- Finally got around to doing this guide and realized how boring the builds are. So much for any promised diversity, the first 13 points are identical in pretty much all builds, then you have 8 to spend on your main talent, aka gunpower or torp power.

y u always take BFT? it has the same cost but HALF the former power...so it REALLY seems shit now when in the past i sometimes skipped it for gunboats in favor of other skills.

@@cobrazax I don't think it's worth the 4 points. 3 points would be better, maybe.
Even if the effect was constant and applied somehow to carriers, it would only give on average a 12% survivability bonus to shelling (not torps, fire and flooding), which is inferior to SE for every ship, even high HP ones like Harugumo.
Still, I pick it, because it still increases survivability, and to spite the new russian radar cruisers.

If a Skill like Concealment Exper is SOOO popular, that it's basically madatory for every single ship in the game, it shouldn't be a skill in the first place. It should be baseline.

On destroyers, stealth is life. Concealment expert has become more optional on other classes (still a very strong choice).
CE is not a requirement for all DDs. Kitakaze, Harugumo, Udaloi, Khaba, Smaland, Friesland, Magador, and Kleber can all be built for concealment or not. Your choice.
It used to be a lot worse. At launch and for a long time afterwards, we had 5 tiers of captain skills and CE was there. It meant that even a lot of DD players never were able to implement even a fundamental Stealth Build.

And because of increased costs, you can't afford same amount of buffs, as before, despite two additional points.
When WG can't control urge to nerf CVs anymore, they do substitution therapy and nerfing something other instead.
Do the Jutland and Daring require IFHE?

On the flip side, you can get an actually usable commander for credits and get elite commander xp for them, which is a part of the rework I like a lot.

Obviously, only change they care about is positive one on their bank account from everyone spending Free Exp to get captains up to 21
So basically they just made it necessary to have 21 pts to have the same build that a 19 pt captain used to have.
It's not that they're not diverse enough, it's that making them more diverse is the official reason why I should grind 1.2M cpt xp to basically make the same build on each ship where I had an elite captain.
so basically, wg bumped up the cost of the imporatant skills you will mostly be taking that you've taken before and then bumped up the skill point cap so you have to farm more commander xp...well at least I got to reset my captain's skill points

That's because the reload nerf always applies while the speed increase has the condition of not being spotted.
@@cl4ster17 i know what I meant was the pros and cons of the new skills are harder to see. They used to be listed together below the explanation of the skill. Now they're listed separately and that makes it difficult to choose skills at a glance.
well, if swift and silence gives you +0,1s to reload it's not really noticeable... I experimented with it on ranked Smalland and it was useful to move quickly between caps unseen... but I wouldn't use it for random games.... I'm pretty average player, so I got a use... a unicum wouldn't probably need it at all
@@szmike Using it on Smalland of all things seems quite counterintuitive. It can already reach 47.8 kts with engine boost and the impact on fire rate is noticeable since you use your guns quite a lot. The captain points are better used elsewhere.
@@cl4ster17 well, perks are % so one gets higher increases of high values and vice versa... in this case +0,1s to reload is negligible and with flag and speed boost it's over 50kts... don't recall exact value... but again, I'm not that good and my open water gunboating usually ends up in a port sooner rather than later, so I try not to risk it too much

The effect of Priority Target increased cost is that people push less. If i am detected but nobody aims me then i keep pushing - not now. This promotes more passive play again.
@Tobias Time PT is fun because it feels like the wanted level in GTA. 1 Star and you can hang, but 4 or 5 and you better get the hell out of there.
Thank you very much for this video and especially for the info regarding Dazzle. I've just started to level up my dd captains beyond 10 skill points and planned to get Dazzle next. Now I'll spent these 4 precious points for much better choices. 👍
Have to be honest, im loving swift and silent with points down the torpedo line on my Shimakaze.
Yeah I'm finding similar, everyone I see goes deep into the torpedo skills but I've found swift in silence allows me to flank enemy ships and get better torpedoes off. 42knt shima is scary when you're in a BB.

@@cl4ster17 exactly. Super speed Shima with fast torps is great fun. You can be at the cap first with a boost, get round the sides fast. Get out of trouble faster. I like to specialise in the things a ship does well. Surprised to see Flamu go for extra HP to be honest.
@@padanfain7466 that is a problem for shima, to get to the cap before you torpedoes are ready, and with speed perk you do not get rpf, so you would bump with gunboats more often, try meet with a daring nose in, against a good captain its oneway ticket to the port.
@@Korovkin_Pavel you don't have to stay in the cap, draw a radar, nip out behind an island. Etc. I find the extra speed more valuable than rpf personally. Rpf also gives away your position remember. Either way, I'm actually finding the new rework ok. Apart from CVs existing of course.

I use Swift in Silence on my Shima, thing is fast and can get you in nice positions very quickly.
@Vincent Ray if you have half a brain you can hide from it the rest of the game... Torps and smoke do the rest and if you do get spottend and attacked you get the buff again as soon as he's droped his payload so you can use the extra speed to reposition again. Best trick to go Stealth again is to stop sailing in a straight line after he dropped the last payload and to turn on AA only when he's with in your air detectability range. If he moves out you turn it off so he overshoots you with the rockets.

I like it on my Akat. 46.1 kts! Bb's don't expect torps to reach them that early in the match, and I take Main Battery anyway for the AA buff, so the gun reload nerf cancels out.

What about the Friesland ? would you run the open water brawler type build or the standard gunboat ?
Is fearless brawler worth the 4 points (+ you lose some concealment) when you can take BFT on a smaland, even if he have radar?
Hi Flamu; I was wondering if you would know if the playerbase for randoms is getting significantly lower? My +30 active player clan, we are all so thouroughly disgusted withe ccaptian skill reowrk and dead eay in particular. None are playing randoms or ranked anymore, we only do cbs... Is that your assesment too? If I check steam charts, there have never been as many players as right now
New player and looking at how to play a destroyer, this is helpful. I'm not sure what ships I should be looking at, probably torpedo boat/utility. Is there really a better line of dd's? you are showing mostly jpn, for example.
Basically, the nature of dds means that if the enemy specs CE and you don't, you're putting not only you but your whole team at a serious disdvantage. Therefore unless something is done about it (building it in, removing it, or moving it to a substancially lower tier), it basically locks up the first 4 point skill choice. No matter how good or interesting you design the other skills, unless something is done about CE, there's no reason not to spec it.

I'm a big fan of consumables enhancement whenever I can afford it. More speed boost, an extra puff of smoke or two, a bit more hydro safety is worth 2 points. Dunkirk's enhanced version of it turns Cossack into even more of a beast.
@Flamu how would you build the Grozovoi? It would get good value from Superintendent with its heal and AA and Speedboost consumables right? It's more like a gunboat with good concealment but I don't feel it's a cap contester with all the Hydroacoustics DDs that have been introduced. With this in mind, would it be worth building it like an open water gunboat without Concealment Expert? Something like: AR, SI, MBAE, FearlessBrawler? OR still get CE giving up FB or MBAE? Please help me out here, I want to get the most value for my dearest Grozovoi :)

swift in silence is actually quite good for legendary shima in ranked. I had a lot of success in the gold league with it.
Can be really trolly on Torpedo-built Halland.
I used to run RPF on shima but I find swift in silence more useful.
any one noticing the specks are working even when not specked , i have had some strange things happen . the one i don't like is getting spotted now . its instance death , and with people playing so far back you need a cv for spotting , i have taken not shooting and just spotting with rpf , with the old way you had rpf on your bb with made fighting and pushing a lot easier
For another youtuber, RDF is bad on torp boats because your target knows he is spottet and may start to react. Instead works good on cruisers without radar.
Any ideas on Friesland? Extra range doesn’t seem that useful, and 0.1 faster reload feels like a waste of 3 points.

I be honest, i did Z-52 AP Buff, i mean Gun boat idea, and still happy about this that i took 3 ships by this build on the start. and i stay on it. because i love it lol
quick note, if you have Cunningham and you drop him on Daring then SI is less valuable, so that's an option if you want to run other skills

I've experimented with a high-risk Shima build that uses Swift in silence instead of RPF and +5% torpedo speed instead of SE, and it has been greatly enjoyable but the value is debatable. Indeed, the actual variation of valuable builds is just pretty shit.
Yeah I prefer swift to RPF, when I'm flanking enemy BB's I don't want to advertise that I'm close to them, plus the speed makes ambushes easier to pull off

I run the 4pt speed boost on my shima to help with repositioning. I run shima as a cap contester not as a border humper. Seems to work for me. (this is in addition to standard dd torp built).

Any ship that relies more on torps than guns benefits, really. Yolo emilio is a prime example.
RPF is more important to have. Giving you location of the ship while you rush to it in fuel smoke
Diversity wasn´t the main purpose for the skillreset, it was for them getting more money out of you for conveting commander xp and resetting the skills. That was well done.
I've been finding it VERY hard to do well in the Mogador now.

You forgot to mention the downside of the Main Battery and AA Expert. It increases the range but it also INCREASES the dispersion.

It's worth noting that the rework has definitely shifted power away from gunboat DDs and more towards torpedo boats, since BFT was straight nerfed and Liquidator is one of the only decent 1pt skills that you can take.
Is it really a DD commander guide if you don't start with Yukikaze?
Flamu, honestly, think about it: 3 points for a skill that enhances reload by freaking 5%.
Meaning you do 105k instead of 100k dmg for instance. This is not worth in exchange for an additional smoke or heal or even ifhe on harugumo line.
Or 3+1 additional point and u got RPF on every DD which is super useful in every DD (ship)
I usually run Expert Brawler on all my gunboats but yes, it's torp build or gunboat build and no variation between the different nations

radiolocation its a must on all dds, and cruisers, as it was removed from bbs where it was just overkill when chasing or avoiding an lurking enemy dd.
bft or aft first on gunboats?
I'm grinding brit dd and so far i don't take prevent, last stand, or survival in the first ten points. If i get hit again after popping the repair i'm probably dead either way. Swift in silence i think should help address one of the issues with the daring with only a mild dpm decrease it can afford to take. I think that gets 44 knots with unique commander and speed flag. Superintendant over survival maximizes adrenaline benefit on ships that have heals. Priority target helps you know what the enemy is thinking and then incoming fire lets you see exactly when they fired without having to watch horizon. Totally helps agile dds dodge.
@Flamu i stoped playing the game since July 2020 and all i see are so many new things. Is there any main argument for coming back in the game and give it a chance back / giving WG a chance again after all that fucked up events and rng things?

Here I had to chuckle 9:26 seeing how Flamu quickly clicked the same five skills that I start every DD-build with. So there´s nothing wrong my perception, it really comes down to the same basic build every time :I

I use the Swift & Silent perk on my Paolo Emilio, only ship I found it viable on.
daring running swift in silence only gains 0.1 to its reload, i run it on mine to make up a little for lack of speed boost
I agree Dazzle is no good and Concealment is a MUST. I find German DDs with Hydro benefit from Consumables Enhancement, and in today's CV environment I run Main Battery and AA Specialist on most of my builds. I tend to prefer Fill the Tubes to AR.

I was right then about the BST skill being nerfed!! I have had to play some DD’s i use to gun boat more cautiously as the rate of fire is not so workable anymore!!

Flamu, the Liquidator skill isn’t an absolute value. It’s cumulative. For example, Shimakaze torpedoes go from about 400% flood chance to 538%

I disagree with adrenaline rush on shima. She will not benefit as much as hybrids which will actively take gun fights. In my experience so far the torp acceleration on her has actually been worth it, since it compensates for the poor dispersion of the torps quite nicely. Admittedly it is only a 19pt commander so far, which makes the decision for follow ups hard.

Is 'BFT' even worth it anymore as it only gives a 0.1s reload buff on most DDs and only 0.2s on a Shima... 3 points for 0.1s seems rather overpriced.
