I have been on a whole plant based diet for 43 years after being diagnosed with cancer. I did try keto and couldn't function.
My diet is a wide variety of whole plant foods including
      Greens
      Nuts and seeds
      Whole grains and
      Roots vegetables.
Good sources of fats and oils
      Coconut oil
      Olive oil
      Grass fed butter
Raw fresh ground flaxseed and pumpkin seed.
No refined or chemically sprayed food.
I do eat raw honey and maple syrup.
No red meat and no dairy other than butter. Most meal contain something raw.
      Today everything was raw.
      Breakfast
Organic rolled oats soaked over night with a mixture of fruit butter and freshly ground flaxseed. All raw.
Lunch green salad with olive oil.
Super. A mixture of raw veggies including avocado and olive oil for dietary fat.
      Tomorrow will be grain based.
Pancakes with organics whole wheat floor and oats with lots of butter. Maple syrup and raw honey and raw fruit.
Later pea soup or bean soup. With lots of veggies. Add coconut oil to the soup.
I just continue to mix it up.
      In the summer. More greens.
      Winter more roots vegetables.
I like baked yams once or twice a week.
      I don't follow a schedule.
I have seen major fat burn with this diet when a proper exercise program is incorporated.

I have been able to easily maintain a whole food, plant diet for almost four years now. But I do live alone and am retired. I wanted to try it sooner in life, but I lived with family members and I had to eat lunch at work and no lunchroom to store it, which left very little choices where I worked. I probably could not have done it if I still had to work and live around other family members who I taught to eat like the devil. But I want to say for those brave sick souls out there...if you try it for a week or two, you absolutely will feel the difference. If you take meds...you may want to check with a Dr. because you won't keep needing them after you eat healthy the way the good Lord intended.

Well, Covid came along with obesity as a comobility. I started with Keto (bought a George Foreman grill, meat thermometers, sauces, etc) but after a few weeks of documentaries and Dr. Gregor, etc., I went WFPB. Lost 75 pounds in less than a year, eat like a pig (ONLY plants and non-processed food) in a 6 hour window. Never count calories and 1 year later I weigh exactly the same (10 pounds less than at graduation) No meds, BP 115/70, walking only exercise, will start weight training next month. My eyesight has improved. Eye doctor says it is because of the inflammation reduction (now at .6) My gums no longer bleed. I could keep on. Best thing that has happened to me in my life.

while I am sure some people cant do the gluten thing, I havent bought into it. I think the "roundup, glyophosphate" is why people cant handle bread, wheat. People have been eating grains for centuries..its unnatural not to. Eat the greens, sure, but not exclusively!

    • @TheMillionDollarDropout

But you realize on a grand time scale, centuries of eating carbs thanks to agriculture isn’t really enough to morph our bodies to handle this as well as we obviously handle meat, right?

Maybe yours can cuz you eat it and have the microbiome to be able to digest it. I have not eaten meat for 51 years. I have zero plans to ever eat it again. Its not obvious to me that people handle eating meats. It is however obvious that it causes intestinal issues, cancer, clogged arteries,, etc. Any toxin that the animal had in it, is concentrated in its flesh.. I want no part of that.. many people got off the "carb" wagon a while ago. I never got on it. I dont eat a lot of grain.. a loaf of bread will be in my fridge for a month or more..

Exactly! My Mexican genes have struggled with handling sugar practically since I came out of the womb so it’s horrible that I for a very brief (thankfully) time, I became infatuated with this diet, all thanks to this doctor guy and a fitness influencer on CZcams named high carb Hannah, but one thing I noticed right away is it to high carb Hannah girl, lost a lot of weight on a high carbohydrate based diet, which is good yeah, but she had no black marks around her neck or under her arms so it’s quite obvious that her body can handle carbs, (she ate lots of pasta and bread last I remember)
In the world with diabetes and people with lots of black marks around their neck I think it’s way more likely that they’re not gonna do well on a carb starch-based diet versus something like keto. There’s a reason why I felt so lethargic at times after a meal consisting halfway of carbs like potatoes, mashed potatoes, rice, etc. my body does not get along with the sugars to that level at least. Maybe my plate is supposed to be 75% me 25% carb/vegetable. I don’t know but recently, I’ve been playing around with a ratio, and I feel pretty good all around but soon I’ll be embarking on my own CARNIVORE based diet but I have a feeling in the end I will mainly be sticking to 90% carnivore and 10% fruits with a very specific fruits like coconut pineapple etc maybe. I’m gonna have to find out which of the lowest oxalate containing fruits. I’ve always had a thing for watermelon, coconut, pineapple, honeydew etc. these are just so amazing and I feel like I should listen to my body. I have these from time to time, especially in season one boy am I glad I never got completely sucked into this starch, vegan type of diet. It’s also just really hard to even stay on it because the meals get so bland and boring and carboard-y or you end up having to pull magic rabbits out of a hat to make it taste good. I remember my favorite meal was a meal that used Alfredo pasta and blended up cashews in order to make a cashew-based vegan cream and it was so amazing but that just shows me how much my body prefers high fat but getting that fat from cashews is horrible because of the actual oxalate content in that shit not to mention the calories are really high

I switched to a starch diet when i was 25 (thanks to Dr.McDougall's books), and since then i no longer have acne (maybe one pimple when on my period). I eat a lot of polenta, boiled corn flour made into porridge, and I have no issues with insulin as long as I keep fat to a minimum (10g of fat a day, maximum). I had a blood test last december and my insulin was normal. My fasting glucose was 80 (the parameter was between 70-100). I also eat a lot of wheat bread and wheat flour porridge, so I don't agree with eliminating gluten, unless you have proof that you have celiac disease. :) P.S. - hormonal issues are usually linked to insulin resistance, kind of like diabetes, that's why I replied to your comment, hope it helps.

This is why so many of the Indians died when the Europeans got there, all those diseases we brought from living in close proximity to animals taken out of their natural environment isn't something the Indians had any resistance too. What about the benefits of starchy vegetables like beets, butternut squash, turnips, carrots, sweet potatoes and peas? No one truly eats only corn, potatoes, bread or rice.
I like Dr. Gregor’s Daily Dozen and Furman’s G-BOMBs and try to eat accordingly: A wide variety of beans, greens, colorful veggies and fruits, mushrooms, berries, chia flax, walnuts, green tea, alliums, and starchy veggies, whole grain bread, quinoa, brown rice, and yes some beer and dessert.
