  • Harminder Singh on "Mandatory vs. optional split-dose bowel preparation for morning colonoscopies: a pragmatic noninferiority randomized controlled trial"
The benefit of optional versus mandatory split-dose bowel preparation has been unclear. This noninferiority randomized controlled trial compared the two approaches among 770 patients. Optional split dosing was inferior to mandatory split dosing for early morning colonoscopies (8:30AM- 10:30AM) and tended to be inferior for late morning colonoscopies (10:30AM-12:00 PM), while patientsʼ experiences were no different. This study confirms the importance of providing clear instructions for splitting bowel preparation doses, especially for early morning colonoscopies.
