Thanks so much for your honest open play by play. I think your video is going to help me with my project and I want to express my appreciation for the detail….. Happy to share my project details as I go through the process. I’m doing a return SS plate with a really old liner.

You're welcome! Thanks for including me with your project... happy to come along on the ride. Keep me posted on how things progress. Hopefully the old liner won't be an issue.

I have a similar problem with my 26 year old pool. This is a great way to repair my problem too. I might worry about the 'burrs' from the drill bit, getting down along the liner, but think you so much for the video. Even after all this time, you are still helping others. OK, later in the video I hear you are replacing the liner, so .....I am still working on this listening and patience thing.

Thanks @dialdude for your kind words and comment. Yes, I knew that we were going to have to replace the liner as it was old and discolored. After we removed the skimmer and then the beaded part of the liner from the top of the pool wall it was clear that we could have never stretched the liner back out to go around the skimmer in the previous holes because of how much it shrunk. I did use a lot of masking tape around the area where I was drilling to keep the filings and burrs from the drilling area captured as best as I could.

you could use rivets and foam inside. also id recommend sealing the open edges with silicone between two metals.

I actually did the hole job today that you did. Not difficult. Just take your time. I thot it was 100% chance of no leak.
But it is leaking worse. When I shake the skimmer. It really leaks. Very odd 😞

@@thomaskiburis9934 Oh NO.... Yes, it's not really that hard. What kind of condition/how old is your liner? Was it rusty around your skimmer when you cut that part out?

I actually bought a Hayward replacement skimmer. Installed today. Came with a lot of parts. The gasket is single gasket. Raps around hole. I think I like that better. Maybe because it’s not leaking anymore. Lol. I think the old skimmer was happy in its home for the last 20 years. Couldn’t see any defect but kept leaking. Probably a slight imperfection. The new kit was $60. And came with May parts. Hayward SP1091LX Dyna-Skim Above-Ground Pool Skimmer

Hey! Enjoyed the video. Quick question…could you have used the same liner or would you have to replace it?

    • @commonsenseripsomehelpful

Hey David! Thank you for your kind comment and great question! Yes, someone could use the same liner as long as the liner is still in good shape - meaning that it is still flexible and after unbolting the face plate the liner stays in place verses shrinking out of alignment from the face plate holes. You would then bolt the repair plate to the pool wall making sure that the faceplate stays in the exact location as the original and the holes in the liner stay at the exact location. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

What’s the name of this pool

Hmmmmm... great question. I guess I could try to find the paperwork that came with it to find out the name of the pool, but could I ask why that would be of any importance? For example, what would that be in reference to?
