I just bought mines today for my 5 turtles ,i bought this my marineland canister wanst keeping up with the water being clean so ill see if this well help keep my water cleaner for more days
What will happen if the filter is running but not underwater for a long time? I've kept it running in my home and due to lock down im stuck in another state and I'm pretty sure the water would've evaporated by now... Will it cause fire if it keeps on running dry? Also i have a heater running dry too... Pls help someone...
What's going on Cichlid Dan, nice tank and you explained the filter very well. I'm starting to get into the Cichlid game, I have a 65 gallon and I was thinking about the AquaClear 70. When you plugged yours in, I heard it made a little noise.... Does the noise go away eventually? And what substrate do you use or prefer that regulates the PH?... I hate cloudy sand 😫 that takes days to clear... Lol. I appreciate any feedback that you can give me.... Thanks 👍
Hi Jermaine, thanks for the feedback. The noise at the beginning is the filter priming the pump and that goes away. There is a slight humming from the motor and there's also the water flow noise but that is much less if you have your tank filled to capacity. As for substrate I do use sand in my peacock tank and it actually has the clearest water, no issues with cloudiness- it's all about cleaning it out before putting it in and then making sure you dont blast it with water. You can also do something like Caribsea that has some shells in it to raise ph. Most pet stores have some sort of shell based gravel that will raise ph for african cichlids. I also dont use real wood in any of the african cichlid tanks as that lowers ph. Thanks for the questions and good luck!
@@dannyperez1604 .... Thank you for your response, I appreciate any and all tips you give me. Quick question: what do you think about the AquaClear 110 for my 65? I see some folks with 2 HOB filters on their tanks.... What would Cichlid Dan do?... Lol😄.
@@jermainet.campbell7184 I think the AC 110 is a great choice but I always recommend having more than one filtration system per tank, that way you can alternate maintenance and you have a backup if one goes down. You can do two AC 110 or even two AC 70 on a 65 with a bubbler and/or sponge filter for extra water circulation.
I would shorten the intake tube if you have sand substrate and use a pre-filter sponge to cover the intake tube. That way sand won't get in the propeller.
He has two filters so that he does not wipe out all his beneficial bacteria when he cleans one of the filters. The sponge filters are an additional source of beneficial bacteria. The poster is obviously big on biofiltration. It's not a bad thing, and you could definitely get away with less.... but this is a hobby and some people like to exceed the minimum requirements. :). Have fun.
Can i use 2 twin aq 50s on a 40 gallon or is it too much? Will the fish blow away? The tank will have only 2 fancy goldfish and maybe a school of white clouds. Also if i use two aq 50s, does that mean less maintenance and less water changes compared to if i use a single filter to do all the workload? A reply would be appreciated thanks
Bio media doesn't ever really need replacing. Just rinse with tank water. Mechanical filters like sponges also rinse with water during water changes. I'd maybe replace them after a year but only if you see your flow rate slow down. Chemical filtration like charcoal, purigen etc id give about 3 months before they lose their effect.
@@Caspy.theghost yeah 3 months max for that. It's chemical filtration and loses its effects to clean impurities. The sponges are mechanical filtration and provide some biological as well, replace maybe once a year but they could go longer. Any kind of rings or bioballs etc are biological filtration and don't need replacing.

Save yourself some money buy Purigen instead of carbon "Purigen removes more than carbon. Carbon basically is a chemical filter. It doesnt remove protiens and other organics that a synthetic polymer filter is designed to remove" Also you can recharge Purigen 10x
I'm a long time AquaClear user and I just got a Tidal 75. I find it much louder than any AC I've had. It's not brutal... but I basically don't notice my Aqua Clears running... this is noticeable. I've got a AC 70 on order, and I will test them head to head before I return the loser. Maybe I just got a Lemon Tidal?
@@SurrealParkour Hey Gary. The update is that I kept the Aquaclear. (I now have two AC 70 running on the tank). For me, the most important factor became the media storage. The AC can hold more media and does a better job of directing the water through the media. The Tidal allows a lot of water around the media by design. I’m not talking overflow when dirty, but specific holes left in the media area to allow a constant path around the media. The quieter operation of the AC was also important, although I do have to touch the lid every now and then if it starts vibrating. I will say that the Tidal moved more water, and of course had the submerged pump, which is an advantage for cleanings and power outages. I also preferred the look of the plain tube entering the viewing area of the tank as opposed to the large black submersible enclosure of the Tidal. So, overall both good pumps but I went for AC due to better use of media and quieter performance. That’s my two cents! Good luck.
@@MiketheHighLord I am literally searching every forum i can find for one AC110 vs buying 2 AC70s. I am leaning towards 2 70s because i have two red eared sliders and turtles are messy with tank water quality. Also can go at two separate ends of the tank. Which would you suggest ?
@@SurrealParkour I went with two AC 70’s for the reasons you described as well as the ability to clean one pump at a time, which I feel will better maintain my biological filtration between cleanings. Also you can put different media in each filter, expanding your options for combinations or specifications.
Just bought this, works great. Helped my discolored water and cloudiness .
Thanks for the tutorial! Really helped get us going. Had a whisper HQ died. Lost 14 fish. Able to get this up and running quick to save the rest.
Thank you your video was very helpful
Nice video man, very helpful. Always been a fan of the AC filters. New sub to the channel!
Thank you!
Nice tank..... Been a fan of the AquaClear line for decades👍🏻 I have yet to find a HOB filter that can compete... 🐠
Thanks! I agree Aquaclear still has the best hob filters out there.
For its size, the AC 70 has great flow and function. The 110 is an animal too. Great flow and design.
why buy one110 if u can buy 2 70 right?
Thank you 🙏
I wonder if I’ll be able to use the aqueous filter cartridges as a substitute for the bags you used

I have a 53 Gallon tank that is 48 inches long. Wondering if it matters if I put this filter in the middle or at the end of the tank?
Can anyone tell how often you should change the sponge, carbon and bio filtration?
Feedback would be much appreciated.
I’ve had this filter twice now and it just randomly shuts off not sure if they are just defective or I’m doing something wrong it doesn’t make sense
Did you install the leveler on it? Mine didn't come with one.

Just a couple of inches, 2 or 3

Aquaclear 30 or 50 for more filtration like I put a 110 on my 65 for extra and don’t use carbon

Luke warm water for rinsing the media, DO NOT USE HOT! And better yet, rinse the new media in tank water that has been removed.
