Is productivity the enemy of creativity? (feat. WYLD)

  • In this episode of the Magnify Studio podcast we look at what it means to be productive as a creative person. Creative people are typically more go with the flow, spontaneous people - and often our best creative work comes from the "idle" times. But does that mean that creativity is anti-productivity? Or is there actually a way to be really productive and have great rhythms and structures in place, as a creative person?

Totally get how un-productive it can feel like as a creative! This was really comforting to hear honestly, how common this problem is 😅 I mean, as creatives, esp Christian creatives, we kind of work differently from the world. Rather than just producing lots output, I feel like we have to experience life with God first, and have /that/ be reflected in our art. Whether that means living life with family, in relationships, go through our problems, etc.
But also in terms of productivity, I wanna affirm what Jonathan was doing! I found it to be useful for me as well--doing a weekly and monthly review is crucial, especially if you have no one else to report to (in my case, it's reporting to God haha). That's what companies do anyway: Looking through the highlights of the week, problems encountered, improvements to implement, then top 3 goals for the next week. Then when I come back the next week for another review, see if I've done those 3 goals, and try to understand why if I didn't.
Loved this pod you guys! It's so hilarious it's depressing

Great episode, I had to grin all the time.😁
On topic, I would say who is the more creative and at the same time the more productive person in all the creation? Who is our role model? Who are we supposed to emulate? That's right, Jesus. God rested, but first He worked, and still does.
Even if you are gifted with talent by God, works of art do not fall from heaven, but must emerge through work, and the purpose of work is ultimately to produce something lasting and valuable. So creativity and productivity go hand in hand. But you already know all this yourselves. You are doing great! 👍✨

I think having at least some kind of sabbath rest, probably increases productivity and creativity.

I agree with Nils, as if productivity were the rails where the fast train of creativity runs to meet a goal. Otherwise it could be wasted. 🚂
