- No bones about it. The Colorado Avalanche game against the Edmonton Oilers Friday night was one of their worst of the season. We can throw out all the excuses, but none would stick. It was bad. Maybe none worse for goalie Alexandar Georgiev. And because of that people are asking again who should be the starter in net for the post season.

If the defense in front of Georgiev did its job properly this wouldn't be a conversation. Ultimately, both parties are accountable for our failings at the back this year. Georgiev has been shaky at times, his rebound control has been really poor and he's given up too many weak goals. But the defense has been MIA positionally far too often, and extremely prone to being out-muscled in the battles down low. You have to admit, our top pairing is not playing well enough. I certainly haven't forgotten how we ended the regular season the year we won the cup, so I'm not giving up on the team and tbh anybody who does is insane.
You can thank Sakic and MacFartin for their dedication to making the blue line overly small and offensive (which is really just makar and toews supplying the offense). They continue to think that the team will just skate around opponents in the playoffs but the FURTHER they go the less their legs are going to work and the speed tactic doesn't work. That's WHY having large defenders is model to follow when the game slows they're not fully reliant on just speed. Prepare for the Avs to continue to get out muscled and pushed around and smacked in the face....and for no one not named Manson to do absolutely ZERO things about it. So weak.
I keep hearing that. You are probably right. The defense needs to do better. The Avs put up nearly 50 shots on goal on Montreal goalie and we lost. Their goalie didn't give up six goals. We also put up the same amount on Columbus and we lost that one. I keel hearing how Colorados D needs to step up. They do but Georgie needs to do better on his saves.
Our goalies haven't been playing great but I think the bigger problem is our net front defense is an absolute joke we constantly get out battled in front of our net. We are gonna always have that problem too because toews and makar are both kinda undersized for the netfront battle so against other teams first lines unless we are in the ozone we are gonna give up goals. Manson can battle and johnson can a bit, but Girard walker makar and toews are gonna have a hard time moving people in front of the net.
I'd only put one of those goals totally on Georgie.
First was on Girard coughing up the puck and Georgie was left hung out to dry.
Second was the broken stick play but Walker was marking an open patch of ice somewhere in the practice rink.
Third was a PPG with lost coverage by Makar or arguably Nichushkin. Nichushkin let the guy go and expected Makar (rightly imo) to take him and thus set up the box for the PK.
The fourth was totally on Georgie, went straight through him like he was a tea bag there.....perforated!
Fifth was simply a good goal by Dallas.
Sixth was lost coverage again by Mittelstadt/Girard and Manson, can't let guys walk the puck into your crease.
Seventh ENG...can't stop it from the bench!
The D simply need to go back to basics and learn to defend. All well and good being able to attack from the D but you also have to defend as well.
I'd be shocked if they won the cup with this line up and I hate to say it but Kadri really is the missing piece at this point. You always heard his name, most of the time for the right reasons and he was always involved. Mittlestadt is a ghost so far. Thanks for showing up awards go to Colton, Duhaime, MacKinnon, Lehkonen, Drouin and Trenin.
Commenting in the middle of the Dallas game and Juice needs to start the playoffs, ive been one of the most patient fans when it comes to Georgie but this just isn't his year. Having said that he could end up having a .930 save pct. and win the conn Smythe because regular season means nothing and goalies are voodoo lol

I wasn't sold on georgiev last year and this year the only reason he has 37 wins is because of come back wins for the most part. The dude is an awful goalie and at this point i know i want juice in net in the playoffs.
Unless they win the cup with him as the starter, I really don't see Georgie being on this team at the start of next season
"They're not turning to a rookie" There's a lot to be said for, riding the hot gloved hand. Jus is in a nice lil groove rn but, you run the risk of having an ice cold Georgie going into a cup run. Imo, you start Jus vs Jets in the back to back & Georgie in all the remaining games to get him goin. Give him the ol leg pad stick tap, assure him, "you're our guy" full stop. He goes into the playoffs focused on his game without any mental bs weighing him down. 🤞 but the ripcord IS still there. GOAVS‼️
Is it now Alexander "at least" 4giev? I realize they weren't all on him, Defense seemed to be optional. Oh well, hopefully the Avs pull a 2022 and just go off in the playoffs.
Shaggy ain't so shaggy anymore, nice doo dude! Also, I am with Kyle. Georgie ain't it! Is Justus? Prolly not ready. We are going into playoffs with a HUGE question mark in net and that is not a comfortable place to be. I was stunned they didn't make a move at the trade deadline to shore up the position. Sorry all you Georgie excuse makers but he has shown who he is all season long.
After seeing the Dallas game. Do we have the top defenders in the game, we sure do. But their roll on the team isn't to protect between the dots, its to push forward the offense. That strategy wont hold up past round 2 in the playoffs, if we even get there. Fans are entitled to their own opinions, but for me its not a goalie issue solely, its how we play defense. And ill pat myself on the back for calling this out long ago, glad its catching on.
That Dallas game was atrocious. He’s not a starter. I can’t believe Sakic didn’t make a trade to get a better goalie. It’s insane. Maybe they don’t intend on a cup this season.
Edmonton was definitely a bad game. They played their tails off against Dallas and penalties crushed them. Let’s just get to the playoffs healthy and get the regular season and all the standings and award discussions out of the way. I Georgie can improve even 5% I think that’s huge for this team. They will be fine, they are still a good team!
Everyone is making excuses for georgiyev. He just isn’t where he should be. An all star goalie that can lead a cup team needs to be able to steal games when D is bad. He can’t. He’s an average at best goalie.
Its his net but if he’s not what he should be in the playoffs the Avs will trade him before the draft, and pick up another goalie to run with,,, it’s put up or shut up time!
after b2b 6 goal game by georgie , i say play juice in the next 3//4 minni, jets and oilers ,some of u are like oh he didnt play good teams well lets see what he can do ,cause even against those "not" good teams he played great positioning is just better rebound control better ,ive been a goalie for 31 years so i see who has it and who dont and georgie is struggling defense or not , how many games has it been one shot one goal like jesus

I’m so so so over that goalie!!! I don’t understand why he’s never pulled because he isn’t performing well at all. Ugh
I think I'm done for the season boys. Can't keep watching them stink up the ice. The last 10 games have been horrible. I thought they got the magic back at the trade deadline with that 9 game streak, but since then it's on and off. Every team we will be facing in the playoffs is hitting another gear and the Avs are stuck in the mud. So aggravating. Georgie letting 2 or 3 goals in every first period isn't helping. Another 1st round exit is all I foresee. Sad to see no dynasty. 1 cup and done.

What a perfect start to the week hearing Chris still believing that the AVS are a good team. Very funny comment as the AVS losing streak continues. Yes , this AVS team is exhausted and this is expected as hockey is a sport that see players on ice time averaging 24 to 28 minutes. I say Bednar needs to strict the star players to 15 minutes of ice time these final 4 games of the season. April is definitely exciting as seen so far by this AVS team . Tuesday's episode is going to be so funny.

Why is there even a goalie discussion? I do not see a reason. You have your no. 1 goalie in Georgiev and the backup - hopefully, we will not need him in the playoffs - Annunen. Anyone who even thinks Annunen to start in the playoffs should better read very, very carefully the opponents Annunen has faced so far this year. He did not play against any of the top teams. He played in Tampa and we know how that ended 🤮. So, be thankful that we have a very good No. 1 goalie in Georgiev and be quiet! It is complete nonsense to blame Georgiev for the stupidity of the defense in front of him. Like tonight against Dallas, not one, not one single goal was his mistake but ALL goals were the mistake of the defense. This was the worst game I have seen from Manson and Toews in an Avs jersey. I will stand with Georgiev. He alone is the chance for the Avs to beat Winnipeg in round 1 period.
