    Watching this made it seem actually doable, my FJ frame is shot and I told people I know I plan on replacing the frame and even the one who had a career being a mechanic made it seem impossible and pushed me away from the idea, looking forward to a fun time! Thank you!

      It is fairly easy. Hardest part is fixing the body on jack stands and sliding frame in and out. Go for it! good luck

    19 dislikes = 19 workshops who were biting their fingers over the fact this man did all of this on his own and didn't give them a chance to rip him off. Well done! looks 10 times better with the blacked out silvers and the 33's. I'd go the extra foot and paint the door handles and mirrors. Handles can be bough of amazon, search for Dorman Tundra handles.

    I have a 2007 FJ. I bought it new. It’s now 2023 with over 247,000 miles. I live down south near Houston, just 8 miles from the bay (Salt Water). My frame has very, very little surface rust, and only in a very few places. I’ve seen frames like yours from places where they salt roads. Someone didn’t maintain their frame in your case. The owner has a certain obligation to care for his vehicle. It’s no different from any other vehicle. My son owns a Jeep (Willy). He bought it from up north, but also lives by the bay (Very near). I’ve seen a lot of rusting areas on his. You must find a lot of value in the FJ to go to the extremes you did. Excellent job by the way!

    Mines at 280,000 miles, everything brand new under it again. Lived it's whole life on wide 35 mudders. Crossed the country and back for work well over a couple dozen times, come back to Alabama, straight to the woods. I'll never get rid of it. So much custom shop work of my own. So much extra power, torque. Love it. Goes anywhere. Faster than a hemi 2 door until top end. Basically a daily driver side by side i work out of lol
    Found my root problem today. Apparently they get frame rot. Gravity is holding the motor and shocks both in right now. Cracked welds everywhere. Apparently 1.5 million frames like this were recalled. I just found out, and think I missed the window.
    Do you know anything about this?
    I just rebuilt the whole thing new again chasing problems and then find this out.... So im like fix it obviously, but how. Recall or fab it all myself. But then, how to coat the inside of a fully boxed frame you just welded

    I suspect given the state of my 98k 07 fj that I will be doing this in a couple of years. Toyota really dropped the ball with these frames, they all rot prematurely. It really is to bad they haven't done anything to fix this.
    When I do mine I plan on ding the suspension and long travel arms. I think I will do what you did and buy a frame and mount it after I have all the bottom parts mounted to it. I want to change out my rear axle & drive shaft with the 10+ because I've been told they last a lot longer. Mine is on it's second rear gear set.

    Very good video and a quality job guys. Looks to me like you did it right and in only 4 days...WOW. I just did the frames on both my FJ's but on the vehicle. Both frames were in pretty good shape but it still took me about a month (burned through 2 weeks vacation) since I am very particular. I basically did it the same way you did with a rust encapsulated paint but added a top coat on the outside and used fluid film inside. Did you use anything inside the frame? I learned a lot of tricks the hard way but with annual inspections I expect both FJ's to outlive me.

My frame was rusted and I replaced it I have the title from the new frame in in boise Idaho and I’m trying not to get a branded title because of that . • @tokodavadze
      @tokodavadze  Před 17 dny

      I guess you asked wrong questions in DMV and now they're asking you to do unnecessary procedures. You could grind off whole VIN and nobody would check, as long as body has original VIN. Some countries ask for proof of receipt for parts if you export the vehicle with different VIN parts, but never heard of it in US. If you replace door or any other body panel with different VIN, I don't think you have to get 2 VINs in title for that, same goes for frame. It's just another replacement part

      @lyric.kayden Před 3 lety

      Eric it doesn’t matter whether it’s a Toyota, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Nissan or whatever. This is mostly due to road salt and chem used to treat roads in the rust belt/northeast. Don’t be a fool and blame Toyota and say it’s something they Toyota should have covered. I’ve seen just as many Chevy’s and Dodge trucks with the same issue. You think Chevy, Dodge, Ford and Chrysler should replace all the crap they make that rust just as well? This FJ Cruiser like most Toyota’s is worth more at 15 years old than a Chevy/Dodge/Chrysler at 3-5 years old. I’ve seen numerous Dodge trucks with rusted frame, rusted wheel wells, and beds falling off. I’ve seen Ford and Chrysler just the same. You can’t go blame others in life for your issues. I guess a fat person should have McDonald’s cover their medical bills and weight loss surgery for being overweight huh? C’mon. Please don’t be a fool, poison others thoughts/impressions and just think a little sometimes. It’s not just Toyota, it’s any vehicle in the rust belt/northeast or a vehicle that was never cleaned and abused.

    TOYOTA take notice how we FJ owners have to fix your continuous frame mistakes. We expect this poor rust prevention from some of our American counterparts, but seriously a class action law suite shouldn't be needed to fix a safety issue of this magnitude like it did for some of the other full frame Toyota vehicles. Step up to the plate and recall the frame problems on your own and announce a rust prevention plan. Perhaps something like a dealer undercoating/inspection process for those of us stuck in the rust belt. I know business is all about making disposable items but this is really a safety issue.

    • @carlstoutamire9525
      @carlstoutamire9525 Před 5 lety +1

      Seriously Toyota will "NEVER" admit to a mistake it is un-Japanese. Seeing this is really sad because I have always wanted a FJ Cruiser and after learning about some of the serious problems I am beginning to rethink the whole idea. I know it is cool and it can do a lot of great things for a while and have fun, but this vehicle is not built to last period without going to extreme measures. I do not think replacing a frame on a 10 year old car is reasonable unless it was used in a salt mine or it fell off the ship from Japan and floated ashore after being submerged for a year. That frame has no rust protection and even the bolts are crused with rust.
      The sad thing is based on what I have seen from other videos if anyone points out any obvious problem with a Toyota they are instanly branded the devil. Like I said I really did want one of these but my opinion has been tarnished just about as much as that frame was RUSTED!!!

      @@carlstoutamire9525 I SOOOO agree with you, it's time they MAN up. I even called Toyota because of my 2000 Tundra frame issue and asked them if they were going to recall the FJ frames prior to buying one. The Tundra half-ass fix really pissed me off since they addressed the frame (half-ass) and not even the bed mounting brackets. Once you take it in for the frame recall then it's your problem (that's another problem I have, especially since the frame rusts from the inside out). I had a Toyota bed liner and didn't see the problem until I heard crunching inside the bed. They could have at least told me at the dealer when they had the truck for several days. I lost a few thousand on the truck due to that minor rust that turned into a major problem.
      Basically Toyota said no on the FJ recall and it's up to the customer to periodically inspect and clean the underneath. Who in hell does that and how do you inspect and clean the inside of the frame from rusting inside out? That's a sad excuse to present as a customer liability. As I pointed out to them then why are there several recalls on similar full frame vehicles? I have since bought 2 FJ's used but one was super clean underneath from southern Virginia and the other had much less then common rust for my area. I spent several weeks taking care of the rust the right way. A local used Toyota dealer said they could have an FJ undercoated for me the next day for an additional $800 (it had some pretty major rust). No thanks Charlie I've been though your half-ass undercoating job. It's a scammers market and for decades I have now Dodged the American junk but now Toyota is loosing face with me.

      Right on man. I've had my FJ for six years now and the noises from the suspension are only getting louder. I'm sure the finish on the frame has allot to do with it. The sad part about this whole thing is that I hardly ever wheel off-road with it and I don't even live in a salt zone or a snow state. I never heard of anything like this. Usually all-terrain vehicles designed for off-roading are suited to handle an environment of all climates. One would think such a preventable problem would've been handled early on by Toyota after their first batch of FJs were sold. It's flat out neglect on their part.

    Unless you fully coated the inside of the boxed frame it’s just going to rust from the inside out. Sorry man but that’s the truth.

    I owned a 2000 tundra that I purchased brand new. It like all toyota junk the frame rusted out and the local dealers would do nothing about it. I repaired it best I could and sold the POS and will never purchase another toyota ever again!

    Why.....somebody...tell me why.... If you're willing to do all of *that* work, why not take an extra 15 friggin' minutes to box the ends of those body mount cuts? FFS....it's like $5 worth of sheetmetal. Death wheels, grinders and mig welders are cheap. This makes absolutely no sense to me....
