  • A long time ago on a faithful May 2007, we were graced with three theatrical threequels: Shrek the Third, Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End. This was an unprecedented trio of threequels that amassed insane amounts of hype- these three films would provide epic conclusions and send offs for these beloved franchises...
    ...until they all sucked.
    Let's revisit these three threequels and see if they truly are disappointing after all these years.

    In my personal opinion I think that out of the three (shrek 3, pirates 3, and Spider-Man3) I think pirates of the Caribbean 3 was definitely the best. Nothing beats that final fight scene when they are in the storm. The music gave me goosebumps from how good and thrilling it was, And the final kiss with Elizabeth and William at the end of the movie was just perfect. It was the weakest out of the trilogy but it definitely had the best ending.

    • @delix787
      @delix787 Před 2 lety +4

      For anybody who is always praising the first movie to be the best. I have been studying 1-3 and I constantly re-watch them. Pirates of the Caribbean does not go downhill in writing after the first movie. That is your business to believe that opinion everyone else goes with.
      Dead man’s chest gave the characters more depth! Elizabeth and William barely have anything to work with in the first movie. William’s relationship with his father that was hinted in the first movie of his father‘s existence. Paid off wonderfully. William’s character had way more in depth now and you have something to truly care about him for. You get both perspectives when you understand their Reunion! Bootstrap didn’t want Will to become a pirate like him, he wanted him to have a free life from the pirate life. William had a hard time accepting he was half Pirate but when he accepted his life and his father… He has a new journey to stab the heart of Davy Jones to set his father free.
      And you’re implying William is better in the first movie just because he wanted to save the girl he loved? William in the second movie now has Elizabeth as a lover. And now a new journey to rescue his father someone else he cares about. And this became a difficult situation when bootstrap told Elizabeth at world‘s end. William has to make a decision. Either don’t kill Davy Jones so he can be with you. Or he does kill Davy Jones and set me free, but he won’t be able to be on land for 10 years. If I were him I wouldn’t pick me! :/ The emotional weight on William’s character gets better and better.
      Elizabeth in the first movie was just a damsel in distress girl. She wasn’t useless in the first movie but you get the point. In the second movie, Elizabeth learned to wield a sword and she used it in the battle. She pulled a gun to Beckett‘s head.. went on her own journey to save will.
      She has grown a lot since the first movie who was just an innocent girl! Elizabeth got better as a character in 2 and 3!
      As for Jack sparrow. He does not become a joke at all in all 3 movies.
      Jack sparrow is at his best in the second movie and in the third movie. There was a moment in dead men’s chest… Where Jack didn’t know what he truly wanted so the compass couldn’t locate what he desired. So when Elizabeth went on her journey and then found Jack.. Jack used her for his advantage! He took advantage of Elizabeth’s feelings by telling her if you want to save Will you have to want to find the chest of Davy Jones! In order to get will back.. That’s why Jack gave her the compass. Jack knew if he couldn’t figure what he wanted out he was going to get it out of Elizabeth. Since Elizabeth now wants to find the chest of Davy Jones to save will. This gives Jack the huge opportunity to find the chest to stab the heart in it. But instead he wants to control DavyJones before killing him. Jack sparrow is not stupid! When will was trying to stab the heart towards the end of the second movie. Jack knows just because Davy Jones is dead, does not mean the Kraken will be stopped as well. And you’re telling me Jack is dumb after part 1??
      As for Beckett. He was a well executed villain who uses dialogue and negotiation to control people. The Reason why Beckett didn’t fire his cannons at worlds end. Was because it would be totally out of his character to use weapons. Beckett uses certain words to get through people and how to control them behind the scenes. Beckett at the end of the movie had nothing left to negotiate with. Davy Jones was dead, Jack sparrow is alive and well. Will Turner is now the new captain of the Flying Dutchman. Beckett had literally nothing to use against on people. He was caught in shocked and he decided to die..
      Anyways I could defend the Gore Verbinski’s Trilogy all night. His trilogy is an underrated trilogy. It had great character writing and amazing detail of its depth.
      Also Will vs Davy Jones!!! 😈😈😈
      when Will challenging Davy Jones.
      Davy Jones asks him how do you know about the key?
      Will replies and says, that's NOT part of the game is it? 😏 You can STILL walk away!! 😏

    • @rafaelc.c.
      @rafaelc.c. Před 2 lety +2

      @@DTheAustralian Nah, many people will say it's bad, but try to find a valid argument for why it is bad. It's just like a fad that never ends. These guys are just little kids with a desire of proving they are masters in cinema knowledge. People love to bash on these movies because it is like saying that Citizen Kane is the best movie of all time. It makes them look like they know. It's a ball that never stops running. There's a huge context of ridiculous arguments for the prequels to be considered bad. But it's all ridiculous again. The Star Wars community has always been super toxic and on the media everyone is kind of an extremist. It's got to a point in which they think that if you like one movie you have to hate the others.
      If you go outside of the pretentious media, for most plain people with decent knowledge of cinema. all six movies are very good.
      The movie has a wonderful story no doubt. People find it hard to see the bigger picture.
      Besides, no matter if you think the movie is great, good or not so good, that year coincided together the second installment for, arguably, the three biggest cinema stories of all time.

    • @DTheAustralian
      @DTheAustralian Před 2 lety

      @@rafaelc.c.
      Huh. I've always heard it was boring, middling and painful to sit through, but that's alright. I haven't seen Star Wars myself- not any of the main episodes, none of the spin offs, not even the Clone Wars- so I'm an outsider, but whatever. I will say this, though:
      > all six movies are very good
      you don't like the sequels, do you?

    • @rafaelc.c.
      @rafaelc.c. Před 2 lety +1

      @@DTheAustralian Well, I personally think the first one is quite good, the second one has big mistakes but it's still good and the third one is a complete mess but still kind of entertaining.
      While generally people like the original six films, these ones are way more polarized.
      I feel that the vast majority think they are quite worse. I believe that when the execution fails but the story is great, you still have a good movie, but if the story is not good, the movie can't be very good.
      That said, the hate towards them is ridiculous too. It's also partially fruit of expectations. It's just another fashion to hate them, just like it's a fashion now to love The Mandalorian. If you don't you are nobody, if you get what I mean. You can clearly see when someone really likes it and when someone just wants to join the train of hype.
      II think that Star Wars, under Disney's control, has still being producing some quality content, such as Rogue One, Rebels or even the first season of The Bad Batch. But it's a shame how the franchise is now. They think only fan service can save it now. I hope it's only a matter of time. If not I'm quitting.

    • @Onezy05
      @Onezy05 Před 8 měsíci

      @@DTheAustralian I'd personally say Episode 2 (along with Episode 6) is probably the weakest of the original films but it's still pretty solid and fun in its own right.

    I never really got into the Pirates of the Carribean movies (although since I have Disney Plus, I'll consider checking them out sometime this year or next year) but I did see both Spider-Man 3 and Shrek The Third on their opening nights, but even then, I didn't realize those movies came out around the same time.
    I've always been a fan of Spider-Man 3, I liked Shrek The Third as a kid, but I watched all 4 Shrek movies for the first time in years in 2018 and in retrospect, Shrek 3 is a movie that has some good aspects, but definitely could've been done better with the ideas that they had. Shrek 3 feels more like a rough draft for a movie that still needs time in the oven with plot points still being early in development to be expanded upon in the final draft. For example how you mentioned Donkey and Puss switch bodies for no reason, this is a plot point that could've actually had an impact to the story if they did more with it, but it's very pointless in execution.

    When Marko explains what happened, we see Ben was actually able to reason with him, and almost convinced to just go home, but then his partner runs up behind him and surprises him, and Marko accidentally fires the gun. If Peter had stopped his partner, then Marko wouldn't have killed Uncle Ben. Its contrived sure, but it still implies Peter's negligence to do anything cost Ben his life.

    I guess now the equivalent would be akin to something like The Avengers, Star Wars and Avatar all making their film comeback in the same month & year; which would never happen, especially given all of those films are actually aligned under the same distributor.
