El niño has increased heat and reduced rainfall throughout the Philippines. Water table and water reservoir levels are way down. So much so that an old ghost town has emerged as dammed water levels have fallen by 26 meters this year.
Pantabangan is a 300 year old town from Nueva Ecija province.
The residents of the town were relocated in the 1970s when the dam was constructed. I sure hope the deceased were relocated too.
Many have traveled to see the old town. Fishermen in the area usually make about ₱200 a day (less than $4 a day) are seeing ₱1500 to ₱1800 (less than $30-$36) a day accommodating tourist who want ferried to the island town.
