      I don't know maybe the right to have equal pay, women still make 77 cents to every dollar a man makes. 62 Million girls around the world are denied an education because of their gender. 4 out of 5 victims of human trafficking are female. One in five women on college campuses experience some kind of sexual assault. Do not mistake this as me claiming that men do not also have it rough, I am just pointing out the flaws in our society. Because yes their are flaws in our society and specifically ones that have to do with gender inequality. I feel that it would do you and all the women in your life to educate yourself on them.

I was sort of just making a offhanded comment. And there's nothing wrong with progressive ideas either. I think it's a good thing to grow with your society and try to understand other people. That being said, I'm not here to get into arguments :) I just wanted to compliment a nice guy.

    • @camrnjurena
      @camrnjurena Před 8 lety +15

      +Proquer Feminist means you think the genders should be equal, not that women have to be elevated above men, or that women are the only ones with problems. I'm not saying all feminists agree with that, but feminism just means that you think men and woman should be equal, that's all. Nothing more, nothing less. Yes, people who claim to be feminists say a lot and put an idea of feminism into peoples brains that's not true. But that happens with everything. Religions and anything with a societal view to it is gonna have extremes and moderates.

    • @kruuuuune
      @kruuuuune Před 8 lety +13

      +Proquer Feminism is called feminism, because, yes, its about the equality of the sexes, it also recognizes that women need the most attention. Because of how women have historically been oppressed and told to stand behind men. I'm a feminist and i believe that there are certain mens rights issues worth discussing, but almost all of those issues leads back to misogyny. and how society views men and how society views women. feminism helps men
      as a male feminist this text explains it perfectly for me, why mra and egalitarians don't solve anything for men.
      MRAs believe that feminists are to blame for basically everything that's wrong with their lives. The Men's Rights Movement is a reactionary movement created specifically to counter feminism, and most (if not all) of their time and resources go towards silencing and marginalizing women.
      They do things like starting the Don't Be That Girl campaign, a campaign that accuses women of making false rape reports. They attend feminist events in order to bully and intimidate women, they flood online feminist spaces with threatening messages, and they regularly use smear campaigns and scare tactics to make the women who don't back down afraid for their physical safety. They do literally nothing to actually resolve the problems that they claim to care about, and instead do everything they can to discredit the feminist movement.
      here are certainly issues that disproportionately affect men -- the suicide rate among men is higher, as is the rate of homelessness. Men are more likely to be injured or killed on the job or because of violence. Men who are the victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault are less likely to report these things. These are the issues that MRAs are purportedly working on, and by "working on" I mean "blaming feminism for."
      The problem is that none of these things are caused by feminism, or equal rights for women, or anything like that. You know what's actually to blame for a lot of these issues? Marginalizing forces like class and race, for one thing. I mean, it's not rich white men who are grappling with homelessness or dangerous workplaces or gun violence. You know what else is to blame? Our patriarchal culture and its strictly enforced gender roles which, hey, happens to be exactly the same power structure that feminism is trying to take down.

    • @Proquer
      @Proquer Před 8 lety +1

      camrnjurena Why not go a step above that and be an egalitarian, meaning that all people regardless of sex, color, sexual orientation or religion should be treated equally. There is discrimination against all kinds of people all over the world. Why single it down to men and women?

    • @giygas79
      @giygas79 Před 8 lety +5

      +MichR Feminists on my campus almost made my friend kill himself after he was falsely accused of rape (because ALWAYS believe the accuser). I know he was falsely accused because I was playing video games with him when he was supposed to be raping her.
      Feminism is about the rejection of empathy and logic, the embracing of complacent ignorance and at worst, vile hatred.

But that kind of slow change only occurs when you have movements like feminism to bring those unjust inequalities to light in the first place. Sure, it doesn't automatically make things better immediately, but I think it's sure as hell an improvement from the way women were seen in the 60s. That kind of progress occurs because of feminism.

    My only gripe with feminism is that it's supposed to be something for gender equality but even in it's name there are "feminine" connotations, and that's easily misunderstood to make many feminists not equality activists but interested in empowering women only, or solely focusing on women, or believing that sexism only works in one way, which is not true. Not saying that women is not vastly unequal to men on a whole, but sexism does work both ways, and what some "feminists" usually do that's not about gender equality (like blaming men in general, making men the enemy, belittling the sexism that men experiences, an extreme example would be one woman I saw in a video saying that men can't be raped) along with the connotation itself makes people become anti-feminists, which are usually just as bad or maybe worse. In my opinion, feminists and MRAs should be on the same side and work under the banner of general gender equality.

    • @Luna_Anonymous

    • @unfig3034
      @unfig3034 Před 7 lety +5

      Anony - Mouse That thought is too simplistic in my opinion. The situation in real life is far more complex. Sexism, arguably to a degree, works both ways, such as a man being expected to be successful and to be supporting the family whilst those who choose to stay at home like housewives are often looked down upon in many societies. There's also the case that a lot of people think all rapists are men and male rape victims aren't taken seriously. There's also small things like how it's okay for women to wear manly pants yet men can't wear skirts publicly without being looked down upon. Good feminists will acknowledge these problems and perhaps say that they are also the product of the patriarchy and that feminism is also here to eradicate that, but as I explained and you somewhat confirm by your comment, this is not immediately apparent and can cause people to think that feminism's purpose is to just empower women, while many argue that it's actual goal is for gender equality.
      Is sexism worse on average against women? Arguably yes. Do women experience more sexism on average? Arguably yes. Does sexism only happen to women? evidently no.
      It's fine to argue that, as women are more unequal on average, we should devote more resources to making them equal, but that doesn't mean we should ignore sexism against men either, however small you think it is.

    • @Jennyfisch
      @Jennyfisch Před 7 lety +2

      Here's the thing. I think we can all agree that up until few decades ago women were suppressed. When there is a major shift in society it can swing the other way for a while, at least a little bit, and at least in some areas, and that's what's happening now I think. I'm not saying it's good or right, but it's what happens I think. And maybe that just says that we really are on the way to equality.
      That's just us over here, mind you. I get sick to my stomach when hollywood stars cry about their million dollar wages when they could really take a stand about genital mutilation or child marriages.

      Dude. You can't paint all feminists the same colour. As in any social movement, there are radicals (with whom I don't agree by the way), and they tend to be the loudest and especially the most depicted in any form of media. That amounts to the same as painting all muslims as shariah-enforcing bigots, doesn't it? Feminism is just giving women the rights and tools to be equal to men in both the general public opinion and in their professional and personal lives. End of story. It's not about man-shaming, nor is it about all caps rage posting on the internet about cis scum bullshit. It's just about humans treating each other as equals, and you'll find that most feminists are not feminazis, but level-headed men and women who believe in treating everyone equally.

    • @wisdomball4584

    • @pkdrumzs
      @pkdrumzs Před 7 lety +9

      Noah Smoot I get your point. It is frustrating that no one seems to stand up for the reasonable, level-headed approach on feminism. I think feminism would benefit greatly from dissociating from angry, spiteful women who use this movement to vent frustration. However, two things:
      1) I don't think that feminist values are represented by these people, as they are spiteful. Just as American values cannot be represented by the one idiot singled out by reporters at a Trump/Hillary rally to prove a point. Just as Christian values cannot be represented by the excesses of the Church. Men and women are fallible, and we tend to focus on the ugly rather than the good. Feminazis are not a representative painting of feminist values, and are detrimental to the feminist movement.
      2) There is no Central Bureau of Feminism. There is no one organisation to condone or reprimand the actions of one another. It is an ideology, not a political party or organized religion. Therefore, it is difficult for a coherent message to get accross and only the loud-mouths get showcased, unfortunately propagating a distorted vision of what gender equality is.
      Wow, that was long-winded. I hope you see what I mean and won't dissociate from feminism due to insufferable, angry, spiteful women who deformed the public opinion of feminism.

    • @GentleEsther
      @GentleEsther Před 7 lety

      You know, I don't think just saying "well these crazies don't represent us" would be the right thing, nor effective. Because the "feminist movement" actually has had people come out and say "that's now what we're about" but they're the ones who are overlooked. I know Emma Watson did it big recently and ppl dont even talk about that. I know Laci green did it after she came out as a feminist. I remember the hated Anita Sarkeesian saying it. I remember Lawrence talking about it. I remember clearly all of these big names that are a prt of the "feminist movement" that have had no effect on people (such as yourself) saying that the true picture of feminism is the crazies. And even day to day, my very firm feminist friends will demonstrate what feminism is about.
      That being said, again: saying "those people don't represent feminism" or "this is what feminism really is" doesn't work apparently. And painting those others as crazy isn't the way to validate feminism anyway, (my opinion). And then trying to completely disassociate from the crazies is very deflective in my eyes. It's trying to find another enemy for the antifeminists to target and not fixing the core issue for antifeminists as well as anti-male female supremacists.
