You are more transparent than you think - Sajan Saini

- Discover how scientists are using light and integrated photonics technology to create medical devices that can diagnose illness.
--
It’s an increasingly common sight in hospitals around the world: a nurse measures our height, weight, blood pressure, and attaches a glowing plastic clip to our finger. Suddenly, a digital screen reads out the oxygen level in our bloodstream. How did that happen? Sajan Saini shows how pairing light with integrated photonics is leading to new medical technologies and less invasive diagnostic tools.

Is it just me or is Ted Ed uploading more frequently? Which is an amazing thing because it means I learn even more amazing things.
Hi Hyun Seok Ryu! Thanks for the kind compliment! We actually upload new videos 2 to 3 times per week, 51 weeks out of the year. :) The best way to make sure you don't miss a video is to turn on notifications by clicking on the bell.
@@TEDEd I've already pressed the bell notification way before! :)

At 4:30 there is an illusion. Some circles appear like polygons!
They all look like circles to me.
I see it! That’s so cool.
So I’m not the only one who sees that 😅😅😅

I really thought this refers to the deeper meaning of being "transparent" actually. Turns out it's completely literal and scientific and I'm here for it. It's TED-Ed!
Thanks for another awesome video. I absolutely love your animations!
@Snokkie Smith Thanks for the correction
Holy fish moly, I love this channel. Education for the win.

Damn, that quote in the beginning was deep af.
I had to restart the video to fully grasp it.. The more you know, the more you realize you don't know... Impressive wording from Einstein..

I’m a Biomedical Engineer and I am very pleased with this video! It is actually very informative and I’ve learned something new!
Thank you for this great content
I am studying biochemistry so this video is very informative for me thank you ted- ed for this .....love from INDIA...🤗😊
When he said put a flashlight to your thumb, I actually paused the video on my phone, turned on flashlight, and tested it.
Very important question. Can you see your bones in your fingers?
I looked pictures up and most if not all pictures showing what I wanted you couldn't see, like, bones? Or maybe those one things are bones but they look like they're the veins but WHAT.
I guess my bones are too close to the skin to see them compared to the skin but it's freaking me out because I would think that I would be able to see my BONES.
Me too!
Yea me to 😂
QUESTION: could these saliva💧 read-outs give accurate blood-sugar readings, thus removing the need for diabetics to draw blood on a DAILY basis?
Hopefully one day in the future we maybe able to do that, right now we have many other beautiful technology like micro needle etc.
i think having blood in your saliva is a whole other problem...
Maybe.
Upon reading the title I thought that it would be a video exploring the psychological tranparency of the human mind and our habits and how we are actually more readable/predictable than we like to think.
The narrator's voice is so good, I'd hear him talk about anything.
Thanks for explaining stuff like these in such a simple and interesting way!☺
I love TED-Ed videos not only for the animations but mainly for the useful knowledge it gives,
This is why we have to support scientists, inventors and doctors more.

Ted Ed makes learning so much easier because it shows fun visuals that help you understand of trying to explain a concept with no examples.

That sad feeling when you can’t relate to the pulse oximeter experience coz your hospital has none. But great video!
Maybe the condition you went to the hospital for does not require your oxygen level 🙄
@@tonicrvnts Through my experience, every time you go to the hospital you have to know the oxygen level before doing anything else on the hospital.

Wow what a great educational video... I never thought that light could be that much useful. Maybe we could use light to travel at speed of light.
My makeup shade is called “translucent” and I can see all my veins through my skin, so yeah makes sense.
It amazes me how we are inventing these things. Who knows what the future will be like? Things like these sometime terrify me of what humans can do
