Managers have a huge impact on your success. I agree with this completely.
even on the surface it makes sense. managers can inspire and teach you.
Whose success?
Legend says when people leave company they are basically trying to change manager.
exactly
@@rahuls4924 true. Heard the same

Good managers and mentors are so helpful not just for career but general MENTAL HEALTH.
I hate my managers with a passion
tell your story😂you must have a story about it
Yes, I am curious too. 🙂
as a manager u need to be straight otherwise ur employees won't do their job right
What an amazing manager! She's the kind you always dream of but never actually get to have in real life. You two are amazing ladies and we are learning a lot from you both. Thank you for sharing this. 💖
I've had such good impressions about Netflix by just hearing employees talk about their work environment. I listen to Frontend Happy Hour and all the stories make it sound like such a great place to work. I'm not skilled enough to apply yet though. Maybe in a few years :)
I love this video! It really shows your passion for and direct impact in helping the tech world improve especially in their diversity (which is what attracted me to your channel in the first place). It’s so cool that your former manager was equally passionate and championed this alongside you. Very inspiring stuff!
Wonderful conversation Mayuko. Thanks for shared.
Happy for you ma'am, thanks for your wonderful help during all this time. 😊
Even my managers and tech team at Walmart is super helpful. 👌
Tech is a wonderful world.
Can you please tell me how you got the job at Walmart, how do you stay Consistent when learning.?

Thanks to all 👍🏼😊
I would recommend watching them with english subtitles. It can help you r reading comprehension.

managers and mentors are so important in somes grow both professionally and personally
I request you to make a video on what to talk to your manager in tech . Like a 1:1 with manager , what to ask what can or cannot we talk about. I have always found it very difficult to talk to manager.
Wow what an amazing manager. She seems to have a true full spectrum of care for her employees and that is SO important
Yes, leadership is everything.
Maybe it's worth mentioning that I don't work at Netflix anymore 😅I guess this _was_ my favorite part about working at Netflix, but that makes for a clunky video title. I left about a year ago, and ICYMI the video where I explain why: czcams.com/video/r11YBPUwQhk/video.html
@@theNimboo did you watch the video?
@@ambadiritik8258I feel Mayuko lacks clarity, creativity. She just want to make content but does not really have any.
There is so much more to life than tech.
This interview looked semi cosmetic. All happy answers.
@mayuko what was the worst part working in netflix ? What they can improve. #realanswers #bereal #truth
You guys really need to relax, I find these videos super insightful and helpful as someone who already works in tech and I felt the same before I worked in tech. If you feel the content isn't for you that's fine, but I feel she goes out of her way to make honest and generally positive content so if you don't vibe with it for whatever reason, them find someone else as opposed to just being an asshole
@@jazbaz100 no one said content is not insightful.
If you look at the big picture its like a girl starting carrer in tech leaves her job. Says hustle culture is not for her. And then make videos on how previous managers were so supportive in that hustle culture.
Someone may ask if they were so helpful then why left tech?
If you left tech then move on, there is so much to life.
Also when interviews sounds so perfect I get fake vibes. Listen to netflix cto podcast to know the real culture of netflix tech. It was called "managing chaos". That guy looked like he can use 1 month of good sleep. #awarness #commonsense #getmature
I love how you still maintain your relationships with former bosses! That’s so wholesome :)
Love your videos! So excited for this one😁🤗
such a great conversation! awesome video!
I wish I had someone as understanding as Jordanna as my manager 😅 Especially the importance of mental health in tech is a topic that is so overlooked. Thanks Mayuko for showing this some more attention 😊
Jordanna is great! 👏👏👏
Thanks, Muko, for sharing your career path with your fans. Good luck and congrats with your new job at Netflix!
I was looking for 10min break. Nice timing
i liked your manager , you must be sharing amazing bond to have her here.
I've noticed that there are a lot of viewers on your livestreams and videos that are new to coding (like me). In the spirit of what you spoke about in this video, I think it could be cool to do one of your livestreams on self care and common struggles for beginners.
My Manager helped me out a lot during tough times (my son was born with two problems in his heart) so I had to go to the hospital several times, and he was super flexible and kind to me, now we are on separate projects but he is still in touch with me to see how can he help me, also he became my friend and I consider him like a part of my family.
Mayuko this video is amazing.
This insight is really interesting to me! Thank you for doing this :D
You’re so lucky to have found such a supportive and inspiring manager!
Would love to hear more details about that workshop/ team activity you two organized so that people could bring something similar to their teams. Not sure my team would be receptive to this idea though.

I came from Latincoder following his advice!! I need to improve my listening, Hii mayukoo!! im a new follower from Argentina!!
The benefits of having a truly diverse leadership team in startups are part of the reasons why these sort of supportive Managers help employees freely.

Doesn't hurt to open up. Just say something's bothering you. And for the people who listen don't judge and don't be overly-generously. They're not looking for special treatment. Just understanding. Drawing from personal experience with depression, which I'm currently battling.
Very inspiring! I'm currently in coding bootcamp and hopefully I can land a gig with a great leader like Jordanna
This video is gonna blow up!
Nice Mayuko!!

I interviewed either her before and i could tell she was an amazing engineering manager!
Thanks so much for this talk it’s extremely valuable! 🤩
Great managers help create others to be great managers one day. Excellent video!!
experiences will vary depending on people and org. my manager is only looking out for himself, to accomplish that, he has to suck up to his upper echelon. it is what it is.
Like the idea that manager is a big big part of making a job decision!
I cant stop smiling 🙂 while watching the video

When I joined my team in 2018, I was the only woman on a team of 8
3 years later, I'm now 1 of 5 and I 100% contribute that to new management - awesome stuff ✨
@@dll9900 It's just nice to have some people on my team who are more likely to have a similar background and perspective as me 😃 Obviously that's not always the case, and it'd be foolish to get into tech and NOT expect to be the minority in that regard, but it's akin to being the only 20 year old on a team with 40+ year olds. It can just feel a bit alien at times.
I would also like to take a moment to Thank You for another of your wonderful and informative videos Mayuko! Is that some of your artwork up on the wall behind behind you, maybe like of Kona? Sometimes perhaps as you visit with some of your prior managers or HR people, what are their thoughts on older, well way older people, starting or trying to learn coding skills or languages? There needs to be more women in tech!
There are actually lot of women in tech, it is a myth perpetuated by people with certain agenda
@@mefirst5427 agenda? 🤣 it’s just basic statistics
@@alvadagansta You are my exhibit #1, haha
@@mefirst5427 bring your stats, buddy
@@alvadagansta yo any woman can get into tech if they choose to follow a career path in tech..... the reason there r less women in tech than men is coz most women dont choose to follow a career path in tech compared with men who choose to get into tech & thats ok coz its their choice..... just because a certain career path lacks women or men doesnt mean that they arnt hired coz of their gender its because most of them choose not to get into that specific career........ for eg theres more women in healthcare than men... its not that a man cannot be a nurse.... or like 98% of all pilots r men.... but still there are woman pilots..... these r mainly based on gender choice differences , its NOT that theres discrimination against a specific gender to get into a specific field.....
Oh wow, I remember going to that Netflix event where you and Jordanna met! It's been a long time 😂 Thanks for this sneak peek of the interview with Jordanna. Agree that having an empathetic engineering manager is very important -- especially one who realizes that we're not working remotely, but working remotely during a pandemic and high levels of stress.
That Grace Hopper shirt though.
if I were to have a discussion with my former manager like this, it'd be either me cutting him off or him grilling me to death
Nice video ❤️
WOW, she graduated from waterloo almost 20 years ago. she looks so young.
My manager talking about my well-being! Oh what a world that would be!
Thats what families are for. Unfortunately, the liberal world is intentionally destroying families.
@@dunnodatruth789 not everyone has nice families, mine wasn't, and no "liberal" had to destroy it to make it that way.
I'd love to know more about the format of these "vulnerability sessions" is there any more guidance out there I can refer to?
Love the video! What type (font) do you use in your videos?
its so different in tech versus other careers! our managers are just meh!

do you have free access to Netflix?
Are you able to share how you advocated for mental health at Netflix? How did you bring it up to your manager and start the movement?
Is that a Grace Hopper t-shirt you're wearing?
Yo u should ask to add more movies
Michael Scott is the best manager
I am interested in software engineering and I enjoy coding a lot but I am not that good at it. I takes me a while to solve problems. Should I still take it because I am passionate even though I'm not that good?
Your manager is definitely watching....
OMG 😱 You awesome! How'd did you get a job a neflix did you apply online or in person. Interview?
how did you end up w/ jordanna as your manager?
You are working for Netflix now!? Wow!

Sorry for asking an off-topic question. I am an African American single father with a 17 y/o daughter. I have been mentioning tech to her for a while now but she is not having it but I would welcome any ideas. She is going into Nursing after graduating high school next year but it's not her passion. Also, I am a Military Veteran and a 15 year Accountant. No CPA but I am considering Fintech. I will probably do a boot camp at either SMU or Rice University. Would love your thoughts on this as well. Thanks.
