Ron Perlman voices Optimus Primal.
Apelinq is a true brother and a noble warrior to the very end.
The way Optimus Prime easily beat Scourge with his sword makes me think Apelinq could've easily dispatched of Scourge with a few swipes of those blades on his arms. But his animal instincts (jumping around, etc.) cost him dearly. Optimus Prime was clearly more battle-savvy.
Im surprised he didnt maximise and use the blades instead that like maybe he wouldve been more nimble and a smaller target

Honestly, i can see why some people have critics about the film's CGI in comparison to the other previous installments in this franchise, but in certain scenes (like this one), the CGI and overall aesthetics are damn near phenomenal and definitely one of the best use of VFX of this year. (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 also had really good CGI)
It is hit and miss. The quality of many things seem to be trending down the same path these days

@@user-pm6nx1fs2w In the majority of the film, yes, it does look really good, but there some scenes (specially when the transformers interact with the human characters) it does look a "little" out of place and strange. In both 4K Imax screens at the cinemas and streaming devices, it's clear that some of the scenes were definitely rushed.

They had no clue wtf they were doing with this script. Literally darts on a dartboard.
The only reason for this scene is to make Scourge look cool and powerful, what kinda goes out the window at the end

This scene was literally made as a last second choice. The original opening scene would be far more in line with the autobots, specially Optimus. The Maximus would only appear later in the film, but it is a cool scene overall.
Men, that scourge opening scene was totally freakin nostalgia.

I like how in the movie, just as in the cartoon, Optimus starts out as this younger, less experienced leader. The visuals help sell that idea as Apelinq's silver armor and hair make him look older than Primal's black coat and armor.
Colman Domingo as Unicron is so perfect. Shame we didnt get to hear more from him.

It must have not been easy for Apelinq to sacrifice himself so that way his fellow Maximals can live & escape. Dying must have been terrible for Apelinq. But like he said "We rather die then let him reach other Planets" It's better to go down like a Hero then to die in Vein.
Yeah, but it was a completely pointless sacrifice. Scourge didn't follow their ship, he didn't appear to have the ability- so Apelinq could have escaped and survived with the rest of the maximals.🤷

Biggest gripe with this film is the use of the maximals, given the movie title I expected them to be used more usefully. They transform only once at the end even after the battle right back in beast form.

I just realized airazor has the same voice actor as the goat lady in kung fu panda 2
i might have only just noticed but Optimus Primal has a similar roar to Kong in GvK at 0:14 and i find it really interesting considering the fact they are both ape-like creatures. however in contrast, Primal is an experienced fighter with weapons and abilities that allow him to gain more power such as maximising, whilst Kong is just an oversized monkey that is smart, powerful with weapons and has the ability and confidence to fight Godzilla and actually put up a fight (for pretty much only the first quarter or half of the hong kong scene) . but besides from that i like seeing how Primal and Kong could have a potential relationship due to their species being under the primate section and having similar roars, however it is very very unlikely anybody else could relate the two since i am one of the only people who loves these types of movies.

I feel like we aren't going to get one, most people that grew up in the 90s would love to see a film with the focus on the Maximals, but Hasbro and Paramount have made a Fortune with the Michael Bay Transformers franchise, and this New rebooted timeline is not following the same success rate as the other previous installments have.
(Bumblebee 2018 did not make that much money at the box office to be considered a major success and neither did Rise of the Beasts)

I am just stating the fact that both Beast Wars and Bumblebee were both high budget films that unfortunately did not make as much profit such as the Bay Transformers films, even Transformers: The Last Knight failed in the box office. I really hope that Hasbro and Paramount are willing to continue on with the franchise following more on the classic G1 aesthetics and timeline, but since studio executives only care about money, is very unlikely that they will continue on with what Rise of the Beasts is leading into.

And now, Transformers: Rise of The Beasts had a budget of $200 million and it made close to $500 million, it was less that it was expected. These numbers shows that even if the movies are good and are mostly well accepted, they still need to at least pass $700 million or even $800 million at the box office to be considered a success and worth more future projects.

Apelinq did know sooner or later he would die under the hands of scourge or unicron devours the heck planet. And yet he still stay his ground, fight until the end to protect the key and his comrades. It doesn't matter how much time he buy for them. Things that matter at that time are Apelinq is one of the true warrior and leader and finally he didn't lay down his life for nothing.
If there was a Giganotosaurus dinobot named 'Thunderback', he would’ve been the Apelinq of the Dinobots, and he was the leader of the Dinobots before Grimlock.
And if the Maximals and Dinobots were in ROTF, they swore an oath to the Primes to protect the Matrix from the Fallen.

i don't much about Transformers, but if I recall, Unicron has a brother the T-formers' home planet. If Unicron is out there devouring planets, why hasn't his brother "activated" to stop him?
Unicrons brother is Primus. IDK, maybe other do, probably just the writers or direction it's going.
I seem to recall part of the lore was that Unicron either directly or indirectly corrupted Megaton and caused the war between the autobots and the decepticons to effectively poison Primus because of the infighting in the race he created, because the sparks in each transformer is crafted by Primus, it's a piece of himself that he uses to give them life, and having them fighting each other is like having the pieces of himself fighting, kinda like a cancer or making him sick with a virus, so that he would be stuck in status, or be weak enough to not go after his brother. Either that, or the fact that I seem to recall the original fight between Unicron and Primus was so tiring on both of them, but even more so on Primus because he was the weaker 2 of them so Primus was stuck in a deeper state of sleep. Don't quote me on this tho, it's been the longest time since I had my deep dive on transformers deep lore
“Benefits of serving the all mighty Unicron” in case pple don’t know. Scourge gets power from Unicron which is why Scourge is powerful
"ILL BUY YOU SOME TIME" Gets absolutely cooked.

As much as this opening is briefly enough to show the context, villains, and maximals, there are still things I find lacking about this scene:
1. Apelinq being outlived in like 2 seconds after Scourge's 30 seconds entrance monologue when he's supposed to be holding on for like 30 minutes of fighting summarized in 3 minutes. At least give them some more dialogue like Apelinq trying to taunt Scourge even before Scourge blasts his shoulder
2. The maximals galloping towards the escape ship when they're literally miles away and have actually boarded the ship by the time the camera pan from Scourge to the launch tower. You can say that the Maximals have an advance underground transport to get to the launch tower quicker but the movie just doesn't tell
3. There's not enough Maximals to explain what Optimus Primal later in the movie refers to "the others", so as far as the movie presented us basically Primal, Cheetor, and Rhinox left Airazor all on her own with the unseen "others"
4. Since this movie did a good job of not giving Rhinox a chance to speak (they barely could give Cheetor as well), they might as well showed more Maximals as soldier-bots (like the vehicons and the autobot non-character soldiers presented in Bumblebee) without voice lines to intercept Scourge or help Apelinq which then showcase how Scourge could solo a whole gang of Maximals without getting a scratch
5. With all those points considered, this opening sequence could also be a chance to show Nightbird and Battletrap's involvement in this raid like them chasing the rest of the runaway Maximals to the launch tower, given the fact that this scene is the last time they saw the Maximals before the centuries time gap (if the term Transwarping in this universe means that they only travel between galaxies and universes instead of literal time) and Nightbird's reaction and lines when she sees the Maximals again in the museum fight and Peru village scene especially the "Miss me" line to Primal like maybe she was the one who gave him that scar on his right eye. Plus Battletrap could've got more screen time to show why he's named "Battletrap" in that whole chase, even so that his pet dog could've been shown here instead of in the toys, then maybe it dies in this scene that's why we don't see it anymore in the rest of the movie
6. The movie has yet to show nor tell us how the Maximals are more advance than the Cybertronians
7. Optimus vs Transit fight scene could still fit in after the title card by removing his opening monologue even after this opening sequence. It at least could've given us a heads up that Optimus is going to be the mainly focused Autobot in this movie
The transit scene would have been a better explanation as to why Optimus would transform in an open area where any human could walk by

This was by far the shortest fight in transformers history
I’m gonna be honest, I think they should have shown energon spill in this movie. It makes them feel more like a different race than just robots. It doesn’t have to be exaggerated like in Bayformers but it would make these fight scenes slightly better. I mean Scourge blew an entire hole separating Apelinq’s arm from his body, and later he himself has both his arms removed and his head torn off and it’s nothing but just sparks.
Anyone else thought Well damn Ultron is a menace here too. When scourge was coming out the woods. 😂
I love how Apelinq and Optimus Primal have mechanised versions of Kong’s roar from GvK onwards.

I love the way Apelinq lowered his head and took a deep breath when he was prepping for his fight
He knew he was gonna die, he knew Scourge was gonna kill him
And he knew that all he could do, was mentally prepare himself for the end

And this is why CGI looks the best in dark atmospheres. I was blown away seeing Scourge’s body move and sway underneath the lack of light. He looked incredibly real until he comes out in the opening which isn’t to say he looks fake suddenly. Was the one movie I was rooting for the bad guys rarely since the script was f*cked and plot holes bigger than Unicron made themselves apparent throughout
