'm almost finished with my build combining two Revell 78 GMC plow trucks into one truck with an 8' bed. Next up will be brazing a car trailer together out of brass tubing for it to "pull". The trailer will also have stained/weathered scale wood for the deck. The "barn find" Camaro that will ride on the trailer is finished and collecting dust in the garage. When the trailer is finished, I'll hit the Camaro, dust and all, with a flat clear, then chain it down on the trailer. Mating the two truck kits to make one with an 8' bed has definitely been a challenge, but, it's also been a lot of fun. I can't wait to find out how challenging the trailer will be!
Thank you!

It is not a car......, a scale model........ it is a candy on four wheels!. Of course, my pet one is that green dump truck you've built. Thanks Chris for this incredible model.
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Stunning build chris
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Great looking kit and build Chris, I really like the older cars they have so much more character than the new models.
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Nice job. Reminds me of the one my mom drove back in the 80's. Her's was blue in and out. this will be my next kit
Thanks for the nice words and for watching!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
The first review I saw of this kit I wasn't impressed with it. But now that I see it built up, it looks like a nice kit. Another great job Chris.
Thank you Shannon!

Great build Chris. The blue is perfect, one of my preferred colors.
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
This came looking Good. That Blue is perfect for that year model. The interior is good with the two paint schemes. Nice job.
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
FYI, the back seat trim that you have refered to is the rear seat speaker grill assy.
Thanks!
Super job. You make it look so easy .
Thank you! Cheers!
U should review the revell 1959 impala lowrider next

I went and bought some of that 2x paint and I have to say, it looks better than some of the airbrush painting. Thanks pal
Thank you!

Great job as always. Go Chris~
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Very nice job on a classic my dad once owned!!!
I can recommend 'Dr. Drybooth' by MicroMark. A very nice compact booth to accelerate the drying time of plastic models!!!
Recently while painting a tractor trailer for a client I purchased this booth and it really speeds up the assembly time and really
bakes the paint onto the model.......... just a suggestion.
I'm sure there are a number of ways to accelerate the drying time of a plastic model but this worked the best for me in my current living situation....
That's nice but crazy expensive.
I've seen people modify food dehydrators which is all Micro Mark does (relabeled food dehydrator) and then increase the price three times over.
Thanks for watching!

Nice kit , sweet build Chris and , I visited you FB page & liked ,,, Thanks for Sharing
Thank you!
Great review Chris. The 66 Impala came out real nice.
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
I have been looking to find a 66 impala model for ages. Look s good thanks
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
I think one time I suggested you get an airbrush, but in retrospect, I think it's great you show people what can be done with a simple rattle can!
I have multiple airbrushes and use them as needed.
Spray cans are faster and more fun. Less cleaning, more building. :)
Thanks so much for sharing your tips with us I have improved so much with my clear windows do to your tip with modge podge that again for sharing the impala turned out great.
Hello, again. I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your Vids. I have looked at other guys who kind of do the same thing. I enjoy you best. I have noticed that the newest releases have printed tiers. I have some of the same kits from a few years ago. Mine are older and they do not have the printed tires or extra tires. Even the decals have dash decals that the older ones don't. Makes me want to sell them and buy the newer ones, LOL. Thank you for this review and build. I really enjoyed it. I've been looking at your Vids for a while now. I've seen all of them. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot for the nice words!

Nice job and a great review. Chevy SS interiors in the 60s were always monochromatic except for carpets on white interiors.
Thank you!

Hey Chris, you should do a tutorial on doing dashboard detailing with your silver pen, would be very interesting to watch you do that! I am sure many that watch your channel would appreciate it!
It's in dozens of different videos, you'll come across it as you watch more. Take care!
Looks beautiful!

It's such a select thing, model making. I used to love it, still do,but don't have time now! Model shops seem to be disappearing in Britain.Todays kids don't make things, they press buttons.

I grew up riding in a 65 Chevy Impala. My mom traded in a 55 Chevy for it. Now I have a 55 Chevy and want a 65 as well.
Maaaaaan....I wish that they'd release a '62 Dodge and Plymouth, so that I can build some factory sponsored 1/4 mile warriors!!
Fantastic review and build Chris, as always!! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻

That is slick as a snail's bottom. We have a diecast model bought from that impulse buy rack of cars at one of the drugstores.
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Looks really nice
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
That trim in the back seat was a speaker general motors cars some ford and Chrysler cars had that
This model kit reminds me of the '66 Impala that was on the movie Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. At the beginning, Peter Fonda drove a blue '66 Impala before he switched to a '69 Dodge Charger R/T.
Cool!
The chrome trim in the back seat is a speaker.
learned a lot more great techniques, great build. Take care
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Hey Chris, awesome build as usual......never a big Impala car guy but I will say, I do like the stock look of this car........so so many of these cars are done in that "low-rider" look with I personally despise......be well Mr. Chris.
If I end up getting one I'd add a set of after market rims and not do the low rider just go with the next day edition other than that it would be like factory
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Like the details of the hubcaps
Thank you!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Very nice build, I just ordered this kit it will be perfect for my Dirty Mary Crazy Larry build with the 69 Charger and the two door 66 Impala SS. The street burner version of the 66 Impala is a 4 door not what was used in the movie.....................................................................Ken
Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving!
