Supernatural is an American dark fantasy television series created by Eric Kripke. It was first broadcast on September 13, 2005, on The WB, and subsequently became part of successor The CW's lineup. Starring Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, the series follows the two brothers as they hunt demons, ghosts, monsters, and other supernatural beings. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision. Along with Kripke, executive producers have been McG, Robert Singer, Phil Sgriccia, Sera Gamble, Jeremy Carver, John Shiban, Ben Edlund and Adam Glass. Former executive producer and director Kim Manners died of lung cancer during production of the fourth season.
The series is filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally, Kripke planned the series for three seasons but later expanded it to five. The fifth season concluded the series' main storyline, and Kripke departed the series as showrunner.[4] The series has continued on for several more seasons with new showrunners, including Sera Gamble, Jeremy Carver, Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb.[5] With its eleventh season, Supernatural became the longest-running American live-action fantasy TV series.
Throughout the series, Dean drives a black 1967 Chevrolet Impala which he refers to as "Baby." Having been passed down to him by his father (John), it is Dean's most prized possession, with actor Jensen Ackles feeling it is Dean's "life" and "sanctuary".[167] The brothers travel in it throughout the country as they hunt the supernatural, and the trunk holds various weaponry and their fake IDs. In the first two seasons, it has a Kansas license plate with the number KAZ 2Y5, a reference to the Winchesters' home state of Kansas, and the series premiere date of 2005.[167] Towards the end of the second season, the car sports a new Ohio license plate (CNK 80Q3) to aid the brothers in hiding from the FBI.[168]
The origins of the Impala were first depicted in the comic mini-series Supernatural: Origins, in which John Winchester takes ownership of the car from Mary's uncle after accidentally getting him killed during a hunt. However, fans responded negatively to this, as John is shown with the Impala in the teaser for the pilot episode, which is chronologically set before the comic series. Because of this, the comic was altered for the trade paperback version,[169] with the Impala's true origins later being depicted in the series' fourth season. Having been sent back to 1973 by the angel Castiel, Dean convinces his father to purchase the Impala over a 1964 VW Van. The car's origins were further explored during the season five finale, in which a frame story surrounded the plot of the episode tracking the Impala's history from its manufacture, through several previous owners, up until the present day. According to Chuck Shurley, the brothers have "made it their own", and they are shown as kids sticking an army man into an ash tray that remains there (Sam), putting blocks into the heating vents (Dean) and carving their initials into the car. The Impala later proves important when seeing the old army man allows Sam to overpower Lucifer during the final confrontation. According to Chuck, as they have the Impala, the Winchesters never consider themselves truly homeless. In the seventh season, after two Leviathans go on a killing spree in an identical Impala, Sam and Dean are forced to put the car into storage and use various other cars as they are too identifiable with the Impala. Dean later pulls it out of storage to confront Dick and has the demon Meg crash it into Sucrocorp to create a distraction. Starting in season 8, Sam and Dean are once again using the Impala as their car. The Impala was stolen by the angel Gadreel while possessing Sam, once again forcing Dean to use a stolen car, but it was quickly recovered and proved instrumental in tracking down the rogue angel.
All of the cars used in the show are stock 1967 Chevrolet Impala four door hardtops. They feature Chevrolet small-block engines, recolored interiors, custom seats, and nonfunctioning radios. Other than the one used in the original, all of the Impalas had to be painted black for the series. One of the Impalas used features a detachable roof and doors for up-close shots, and is capable of being separated in half.

Hi Chris, I've been having a great fun afternoon today building one of my 2 Supernatural Impala kits while watching your Supernatural video. It will be a gift for my daughter who is a huge Supernatural fan. She has no clue it will be in the mail to her. Couldn't resist sharing with you.

I really REALLY wish that more kits came with the separate frame for those vehicles that actually had them and weren't unibody. It just makes for a much nicer and more detailed model when finished.

I have learned soo many techniques from watching your videos for a couple years now. 1 of the biggest that had made things much easier is using craft paints instead of enamels all the time because the craft paints are soo much easier to clean up and faster jumping from 1 paint to the next. Thank you Thank you

As a child we lived 1/4 mile from a junk yard. One Sunday evening we took a hood from the junkyard to use as a sled no we didn't ask permission first the next morning the junkyard owner found our footprints in the snow he followed them the whole way to our house. We got in some trouble with our parents for taking the hood. hell we were only around 10 years old. Once the owner found out we were just kids he didn't care he hooked the hood to his 4 wheeler pulled us all over the place. Playing hide and seek in a junkyard is awesome as a child.

An excellent model that was a long time coming. You did a superb job building it! About the only thing that I could wish is that they would have included some 'accessories' to dress-up the model; say an in-scale Colt revolver or the First Blade. (Hopefully, these - as well as figures of Sam and Dean - will be available, aftermarket.) Thanks for posting this!

Chris, You mentioned in the video that the rear seat was a "new tool'. In actuality, the front seat is the "new tool" and it doesn't match the "original" two door SS kit. In addition, the transmission in the 1:1 car was an automatic not a manual as depicted in the kit. I realize that this isn't any of your fault and R2 should have paid more attention to these minor details. I just opened my kit and discovered that it was missing the front seat entirely. Your build of this kit turned out super! Thanks for doing this review.

Nice car. Supernatural is a good show. This Impala is like the Batmobile. Or Knight Rider. I love show themed vehicles. I would love the Jeep pickup from "Tremors" as a kit too. Chevy hit the mark with their Impala's. I had higher hopes for the grill but, it is what it is. A must have kit for the tv show collector. Should be a big seller.

That would be cool! I adore Tremors and a Val&Earl truck would rock!

Lovely build, Chris! When I saw the pictures on Facebook, I thought this model had those old school chrome reverse steel wheels. I think they would look on this car as well.

I think that your next review build is the AMT Dodge Viper GTS COUP kit #8055. It has 1 of the most amazing detailed parts and has a ton of parts. It is an absolutely beautiful kit.

  • @paulleonardwhiffen5494

Another great build Chris , I just priced this kit from The US to the UK and it runs at nearly $75 which kinda makes it to costly so I'm glad you build them so I can see them built up keep em coming

Hello from the west coast of Canada , I've been watching and really enjoying your reviews I went and bought myself four kits three AMT one Revell all Fords AMT 40 Ford coupe , AMT 34 Ford pickup , AMT 41 Ford custom woody wagon and a Revell 48 Ford police coupe , Í 'm very impressed by your building skills especially when you weather and distress the finish on your builds , I'm in my sixties and I'm an artist and I am exited to try out some weathering techniques on my builds , I had the 34 Ford pickup kit when I was young , this is a great trip down memory lane , great stuff !
