I thought Celia's "it's not the same" was about her hopping to this dimension from the original one
Ok im convinced that was jon and martin in the waiting room and I have a theory about it. They are haunting rhe rift (this ep took place in oxford- whats to bet the therapy room, with its thin seeming walls and uncanny vibes was in hilltop road?). So they appear in this episode as watchers- almost like a portent for whats about to haplen to darrien. But look at the episode title- saved copy. Sure that makes sense given the doppelgangers but saved? I think thats what chester and Norris are, saved copies of jon and martin, who have copies manifesting aeiund the rift, put to work by the oair to watch. Also feeds into my theory that the interdimensional weirdness started retroactively occuring in the 90s across the universes, around when Jon found the web leitner and was first marked for his role as interdimesional conduit.
Also love the fact the show straight up said jon looked like a pervert. Beautiful
Um. About that "swollen belly" part: It has to be addressed that in severe cases of malnutrition (like they diagnosed for the statement giver), the belly tends to be enlarged with fatty infiltrates. That condition is called Kwashiorkor. So he is not overweight in the slightest. However, it is a pet theory of mine that his dimension hopping als had a temporal component to it. Maybe he went forward in time and his body adjusted afterwards, thus explaining the bad state he was found in? Hell if I know xD
Good to know, thank you!
@@TheFullSpectrum You're welcome ^_^
Gwen and Alice crushing on each other wasnt on my Bingo card but now it is and I am kinda hoping it happens
Before the episode ended, I thought the person in the basement would be another Darien. Like they were cyclically arriving in this universe, replacing the other, then subjecting the person to the same torment that would be inflicted on them later.
The blood spot on the stairs (as opposed to the main room) might point to that theory, and it's also the stairs that TMP Darrien cracked his head on. But then again, if the TMP Darrien was actually from somewhere else and had done the same to the previous one, he wouldn't put himself in the vulnerable position of showing the new one to the murder basement.
I wonder if people from the original TMA are more prone to dimension jumping
10:00 I don't think he wanted to save the other Darrien...just give him a quicker death
I like to think that the other Darien was from tma and that switch to the shopping mall was the apocalypse, and then he was transferred to this universe. Or something like that.
Yeah with the fact that he showed up malnourished and weak and basically dying. That was my first thought as well.
thats smart! I didn't think of that
The difficulty here is the statement was from 1997 and the apocalypse didn't hit for more than 20 years after that. It seems like there's some time discrepancy between connected universes, but usually more on the order of days or weeks.
@@uffish2 we don't know exactly how the dimension hopping works yet. It's possible that the timelines don't line up even for the people who jumped... So they could have been spit out at wildly different time periods. Or my other theory is that he was the victim of an avatar of the spider in the other universe... A sort of test to see to see if the concept of jumping was possible.
What if the thing that was thought to be Colin is another doppelgänger and that's why the others didn't realise
Another stellar performance, old bean.
I’ve got a bad case of Magnus fever…kind of like the (Grateful) Dead fever I caught long ago.
Each beautiful flu takes effort to appreciate, and is worth every moment of frustration.
I interpreted the episode differently, I think the father was locked in the basement and his funeral was something Other Darren staged
Could be! I like the symbolism of his father being down there with him mentally and how the Other Darrien never left that basement while Darrien was able to break free of it more, but I wouldn't put it past Other Darrien to fake his father's funeral!
And I understood it as TMP Darrien's dad got life saving surgery (removing the tumor that killed him in TMX) and survived long enough to get locked up in his son's basement, while TMX Darrien's dad died of the tumor and thus attended his funeral (as the corpse). It's weirdly worded, for sure, but I chalked that up to TMX Darrien's difficulty in wrapping his head around what happened, especially at that point when he still thinks they're half brothers and it's one version of their dad, not two. How could dad be getting surgery when TMX Darrien knows he was in his coffin at the time? Only later, when he goes down to the basement, does he realize that THIS dad isn't dead: not yet, at least.
Yayyyyy, ambiguous storytelling!
That's exactly how I interpreted it - the sliding doors moment was which parent Darrien went with in the divorce - in one universe his dad died and the other "died" (actually kept in the basement).
Presumably the wealthy Darrien helped his dad get the treatment for the tumour, which wouldn't be available in the first universe.
