Papa Shango was an awesome gimmick. Yes, it was cartoony, but that shit was the apex of the novelty character influx we got in 1991-1993. Dark, brooding, mysterious etc. I actually looked forward to Superstars to see him tool w jobbers. Obvi Godfather was his best gimmick, but Shango always gets shit on. Great look, music, everything!
I was young when Pap Shango came out. Proolly 8 yrs old maybe. He was an excellent character. Same as "The Boogey-Man" I loved when he broke the clock over his head, then would eat dem worms.
Shango was much better than Godfather, Shango feuded with Warrior and Bret. Who did the Godfather feud with?
Agreed. There was an angle they were going to do where he controlled The Undertaker and had actually raised him from the dead, but it got scrapped for his NOD angle and then, of course, The Godfather angle, which is still one of my favorites from the attitude era. Still, that would've been an entertaining angle and fun to watch.

Frenetic Zetetic and voodoo is a real thing too so as far fetched as it was the most outrageous gimmick is and always will be the undertaker, the dead man feels no pain, but as fans we bought into it suspending our own beliefs and realities! Papa shango would’ve worked and was actually getting over from a fans point if view

I see what you mean, but I think the question more depends on which characters can have a huge, main event type match every Ppv without a belt on the line to strengthen the card. I always saw Piper, Undertaker, Andre, and even Mankind to a lesser degree that way. Personally I always saw Lesnar as a guy that needs to have the belt or at least chase it
I think he means, doesn't need the belt to be over. Like Roddy, Dibiase, etc. They were always over.
Well when someone is a big star and a big draw that doesn’t really need the added prestige to draw then why put the belt on them while there’s likely some other talent that could use the title more

Vince Russo DID win the WCW title. Plus, he could never be believed to defeat someone like The Undertaker.

Wrestlemania 15 on the Network is just a shitty edit job they made for a DVD in 2013 or so. Instead of redoing it they just posted that version. If there are WWF edits on the Network it’s because they were just too lazy to make a new version to upload.
Same with the music. Undertaker doesn’t have Rollin at Summerslam 2001 because they were lazy

If good workers didn't need a belt then Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, and many many others would not have benefited much from having the belt. Gimmicks like Jake the Snake and The Undertaker are examples of characters that do not need a belt because people come to see them but not because they are chasing or have a belt. People are attracted to their characters regardless of wins or losses because of how they are portrayed and written.
