Scotty Kilmer where’s the link for the common sense? I’m told I need that a lot.
Kinda agree with video but kinda not. The lift I’m planning will keep all my angles minus transmission to drive shaft but even that’s an easy fix with a dual yoke.
Scotty Kilmer lol..👏..👏..
Scotty Kilmer what happened to your four head
Your common sense needs to be evaluated brother. Most of what you mentioned is simply false
“Easier to get under when they break down.” Priceless.
Lifted trucks are the best yall
Easier to change the oil on*
Yeah, you're gonna need it, I can get under my not lifted suv just fine 😆
Lifted truck is a must if you life in area that get flooded allot, so your above the water.
I never see any of these jacked up Monster Trucks out in the woods when I'm hunting and fishing. Seems like I see a lot more of them cruising around the mall driven by guys with their baseball hats on backwards.
Mall crawlers
Yep
That's great. You're the exception to the rule.
Can confirm, I am one of those.
I've been all over Florida and know exactly what you're saying. I love seeing Monster Trucks with chome wheels and no bumper hitch. You KNOW that baby isn't doing any off-roading and has never towed anything heavier than a case of beer. Short guys seem to love 'em too for some reason.
After watching this, I’m getting a 90s model Chevy and putting a 6 inch rough country on it with 40s
Atlantic Pacific I bought my ford that was lifted... and I removed it
@@rustypliers74 really cus I bought a Ford 250 with a 10" lift on it, and my only thought was I wonder if I can clear 40's
Jayden Van Ness I agree with you haha. I feel like this man's full of crap
Make sure you solve that leaking oil pan gasket before you touch anything else. I finally got mine to stop. Major P.I.T.A. now, just waiting to see how long she stays dry.
I have one she rides nice and smooth... makes it easier for when I need to get under my truck
Damn, in 4 minutes Scotty just torched half of Arizona worse than the literal sun
I can confirm. I lifted my truck and now my ankles are broken :(
mr1337357
Both of them!? How?
mr1337357 it's a joke dude.
Can they fix them? Are you in pain?
why u dont buy junk spacer lift kits for IFS. Do do a Dana 60 SAS swap.. Be able to rock crawl with 44's..
I'm probably gonna FJ80 swap. I'm too lazy to chop up a D60 to fit.
I LOVE the transitions between cuts!😂 you never know where he’s gonna pop out next.
Next cut, Scotty pops out of the tailpipe.

Make a video about why having a steering weel is a bad idea
That's illogical while this is not
100 % of vehicles with steering wheels will steer into something one day, causing a crash.
Dude that is so funny lmao bro!! Hell steering wheels are so overrated!! Lmao
Weel…
*wheel*. And put your ball cap on like a grown man.
Scotty I don't understand, if I can't lift my truck or drive an expensive German car, how then can I make my weiner not look as small?

As an owner of a lifted truck, this man has many true points as I have learned over time.
Channel Zero One how long did your truck last before signs of wear? I’m planning on buying a 2001 Toyota Tacoma and I had some mods in mind
Michael Hogan I just lifted my 2000 tacoma 2 days ago and I love it
Michael Hogan i have a 2009 gmc serria and put a 1.25 inch body lift and a 3.5 suspension lift on and less than a year snapped a ball joint (which were new with the upper control arms that came with the lift)
Channel Zero One you can't haul a traler
Kyle Helsel I'm looking at doing a SAS on my 02, they are godly off-road, but it takes either a shitload of time and a lot of money, or just a shitload of money.
This video makes me glad I put a 8 inch lift on my truck and I’m happy with my 8 miles per gallon
What about now?
@@elementsk8erq probably 4mpg
Mine runs on 13.6mpg
I have a lifted truck, but my long drives begin when the road ends. Suspension geometry remains the same with a good kit.... Including a dropped front diff. When you start using torsion keys and crap like that, that's where most of the ride and wear both come from
Things break on my truck cause of abuse, not cause of a 6" lift.
Man. Egos are getting hurt left and right .
7.2k posers are seriously BUTT HURT right now...
When what you own doesn't really represent what you show for.
Doing it wrong wears out components. He is wrong. Their is alot more to it than just paying for and putting on the kit.

I was thinking the same thing haha
Guilty here, lol!
Me 6. The only reason I watched this video was to see what the frack was wrong with lifting a vehicle. I would never put a lift kit on a vehicle. I wouldn't have wasted my time if he had used "lift kit" in the title.

Its part of the unspoken agreement. The price you pay to have it properly fixed. If he didnt roast your vehicle, its not a good sign.
1987 lifted 4x4 still going strong
One advantage of a lifted truck in heavy Deer country like in Northern Michigan is that when you hit one, not if, the Deer usually will go under the vehicle instead of over into the windshield. Does much less damage to the front of the truck and greatly minimizes the chance of Bambi joining you in the passenger compartment.
I have deer that SATURATE my neighborhood and I'm fine driving my stock gmc, usually when you LIVE in deer country you're pretty good at avoiding them. And almost every mature fullgrown doe or buck will STILL rake out your front end even with a lift. You know how tall they are??
If you get a lowered car you'd be better off because then they just go over the top.
GoogleMinus idk about that, but here in Missouri, there was a recent crash where the deer went straight through the car windshield.
grew up in Wisconsin and you not shitting about not if but when. I remember everyone had those deer whistle things on their car. some people even blew their horn every so often thinking that'd scare em off. I ain't seen a deer down here in Kentucky in years. one thing I don't miss bout up north.
No name they make a good food
That is why you do not get cheap-o lift kit that just stretches the springs without lowering the diff to match factory angles
Tires are the best way to get true ground clearance, so a body lift allows you to clear them without messing with the factory suspension
+Daniel Bargas So true cause regular lift kits will screw up the axle pinion angle sometimes and cause the shaft to lock up.
+Joseph Long yep 3inch body and 3 inch suspension is better than 6 inch suspension, just make sure the body lift is a quality reputable company
+Daniel Bargas definitely
+Joseph Long or you could just lift solid axle trucks that aren't for looks
All y’all salty cus he’s telling the truth 😂 I have a lift on my truck and I find this video to be informative
You just have to set the lift right and he acts like lifted messes up the truck just leveling it can mess it up you got to do it right the first time. I bought a cat eye chevy from my neighbor and it was leveled a nice truck but he didn’t level it right and when I bought it it messed up 3 months after I bought it but it was already junk looked good but wasn’t worth nothing. My cousin has a 12 inch lift on his d max no problems with it.
Bet you didn’t think they were dumb during the hurricane flood in Houston!
Or huricane floorance
Lifted Trucks seen in Disaster Areas are professionally done and are balanced and not at angles. What he is talking about those that lift to look cool. He does not talk about those that have 30 inch plus tires with a professional lift.
Or Coastal North Carolina ;o)
Emergency Rapid Response Team 30 inch tires are uhhh tiny
His voice is wearing out my eardrums
What happened to letting people do whatever the hell the want with the vehicles they pay for? Lifted trucks can be lifted properly. People who lift trucks don't give a shit about gas mileage also..Or tire wear. We lift our shit because we like it that way.
How can you say there is NO real reason for anyone to lift up a truck that's already high? and then claim they have an inferiority complex? What about people that just like lifted trucks?
I'm a bit disappointed by this ignorant viewpoint you seem to have! Its ok not to like lifted trucks but to say its "dumb" or because of an "inferiority complex" is really ignorant :/
It's dumb starting your truck. It wears out the engine.
You didn't grasp this at all.
george marshall dang, I should never start my engine again..
george marshall 😂😂😂😂😂👌👌👌👌
Well your truck is made to run/start, not made to be set at different levels/angles
get a proper lift installed
With all the videos you have done, I have NOT seen one, NOT ONE, on the topic of, "What is the best vehicle for picking up babes!"

Ok .....
1. A true proper lift has angle shims for the rear end to reduce the driveline angle.
2. Depending on the steering mechanism a lift kit comes with different pitman arms
3. A IFS lift should have a drop kit to keep CV axles at stock angle.
4. You really dont know much about lifted trucks.
I think your only valid complaint is working under the hood.
With the new designs of lift kits available the ride the look the performance and resale are all greatly improved. Aftermarket springs and shocks will ALWAYS be better than OEM bs.
skagit bigz well said I agree
Please make a video about why you shouldnt camber the wheels on a car.
Fox McCloud 007 yes! He will definitely bring the younger demographic attention to your Channel
What about negative camber tho haha, joke aside stancers are dumb as fuck
Casey Jones yes but that's about 5 degrees max not 20 haha
Marguel Gutierrez better than having a lifted truck
Fox McCloud 007 mild or low angle camber looks good imho and is useful on the track. Anything more looks trashy
I️ had a lifted 1/2 Tom chevy for years (1984)
Never had a problem out of it, save for the shitty 305. It was a 4” rough country full leaf spring lift, with extended break lines, steering drop arm.
Rode like silk, and could go off the road at 30+ mph into dirt. And big tires wear like iron if you inflate to proper psi, and rotate/balance them.
Your customers didn’t properly install their shit.
Exactly. I had a 2003 F-350 with an 8 inch lift and 37" tires of course I used it for towing so it had airbags but it was a race truck basically. And it never had any problems aside from being the 6.0 it had
I'm one of the few that actually live in a swamp. Totally worth it come hurricane season.
This all depends on the lift quality you purchase I install a lot of them and a good lift factors in the angles of the drive shafts and Axles in the front, Make sure you do routine maintenance on your truck helps a lot, also, you have to plan wisely rebuilding your front suspension and doing it right takes most of the worries discussed away.
Yes and kryptonite steering products can help bulk up the suspension too
My stupid ex drives a big truck with a lift kit. She won't admit it but it's to feel big since she's like 4'11"
how does she even get into it? 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Why It's Dumb To Lift A Vehicle? Because you can hurt your back.
mrk107 whatever, lifted trucks and jeeps look awesome
offshore fisherman do you not get the joke
Peter Marino i do, lowered vehicles usually look like crap unless they're done right, they can be hard to get out of
mrk107 that's not true I lifted my 6 year olds nephew's Powerwheels Chevy Silverado vehicle and my back is fine and dandy
LOL, good one. the answer I was expecting was "Because the height of your truck doesn't correlate to penis size"
Yeah but.. What will the ones with a small Pipi otherwise do??? We need to lift it to impress the girlsss...
I enjoy and learn a lot from your content - thanks Scotty. But about lifted trucks, I’ve had them for 35 years and almost couldn’t picture driving anything else. There are lots of crappy lifts out there - but a well engineered modest (2-4”) lift that accounts for all the driveline and steering angle changes has minimal impact and can increase the performance, utility and most certainly looks of a 4x4 truck. Needless to say, doing it “right” even for a small lift is not cheap. That said, any half baked lift no matter how small or big will definitely cause wear problems, funny enough - I think one of the biggest offenders that seems so harmless but can cause the most damage is leveling kits on IFS trucks. They just raise all the driveline angles without any correction.
Scotty,...You forgot to mention the morons that don't get the headlights properly adjusted after adding the lift-kit. A real PITA to all the other drivers on the road, whether they are coming at you or following behind.
They also are usually the ones that will put HID lights in their headlight housing that wasn't made for HIDs and they'll blind you even more.
+Poopsie Doopsie no they're not. The civic and Miata drivers are the ones known for that...
That's annoying, but not really an issue unless they have high beams on. My stock suburban already shines in people's rearview mirrors even though the truck itself is the lowest riding of the 3 american brands, ford, dodge and GM
That's I enjoy having my led light bar on my truck.
NOLL72 lol idgaf
1:40 this is a problem with a crap IFS system, solid axles don't care if you lift it or not.
Or you could just do a proper lift and not a cheep half assed one
Or you could learn how to spell.
Is rough country a good brand?
What would u consider a proper lift?
there a cheep brand. put money into it and do it right. @@youngshrine3024
Ain’t nothing wrong with cranking your torsion keys !
I was thinking about lifting my stock 96 Bronco. Glad I saw this video first. Thanks Scotty!
Not sure why this video has so many dislikes but a lot of what he's saying is true. There is a "proper" way to lift the suspension that involves extensive driveline/steering modifications but most (if not all) "lift kits" do not address this. Lift kits only focus on the height aspect which is only half the puzzle, if you care about reliability and want to do the lift properly, you'll need to pony up the cash for the proper driveline/steering modifications. Often times, these ancillary modifications will end up costing more than the actual lift kit which is why most people overlook this.
exactly. you get what you pay for which is why I went with BDS
The video has dislikes because it’s a bunch of bullshit. The video should be titled why you shouldn’t buy a cheap lift kit. Not why are lifted trucks dumb. This is just an old creepy man spewing his opinions. If you have ever done a lift you would know a good kit does come with extensions and pivots for your steering and drive shaft. Most guys lifting their trucks are also changing drive shafts and axles and even upgrading the steering to push bigger tires around. You know what I think is dumb. Driving a tiny little car that’s slower than my big truck, I think it’s dumb to drive a little car that you wouldn’t have a chance of walking out of if you were to hit or get hit by my truck, I think it’s dumb when people put a wing on a front wheel drive car. I think it’s dumb when people put 2000 dollar rims on a car with a broken window and four different colored body panels.
Getting a 8" bds with dual fox shocks front and rear. Bds coilovers front steering stabilizers and throwing 26x16 specialty forged on 37s amp tires. Am I dumb ???!

Almost all lifts come with diff drop brackets so your cv axle stays level, and most come with lift knuckles to correct tie rod angles and ball joint angles.
you don't need lift knuckles to correct tie rod angles and ball joint angles, but it helps
Tom Musick you don’t need beer to have fun, but it helps

He was a mechanic like 20 years ago lol its 2018 they have come along way
Good point but your talking about premium lift kits. I think he's referring to the shitty ones.
I've had a few drinks, man this one had me laughing like mother. 👍🤣
This guy is just a big ray of sunshine!
lol!
If that is a "giant lift kit" @ 1:13 and those are "aggressive" tires @ 2:04, I think he'd have a heart attack if he went to Texas, lol.
But, his points are valid, you can't just throw a kit on, crank up your torsion bars, and call it good. Driveline angles, steering angles, and alignment are all effected.
1)He lives in Texas.
2)He means giant as too much for the truck, it messed up everything.
3)The tires are not mud-terrain but are more aggressive than road tires.
*****
1) doesn't get out much, does he?
2) incorrectly installed or designed =/= too much.
TBH, that truck is so beat up I'd be shocked if it didn't haven't a bunch of worn suspension components.
3) Those are Bridgestones, that is a tread pattern extremely similar to the Bridgestone touring tires somebody put on a Pontiac Firebird I owned. Those tires aren't even remotely "aggressive". They are pretty much an all season tire at the most. He shoulda walked the 6 feet to the other side of the truck and showed the mud terrain tire there if he wanted to say that.
l337pwnage
They are probably dueler 694, an All terrain kind of tire, they are not that aggresive but every new 4wd comes with road tires, in comparison to them yeah they are much more aggressive. There is no lift that won't mess up an Independent Front Suspension unless it's not lifting it much but still... The only right way to put such lift is to install a Solid front Axle and then lift it, but still it might require a differential lowering kit if it's too much. You also got to worry about the driveshaft. Lifting a vehicle is not as simple as it may sound. Sure you can do it but it will cost you in reliability. Monster trucks made from f150s and any other similar truck look cool, are great off-roading but they break often aswell. Just an example.... Of course if you need one of these lifted trucks nobody said not to get one, he was probably criticizing the people who lift them for the looks! That's crazy it messes up everything and gives you something that you don't really need. Anyways... oh by the way, what truck do you drive? Have fun and keep wheeling :)
l337pwnage
Looking at it again and judging by the siping the tires could also be Dueler 695 or dunlop grandtreks but what I'm really curious about is why the owner had 4 different tires in the truck. That's one of the reason it surely gets bad MPG... let alone the aggressive tires hehe
l337pwnage
never mind my other comment, I watched the vid again, they clearly are Bridgestone Dueler A/T 694 tires.
Scotty i love your videos and yes ppl do shitty lifts that cause wear and vibrations and other problems and premature wear but if u are fussy and very experienced in lifting your vehicles and know all the tricks and the RIGHT parts to get and been doing it for many years as i have, it really helps offroading.
Scotty you are completely correct. I had a lifted truck when I was younger and yep. Things wear out. Just like the oversize tires caused my rear differential to need replacing and I pre maturely wore out my front wheel bearings. Replaced U joints and slowed the whole vehicle down. That being said I would take my truck 4 wheeling on a regular basis and loved it and would do it all again if I could afford to have toys. 3 kids in college and a house and I can only watch you tube videos. These lifted trucks are more of a personal touch like Jeep owner always do to make their vehicles different.
Jeep sells its own lift kits and still warranties the vehicle.
mattsbrute jeeps > trucks
ok but hwere am I supposed to fit all my shit in a jeep? don't get me wrong, I think lifted jeeps look awesome, but a lifted truck can actually fit my 8' fishing rod in it. if im ever lucky enough to be able to afford a jeep and a truck, bet your ass ill have both
I have a lifted jeep. My son and I were hit from behind at 50 mph. Insurance covered all damage. By the way ... the 37" wheel and tire mounted on the back saved us by taking all the impact.
*Joe Smith * mine paid an additional $11,000 for just my lift, wheels, and tires when i totaled my Silverado Duramax 3/4 ton... so your wrong. you must keep your receipts. of course, i don't insure my stuff through e-surance either. I use real insurance.
Jeeps are the ultimate offroad SUV nothing beats a Wrangler or oldschool Cherokee.
Lets have a video that talks about not putting a mud terrain, an all-terrain, and a snow tires all on the same vehicle. Obviously this truck is owned by someone who needs more help than Scotty can give.

Hey Scotty, Thanks a whole lot for this video is was as usual for your videos very informative. What is your Take on "Portal Axles"?
1:43 😂BOOTS!!
That's what they're called?
The issues are because they didn't get a quality lift kit and didn't realign everything right. There are other details that go into it, but the main idea is, don't go cheap and if you aren't confident doing it yourself or don't have the experience, then have a professional do it.
Understand I'm not hating on you, I love your videos, it's just, it's not as bad as the video makes it seem
Yup.
yeah, you cant just turn up the torsion bar pre-load and call it lifted. I see what he is talking about all the time though. you cant be cool on the cheap.
HFAS TV thanks. Someone finally mentioned it. This looked like a cheap lift kit. A proper one would address most issues.
HFAS TV Just don’t do it. Nearly no practical benefit, high CoG, and annoying.
I did put a two inch lift on my two wheel drive front end Chevy to just level it - hopefully this wouldn't cause me problems down the road ....
I’ve had a 1993 lifted Cummins in my family since new and it’s still running better then any vehicle today
This should be titled, "Why it's dumb to not lift an IFS truck properly". Offroaders know that lifting a truck with a monobeam front drive axle is much easier and doesn't have as much geometry to consider as does an IFS vehicle. However, if done right, there will be nothing that's going to go wrong with your independent front suspension equipped truck so long as you don't beat on it too hard off road. There are many guys who lift their trucks the right way that enjoy all the benefits of a lifted truck off road and still are able to put hundreds of thousands of miles on their rig when their not on the trail. Lift it right and your truck will be just fine.
If you are saying that it's just dumb in general to lift a truck then that is just a flat out dumb thing to say. Sure, there is no reason to lift a truck if your going to spend all your time on paved roads; other than you thinking it looks cool. That being said, there are millions of farmers, mobile welding service owners, mobile mechanics, loggers, gas/water/oil well service guys, off-road enthusiasts, park rangers, people stationed in remote areas, families that go camping off the beaten path, etc. all across the world that would vehemently disagree with you that, "It's dumb to lift a vehicle".
***** you can lift anything. This video is 90% wrong. With a lot of dumb comments
Jim Garrison im glad someone is with me on how dumb this idiot is, he calls himself a pro, smh.
***** actually your comments are the only ignorant ones here... You say Brendan isn't as smart as the hack in the video, yet you know nothing about him in the first place. Second my comment was and still is correct. "Scotty's point" was made clear, and it wasn't "yea you can lift stuff but its not a good idea to cut corners".... You did read the title right...? Why its dumb to lift a vehicle. I'm pretty sure his point is pretty straight forward there... His hole video did nothing but bad mouth an idiot owned/ lifted truck. Uneven tire wear can happen an any vehicle, diff angle doesn't effect how it works in any way (as little as it is indexed), worse breaks is a joke because they should be upgraded with bigger tires, on and on...... So again 90% of this video is bs. So in all actually zaco, you are the only one with the dumb and wrong comments.
***** OK look smart guy. He ACTUALLY says "why it can be dumb to lift a vehicles suspension"..... Thanks for your correction. From the very start he's WRONG.... You don't " live the suspension". You replace the suspension.... Next, he doesn't say or even imply anything being installed improperly..... He just states all the issues with lifted trucks.... (Which is bs). Next "tires wearing out faster"..... How's that make any sense, a properly lifted truck has proper alingment, which in turn doesn't effect the tires, so he's WRONG again. Next.... (This one made me laugh). Ok I'll just hope that the link you shared whas the wrong page...... Because it deals with mostly caster and camber..... Which is the front tires. Non of that has ANYTHING to do with the angle of the driveshaft. The person is talking about lift blocks which either don't change the rear diff angle at all or very very little. Also blocks don't change the location or angle of the front diff at all.... So hopefully you just posted the wrong link. Every vehicle I've owned has had upgraded breaks for one reason or another. Next you lift trucks..... Not cars. (Haha okok you got me in the " actuallity ". Damn spell check). In all he implies and states all the things that can go wrong with lifted vehicles, and makes them statements. Not telling you things to watch out for, or to prevent. But that's enough technicalities for now.
+zaco21 you are quoting everything. Get under a truck done right before you start shit. My truck has been lifted on mudding tires and has been just fine for 8 years. Not a damn problem, because it was done right. Unlike the restarted truck in this video. He tried to spend less money by lifting the body rather than getting new coils and shocks. He didn't get a leveling kit. He didn't align the wheels after getting the tires. I did all these things and my truck is fine bud
This is the dumbest video I’ve ever seen, but a good lift and it will lower the diff to keep the angles right
Sure a video about how lift kits are not always dumb just dumb in general, is stupid because of what you said, because you need to have your truck 20 feet in the air to compensate for your small penis. Sure makes a lot of sense.
You sir, are one clever S.O.B. you make the complex B.S. understandable for us mere mortals. Good Vid.
Good video, Scotty! I wish I would’ve seen this video about 20 years ago when I thought it would be cool to drive a lifted 1985 Toyota 4x4 pick-up! It was pretty reliable and I drove it for 250,000 miles, but I almost got bucked through the roof about 50 times. Luckily, I’m older and wiser now! Thanx for all the great videos and opinions on the automotive industry! Coolest channel on You-Tube!!,
bucked through the roof? what does that mean?
@@jasonbrown5014 Good question. It means that the “ride” of my ‘85 Toyota 4x4 truck got so stiff, after installing the lift kit(Pro Comp) , that any pothole or speed bump would cause a severe “thump” to the occupants. Most of the time I was like” OK, that just goes with the territory!”, but a speed bump hit at high speed was not fun!!! I don’t know if all lift kits did this to these trucks, but anyone wanting to do this mod definitely needs to be aware of the stiffest ride possible. A friend of mine said” This is like riding a brick down the street!”
Your next video should be why your stingray smokes like your burning roofing shingles. I am not referring to the tire smoke!
the1boogeyman BEST COMMENT ON THE LIST BY FAR! LMFAO
I gots an idea.
Lifted.
Smart-car.
????
DO IT
make this happen
Step 1) Lifted Smart Car (w/ Super Swampers?)
Step 2) ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Step 3) Profit !
Don't forget to paint the dice numbers on the sides.
Ian McGee
Profit?
PROFIT.
Had my lift on my 04 ram truck 14 yrs now,and only replaced the factory tie rods ends for better ones and maybe a alignment here and there..
Can it be done right with a professional doing the lift? Or is it just a bad idea in general?
If you half-ass the lift on your truck of course you're going to fuck it up.
Informative video. Thanks for sharing your expertise. A question: Is there a sweet spot (i.e. 1" or 2" lift) in which the wear/damage would be diminished due to a less severe angle?
This is a good question
I've lifted a Jeep before and change out everything on the front end except the drop pitman arm and ball joints with new control arms, track bar, tie rod and drag link and never had a problem with it since even though the vehicle sat higher up by changing a few parts on it I manage to have all the angles at stock specs (helps when you have solid front and rear axles)
I bought a 2017 F350 with a rather high stock lift for this reason. Having a nice stock lift is great and I don't have to mess with anything aftermarket.
man scotty with this video and the dont drive through water video you aint gettin any points with the offroad community haha
Didn't know lifted trucks are consider race cars
Michael & Mishelle i think he said, "raised" cars, instead of trucks.
I think thats the joke
I thought the same thing plus Iam lit af
Well every lifted truck I see does floor it at a green light.
Dillion Castillo they look stupid!
You should make a video about lowered trucks 😀
I think we're talking about the difference between a 1 foot+ lift vs a 2-4 inch lift that people usually use if they are on back roads a lot with a few big rocks in the road.
Well, to each his own. I don't care much for lifted IFS trucks anyway. If it's done properly you eliminate most of those problems he mentioned.
As a GM technician this video makes me laugh. We put factory lifts on our truck nowadays, and I have never seen one come back
You make me laugh. EVERYTHING GM makes these days comes back with problems, you are not telling the truth.
Scotty Kilmer OH SHIT
I went through some nightmares with GM cars. Never in my life ill drive a GM again.
What's your opinion on a 2 1/2" leveling kit for a front end only, on a 2017 F-150 just to level it?? That you! Great channel Bud 👍
Why not to watch Scotty? Because anything you do to your vehicle is wrong. Lol!
Hey Scotty, what is your opinion on lowered vehicles?
It says 27 replies but none show up
Lifts have changed a great deal over the past few years....any decent kit will keep all the angles the same as the factory set them. But then again, every major truck manufacturer is now offering full size trucks lifted up to 6" out the door AND covering them with the same factory warranty that would be offered in the stock form....So, Not dumb to lift a truck when done right. Sure, a cheap lift installed by a DIYer could result in accelerated wear of drivetrain components...sure if the shocks & springs are not upgraded with the lift, the ride quality will be poor...sure the trans, Differentials, Transfer Case, ect. Can be damaged if NOT re geared to accommodate larger tires....And yes, you will also see decreased gas mileage if the ECM is not tuned.....BUT, These are things that are involved in doing a PROPER Lift. So once again, when done the right way....The truck will last just as long lifted as it would last in the stock form. This video was really unnecessary.
What about a 2 inch leveling kit? I was thinking about installing a “top strut” spacer on my 2012 Silverado z71. I am keeping the stock rims a tire size.
Spacers are not a real lift , it's cheap and does give a lift. But it does nothing to keep the angles correct and that's what scotty is referring to about wearing out parts and breaking them. Just spend the money on a BDS real suspension lift and the ride will also be better. They make one in a 2inch lift .
Wow ! Spacers aren't a real lift ! Trucks with sissy parts from a front wheel drive car isn't a real truck either ! Most MEN don't buy a truck for the ride either ! 2500 3" spacer 35/12.50/18 x10 ! Won't put no 35 under gm product with 3" inches of lift, spacer ,or body lift ! Maybe 3" body and 4" suspension ? Then u won't b able lock it in 4wd because turning over a set 35's b way to much on the sissy car tie rods ! Snap pop call the tow truck and the parts store !
Scotty I bet u were the craziest dude in Vietnam n I mean that in a good way!!
A good lift kit takes into account the changes in geometry and only an idiot would lift a vehicle and not realign it.
Exaaaactly
Lots of idiots out there and even the ones who do the alignment correctly NEVER ever think to adjust the goddamned headlights.
IcantSignIn Lots of people that perform the job don't realize that it's a project. Projects demand things, as you have stated, such as headlamp adjustment...
I'm not a master by any sense. But, your sense of headlamp adjustment stands for reason... I certainly wouldn't have thought of it, and it is something to seriously keep in mind, seemingly.
My trucks got IFS. Diff was dropped so front drive line is at stock angle. Rears just lifted with blocks. So rear diff angle is the same. Nearly Everything else is unaffected. The only thing at a crap angle is the rear prop. But UJs are cheap and easy to change. I just make sure they packed full of grease often. Not all lift kits are half assed.
Drive a lifted truck for several years as a daily and chances are your ankles will feel it 😁 Whats the point of dropping thousands and thousands of dollars at it and having it gather dust not using it often...
If your lifting your truck just for looks, then push off. But Jeeps and other well supported 4x4s are nearly full proof with the correct parts.
My first time seeing the old intro. This guy is a stud
As I watch this I am planning to put 4 inch suspension and body lift on an F250 diesel pickup.
Jesus you'll go from 10 mpg to 5
JB the Stoner nah. It’s a diesel I’d say maybe 10-15mpg
What year and engine? Just got my 96 7.3 and im going to get that some bigger tires soon. Do love the OBS's.
Very good analysis, the original design is lost. thanks for advise!
2k people got offended
it's at 4k now
Its 5k now
Love the Stingray!
Good, accurate points made by Scotty on detriments of a cheap lift...probably not the best approach.
now I'm not sure where you live but where I live we use our trucks for more than just getting places they're used for work and a lift can really help with clearance sometimes same with the big tires
The Same Thing Goes For Lowering Too.
I lifted my 84 Bronco 20 years ago. 4 inch Tuff Country kit with 33 inch mudders. I had the rear driveshaft extended to increase travel length. I welded new spring perches to correct pinion angle. It has the Dana 44 ttb front axle so I dropped the radius arms and installed Jeffs bronco graveyard adjustable camber bushings to correct the front angles. I did the math and ordered correct length shocks for maxium travel with no bottoming out. Extended brake lines. I also replaced the axle bushings when the front axle was out and installed all moog suspension parts. The truck still runs strong without any issues. I have taken it on 2-5000 mile roundtrips without any issues. If you lift a truck and do it correctly you will have no issues. Just dont lift too much. I have never even spit a single u-joint. Would I do it again? probably not, cuz now I go off roading with the atv.
i only have a 3 inch lift but i carry u joints and the tools to install them every where i go
im gonna weld my differential together now so i can drift my bmw e46 m3
a E46 M3 has a LSD( limited slip diff..) stock ;-)
Dumb video, if you do it right you can eliminate all of these issues. My buddys 06 Duramax has the CV joints straight from axle to hub on a 4-6'' Cognito lift. He has Cognito UCAs, heavy duty tie rods, tie rod sleeves, everything to eliminate these problems.
True, but he brings up several valid points that many people who lift their trucks for the looks don't consider. Your friend did some research, and lifting his truck was still worth it to him. To me, the added off road performance outweighs the higher center of gravity, worse drivetrain geometry, decreased stopping distance and cost that it adds to my maintenance. If this video dissuades one person from turning their truck into a pavement pounding poser-mobile, then I am glad it is on CZcams.
He is right TD, and you are as well, however you are basically talking about rebuilding a truck to run normally with a lift.
This truck looks like it got a basic low buck lift that will "get you down the road", IFS is already a fail attempting to lift it, so please don't argue that with me.
he is simple ...do it the professional way and no problems it is not dumb like he said ..u can lift any truck but do it right
exactly. but most People take shortcuts and dont do it right...
Good lift kits have diff drop brackets that keep the cv
Angles in check
You get what you pay for. It’s 2018 the lift kits have come a long way.
But it's the same jerkoffs lifting their trucks to drive on the street.
electricamir248 it’s their money.. Why hate?
As if we had vehicle codes and bumper height requirements for a reason. Most cops don't enforce vehicle codes, especially noise.
electricamir248 Why do you care so much? If somebody wants a loud exhaust on their car let em do it. You must not have much fun in life if a loud exhaust makes you mad.
@@jacobn3160 I've been woken up at 3am too many times. I have bikes that are fun with stock exhaust. You don't need to be a nuisance to other people, to have fun.
