- After 7 long years of development, a demo has just been released for Steam Next Fest. This devlog goes over the process of getting the demo and trailer out, covers how the game is being received so far, and what's happening next.
Create your own primitive civilization. Lead your tribe from the ground, immersed in the world while you shape it. Start with nothing, build towns and industry, and advance through thousands of years of technological advancement in this intimate yet expansive colony sim.

As someone who has been subscribed since around the time you'd post The Blockheads stuff, it's crazy to see how much time has passed and how much progress you've made. Congratulations on the demo/trailer!
I came looking for a game from my childhood, (the blockheads)And I end up discovering that you have had years of developing a new jewel and that I just arrived to be among some of those first people to try tremendous work of art.

3 years ago when I first learned about Sapiens, I would never have expected that I'd become so involved with the work-in-progress video game from my CZcams recommended feed. I can't wait for more people to learn about this game and I hope it becomes a great success... even if it means more work for us haha.
I had no idea you were also the developer of the blockheads! Played that game for years as a kid with my brother and I loved it. It struck up so many feelings of comfort, wonder, and adventure between the art style, soundtrack, and gameplay. If Sapiens is gonna be anywhere near that good, which I'm sure it will be and more, I'll be more than happy to pick it up and I'm sure it will be quite popular.
Blockheads was insane. Peaked in gameplay prob around 2021-2022 with servers like kingdom wars, dream kingdom and east vs west. It had a sad death but i reckon this games gonna be even better after the release of multiplayer.

I can't tell you how often I find a game that looks interesting, but all the media available is just pictures or video of the graphics.
While graphics are nice, if there's no hint in how the actual gameplay is like that will definitely make it harder for me to give something a go.
Add upgrades, add ships, make people drink so they can live, add horses as a means of transportation, and thank you.
I always think like this on Space Engineers, guaranteed the developers are like WOW, look what THEY ARE CREATING in our game! It must feel so good to see stuff like that castle from a developer perpsective.
even though I don't have gaming PC, I feel so proud when I read the title of this video

Building big, unique structures like that castle is what I'm looking forward to most in this game. Second I guess would be giving said structures interesting purposes
I heard about this game about 2 or 3 years ago. played through the demo twice, and now I am counting down the days till the 26th so I can get it and support the amazing project.

Crazy to finally see it! Congrats! I am never able to work on projects that take more than 6 months, so your effort and long term dedication is something I envy in a positive way. (And I still listen to the Chopper 2 OST since the day the game has been published on iOS back then :P I think I already told you this on Twitter like 2 times, but why not say it again here too).

Congrats! I remember seeing your Devlogs way back. Don't know why, but I just stopped seeing them on youtube. Just saw your game on steams upcoming tab. That's what brought me here. 7 years is a heck of a long time. Plus, I believe you said you built this from scratch the engine and all (correct me if I'm wrong). Your definitely apart of a few subset of people who can actually stick with something. Especially for a personal project. I hope to be in your shoes one day. Anyways, Congrats again! In the time that I've been watching these vlogs, I've started/finished college and am now coming up on 1 year as a software dev. Back when I started watching I remember wondering how I'd come up with the money to buy the game when it fully came out (I wasn't exactly poor, just never had money for games), little did I know that there'd be a free demo version. Thanks for all the vlogs!

I remember seeing, like, the very first videos about generating the worlds in this game aged and ages ago. I had to do a double-take when I saw this video; it's hard to believe the game's come this far. I played the Steam demo, and I'm just going to say you have at least one guaranteed sale.

I discovered this game by accidently during the demo versions, but I must say that it surprised me very pleasantly. The game is beautifully crafted, it reminds me of the game Going medieval, which I adore. The world is huge, the nights are breathtaking. I keep my fingers on further development and it is already in my wishlist :)

I am so excited to play later today! I played the demo it was so fun and I was disappointed when I found out the limit was 2 days! Thanks for the amazing game.
After playing the demo a couple times I came to appreciate the multi-select cause it helps find smaller objects. If anything I would probably prefer a traditional click and drag for multi-selecting items in a pile (like a group of fruit trees) but the "item-finder" aspect of the current multi-select is great for quality of life. Would never find small rocks without it lol.
Your game is going to be a hit, sincerly hope to see you become the next Notch. Wish you the best brother

I played your demo for a short period of time during my work :D So did not had enough time to fully explore it. But man its awesome. I loved and love your videos, the atmosphere of the game. Following your channel for a long time. And I must say same feeling playing the game. Love how well it runs on my 2 years old gaming laptop. Love how it looks, especially UI. I just can... spend hours in your game just looking at the clouds. I wish for birds. I love birds in the open world games. For example I add more birds via mods in Skyrim :D So I would love to see some for example eagle flying high in the sky from time to time. Anyway... Insta buy for me. Cannot wait to buy your game and fully play it. These days with having kids, work, personal projects is really hard to find time for games. So Im very very picky on what Im playing, spending my time. Trying your demo I instantly felt at home. Again cannot wait for spending my hard earned cash in order to support you and your awesome project :) I just wish I would be able to buy it via itch io.

I hope we will get more terrain features, I didnt play a whole lot, but I felt like it lacked a little bit with what it generated.
I would like to see creeks, streams, swamps, hotsprings and geyser, things like that!
Maybe I was just in the wrong spot, I only checked it out and enjoyed it quite a bit! Build some houses, started chopping trees.

Well done Dave on a brilliant and very enjoyable demo. I am so looking forward to early access. One suggestion though is to leave demo up even after going into early access so people can try before buying.
The motion paths look great! Don't underestimate their use to users either. I'm an avid SIM racer and a big criticism of a lot of titles is their lack of good camera modes for content creators.

Dave, having played the demo for only a few hours, I hope you'll consider my request to re-do the controls: I wish there were some quicker way than through the F2 menu to cycle through the sapiens in my tribe. I'd personally prefer the _Tab_ key be used for that, and have time controls set to maybe _Space_ and the _[ and ] brackets.
Im having way too much fun in a demo that limits my poor minions to 2 days. Looking forward to the release. Will be buying this one for sure.
