  • Decolonizing Black Masculinity: Healing Historical Trauma and Cultivating Healthy Identities at the Intersection of Race, Gender, and Power: Keith Boykin
This session will provide a progressive and open-minded space for participants to explore and redefine Black masculinity. It acknowledges the ways in which Black men's self-identity and perceptions of masculinity are shaped by historical and cultural factors such as racism, the adultification of Black boys, the dismissal of Black pain, and the influence of society’s toxic masculinity.
New York Times bestselling author Keith Boykin will guide participants to reflect on their own experiences and beliefs about Black masculinity and explore how cultural norms, media representations, and historical events contribute to narrow and limited conceptions of masculinity.
The session will be a safe and inclusive space for all participants, regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. By the end of the discussion, participants will gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others and leave with strategies to decolonize their perceptions of masculinity by promoting healthier, LGBTQ-inclusive, and anti-racist practices.
