Rikki Schlott created an Instagram account when she was 11. She now says she feels the app - and the pressure to post perfection - stole parts of her childhood.
As Facebook comes under fire for the impact its apps can have on teens, experts explain how algorithms have made social media the new “drug of choice”.

I'm 21 and the only social media that I use is CZcams. I can't imagine how hard it may be for some people to disconnect. It really seems like social media is truly addictive.

Personally I’m 24 and I literally use instagram for connecting with people I meet on night outs, festivals, house parties etc. Might share the odd holiday pic and that’s about it.

A huge number of us of any age can fall into unhealthy patterns of social media addiction. My concern for our Gen Z citizens is that unlike every previous generation they have never experienced a time where 24/7 device immersion was not the norm.
Eh I wouldn’t say the entirety of Gen Z. Early Gen Z in my opinion, we’re like the last ones to have truly had a childhood life.

Unfortunately, Social Media became a necessity to people.
From my pov, it really depends on the person, who you are following and things like that. For me, social media helped me overcome some insecurities and helped me accept myself the way I am. If you follow models and things like that, it's obvious you're gonna be constantly exposed to their perfect photos and you'll then end up comparing yourselves.
Honestly, it’s not the job of government and media to change Facebook’s ways. It’s up to parents to monitor their kids tech use and set healthy boundaries.

I find social media really addictive and was just facing this this past week.( been on it for about a year???) This report has really helped me, an answer to prayer.Especially the 3 Cs.
The issue is modern education and jobs don’t allow you to quit. Social media is now like food- you can get addicted but actually can’t cut it completely out!
I would love to delete Facebook but it’s required for university and work, same with almost all the social media I use. It’s how information is disseminated and without it you miss deadlines

I got insta at 11. I used to not care what other think of me now I do. I really regret it as I now struggle with body/facial image daily

The oldest gen z is born in 97...we were kids when twitter, Instagram, myspace etc popped off. i was 10 in 07... generations before us was getting hooked in that shit and passed it down to us. Bruh 70s babies literally been addicted to social media longer than us late 90s babies😂they still on social media. Parents are not taking accountability.

Today I disabled Facebook and uninstalled Instagram on my phone. Will only access them on desktop or laptop.

At least nobody in the USA and Europe would try to force you to use Instagram. In some parts of Asia you are seen as an outcast if you refuse to add people on their local social media. Despite all their flaws, the USA and Europe are still more civilised than other parts of the world.

I think Tik Tok is deplorable. There are so many videos of girls in their teens and twenties on there with a lot of "risqué" content. Seems like it could be a case of low self-esteem and self worth that they would put themselves out there like that. Or maybe they just get off all the attention and likes on their channel. But sad nonetheless.
