Its not an intended fall or even in the realm to think itd happen so the yes/no question was never asked by the code to consider fall damage. Basically the game didnt read it as a fall.

My guess: fall damage is calculated based on the difference between the start point and end point of your fall, and the fall starts when you leave the ground, so all that extra height from being flung into the air is irrelevant to the calculation. That would explain slight fall damage based on a relatively small difference between the height (z coordinate) of where the character left the ground and that where it made contact with the ground again.

I have a theory on how the boss took damage...your character swings multiple times while airborne which shouldn't be possible and you didn't take fall damage so the game thought you were on the ground the whole time! Your attacks must have hit him but he unloaded or something because you were too far away. It was only until you turned around and crossed the point at which you landed that the damage registered. Something like that idk
I had never seen this before and I have played DSII for quite a long time, I have played it even MORE than the other Soulsborne games and I have played them all but Sekiro. Gotta try that out.

I like to imagine the dragon knights only went after you because you bailed out from the fight against the ancient dragon, like they do when you run away from a drakekeeper :D
For those wondering, all those knights wont attack you if you defeat the leader, its some kind of honor or something, but if you ignore the leader or just run to the boss they will turn hostile

I've been playing this game for 7 goddamn years and have never seen anything that insane.
