    We should be able to show the measured response in the curve editor so that we can follow it for both MRC and to maintain the same levels. Otherwise we have to make an educated guess as to whether we are making the speakers brighter or not, something that should be avoided most of the time. Maybe even a button "fit to measured response" to trace it for us.

    I’ve gotten great results via XT32 with limiting the correction to 500hz but I also use speakers that are very well engineered and have a phenomenal on and off axis response. I firmly believe a lot of complaints about Audyssey are from users who have lower quality speakers, no PEQ or room correction is going to make a bad speaker sound good.

      I have Dynaudio speakers running off mono blocks plus 4 18" Dayton Subs in each corner tuned from a MINIDSP HD2X4 using REW. Audyssey ruins my sound with it's flat curve. I can edit the curve to resemble a Harmon and it starts to sound good again. Like before I run Audyssey. The default curve is terrible for me.

      I suspect it's also people who EQ full range when they shouldn't, or refuse to use dynamic EQ with appropriate offsets and instead try to re-create it with a curve, or worse just keep it flat.

    • @galzohar
      @galzohar Před 2 lety

      I think in most cases the ideal curve would be flat and limiting eq frequency to something between 200-700Hz depending on your room response, and using dynamic EQ to compensate for lack of bass when listening at reasonable volume. If it's not a movie, use reference level offset to tune it better for the content. I find that very often offset of 10 works well for non-movie content. Note that you still use the "reference" curve in this case but it will be effectively flat as the MRC and rolloff are at frequencies for which EQ is disabled anyway. Flat will ignore app settings and EQ full range to flat, which is often making things worse.

    New owner of x4500h here. Question about the curve editor. When implementing a Harman curve on the subwoofer channel with 20 and 55 hz at +6db and 160 hz at 0db, the correction results show that 20 and 55 hz are at 0 dB now downs loping to - 6db at 160 hz. Several forum posters recommend boosting the subwoofer level by 6 dB to compensate for the Target curve being lowered by the Audyssey multi editor. However if I measure with Rew after doing this oh, the bass is up way too much by 10 dB at 20 hz. It seems like boosting the subwoofer by 3 DB is better. What is the recommendation from audyssey for the subwoofer channel after editing the curve?

    I get vastly better results by taking very tight measurerments right at the mlp. Just 2" or 3" apart and only a group of 3 total in a small triangle pattern. Maybe this is because I only sit in one spot. I have found a degradation in results and sound quality by taking excess measurements spread out at the recommended 20" distance. This is after a ton of testing and recalibrated.

      No. Audyssey level matches. You can verify with an external source that they are level matched (the internal test tones bypass Audyssey). Keep in mind that don't aim for a specific dB because SPL meters have variances and the sources aren't guaranteed to be accurate. • @josephfranzen5626
      @josephfranzen5626 Před 2 lety +1

      I would run it before. The closer your FR is to a flat response the less work Audyssey will have to do. I run a MiniDSP HD 2x4HD to four subs and run it before Audyssey as well as the small amount of PEQ I apply via the DSP. Audyssey will also add delay for processing to that sub via the sub distance so I’m not sure if adding additional PEQ after Audyssey would alter the proper delay or not.

    • @matsudakodo
      @matsudakodo Před 2 lety

    On the top of my wishlist would be some form of quick measure to help position the speakers/subwoofer pre-calibration, warning if your microphone's initial position isn't dead-center (equal distance and level for left/right speakers) so that if you wish you can re-do that critical first measurement without re-running the entire calibration procedure, and a way to restart a measurement in case of unexpected background noise to speed things up (rather than having to let the measurement finish, finish uploading results, and only then re-run it). Lastly a better way to set the subwoofer distance for best integration with the speakers would be lovely, although I understand this might be difficult to do.
    Also, measurements from Amir in ASR show that the "after" is complete fantasy, so I'm not sure where the "it's real" is coming from. I find it impossible to believe that it's possible to achieve such a flat response with any system (and while in some extreme odd cases the "after" isn't flat, in the 99% other cases it appears unrealistically perfectly flat).
    I also wonder why the limiting of EQ frequency was completely ignored in this video, while in other Audioholics videos it's mentioned as a very important feature.

    How many data points can you add to the FR editor before it craps out? Since the files it outputs are human readable theoretically one could add 19,980 but obviously adding that many with a touch screen would be unfeasible and would look horrendous. My main idea is if you know the anechoic frequency response of your speakers you create target response based on that so knowing if you could do a 1 to 1 target response or if some form of averaging (logarithmic or linear) would need to take place in order to fit within that sort of window.
    Also you know the solution to your problem is crap is to spend an extra $200+ on a tablet just to use an app.... Or hear me out, you could just not make the app suck to use with a phone. On top of what Joe S and Jason Moore said it'd like the ability to click an advanced button on the FR and it brings you to a screen where all the data points are there and you can type in exactly where you want them and what gain they should be. Being able to just type a number makes your life so much easier otherwise it needs non-linear touch points so that way you can drag quickly for big changes but slowly for minute changes.

    You guys keep talking about setting your crossovers. But, I've read so many things online that, post Audyssey calibration, you CAN increase crossovers and speaker "size" but you CAN NOT decrease crossovers if Audyssey set them too high because it will create a "hole" in the EQ/sound. Is there any truth to this? I'm getting a lot of conflicting opinions. And yes, I get that Audyssey sets a crossover based on it's measurements of the room and speaker, and that dropping it is not always a good idea. But if I know a speaker can handle a lower xover, I want to be able to without ruining the EQ. Thanks!

      @Audyssey Laboratories we should add a note about Dynamic EQ and its effect on surround and height channel levels. When you lower the volume, your surrounds and rear heights will not reduce as much as your other channels, resulting in them being 3-5 dB louder than they should be, creating an imbalance. Since I am an advocate of DEQ and suggest leaving it on, I suggest using white noise from the Dolby Atmos speaker test videos to level-match your heights and surrounds to your fronts. Leave the fronts alone, however. This is actually an aspect of DEQ that I would like to see improved because out of the gate with DEQ on, the speakers are out of balance.

    Late to this discussion but trying to educate myself before setting up my 3700h
    Once you run auddysey and apply the settings can you rerun the test to see the results in comparison to before the recommended settings were applied
    So as to see how close it got to the target results or are the results in red actual results after it applied changes

    Iv'e been using Audyssey from 2EQ to XT32 through about 5 years. Now I'm waiting for D&M to adopt Dirac like Pioneer & Onkyo. They have to adopt or else they will be left in the dust. My 2021 Denon x3700h will be my last Audyssey product. I already have my eye on a future Pioneer...

      Dirac is full of bugs. Audyssey just works, if you understand how to measure correctly. Dynamic EQ is also exclusive to Audyssey, no other room EQ's have this kind of feature which is nuts

      @@droidzhunterz6861 Don't get me wrong, I love Audyssey and it's excellent. But moving to the more advanced software would be a wise choice if the other brands are going there. Audyssey has been one of the best for years and it's exclusive to D&M. When the other brands hold the Dirac card over Audyssey they can advertise their products to have the most advanced room correction software available. I have never heard of Dirac being buggy (ARC, yes) but if it is then maybe they are waiting for the bugs to be ironed out.

      They don’t need to adopt newer tech as long as Audyssey advances. More filters/correction, better default curve, and more advanced app.

      @UpgradingAsUsual Před 2 lety

      @@homeboi808 Well, a while back I did contact Audyssey about future upgrades and there are no plans to add more filters/ correction. I did not ask about better default curve or a more advanced app. But, Andrew Robinson just dropped the first review for the Onkyo RZ50 and it's astonishing for under $1500. Personally, I am waiting for the Pioneer AVR's to drop but this is already more than promising.

      @@UpgradingAsUsual Well, if Denon loses out on customers because they are going to Onkyo solely for Dirac, then Denon will put pressure on Audyssey.

    I purchased the app and promptly obtained a refund because, before using it, I had to give permission for it to use my Contacts, Photos, and Media ??? an amazing privacy risk. I noticed no warnings or reasons why in the Play Store. There may be acceptable reasons so I asked the developer 5 days ago, but no reply yet (3rd July 2023).
    I have all (except the center TV panel-as-a-speaker ) speakers with flat fr. and phase responses and time-aligned drivers, plus anti-diffraction-distortion design, and the mains have excellent Power response /off-axis. SO, I figure I can run the Audyseey system in the AVR, then use its values as a guide for tweaking of responses above 500Hz, levels, xovers, etc.
    From what I gather, this should be quicker and easier than using the app too. Have I missed anything, please?
    As my mains are -3dB at 25Hz, I have a 5.0 system i.e. no sub

      @Audyssey Laboratories thanks. So what i want to do is soften the highs in the center speaker cause i have a klipsch rp450c and the highs are not soft. So i figure i should lower the high frequencies on the center speaker in the app. Will that fix my problem?

    So I shouldn't set my speakers to small if audyssey sets them to large? I don't think my speakers will play the same spl as my subwoofers.

    • @pb24dagrk
      @pb24dagrk Před 2 lety +1

      Yes. Subwoofers play lower frequencies better. Use Small.

    • @matsudakodo
      @matsudakodo Před 2 lety

      Large means your subwoofers won't be used for music. Subs are better and receive more filter resolution according to this video.

    • @galzohar
      @galzohar Před 2 lety +1

      While Audyssey measuers how low your speakers can go, it doesn't measure how well they can play those low frequencies compared to your subwoofer, and therefore manual adjustments of crossover after audyssey are almost always needed.
      I also noticed that you usually also need to tweak the subwoofer distance, as the timing audyssey uses doesn't guarantee avoiding phase cancellations between subwoofer and speakers at the crossover frequency. Making an automatic solution that optimizes integration between subwoofer and speakers might not be simple, although I wish they could figure something out as this (currently manual) change makes a very significant difference.
