GREAT video, my brothers! It's all about the Spirit behind the music. And I'm pretty sure I know the Spirit behind your music!

I love this content, guys. The author of the music is God. When someone singing through the Holy Spirit, all is pure!

This is a great video! Thank you for being willing to ask this question. Sadly, I think the answer to this question is a big YES and the issues are much more deeply rooted. So many writers of worship music are being influenced by so many of the same huge names in worship music, and that's problem number one - that these people are given such fame and stardom and influence but also that we have a tendency to idolize these people, and naturally recreate their material.

What a rich subject! In "latu sensus" I see worship as a way of living found since Adam, with or without spoken words. And maybe to preserve the homogeneity of gathering's praises we should yes prioritize the congregational songs, depending of course on who's being the congregation at the moment ;)

I think the highlight of the episode for me was hearing the random placement of the distorted Windows XP boot up sound. That came out of nowhere and caught me completely off guard, but I cherished it greatly.

Love that you guys are just talking about these subjects at least. We'll see how the genre thing shapes out over the next few decades!

Great conversation! I have a question, what space (if any) should there be in churches for artistic expresions that fall out of congregational together activities? So like hip-hop during a sunday service, or punk rock? Cause the issue could be that it would tend to maybe alianate some people, and yet that could be a genuine expresion of worship from some people. So like where is the balance? Should they have space in any church activity and if so what would that look like for your common local church? Just questions I ask myself as an artist. I dont asume to have all the answers. God bless you and guide in these important conversations. Cool to see people doing that :)

I think if I have any issue with worship music, it's more around the way CCM/Christian Music/Worship are handled by the radio (in the US at least). Namely, that they blend Worship with all other Christian music. I get it sorta, cause I'm sure the audience overlaps, right? But like, I feel like worship music, and just plain old music -- by Christians, are fairly different lanes (or that they should be). I think blending the two does weird things to both. I feel like it elevates a praise song, into a pop song - which feels weird with the typical simple repetitive choruses or modern worship etc. Likewise, I think it lowers, or perhaps limits what other non-worship music can be played side by side. Like, you will nearly NEVER hear a Christian hip hop tune, or something fairly heavy, or indy because I think back to back with a live worship slow-jam...I mean...you just can't do that. I don't know of anything else really like this.

Great chat guys! Another question perhaps is, is there too much emphasis on sung worship to the extent that worship can only be singing?

Worship is a *function*, not merely a descriptive category in a genre sense. I mean many genres could be used for the worship function.
