- First tutorial in a long time. Cute technique for clouds I haven't seen anyone else do. Very quick and easy with great results!
Blender changed the layout of the ocean modifier for the first time in 500 years days after this tutorial came out. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
This new trend of making minutes long blender tutorials is a long time coming.
I agree, I need to get on it fast
We have Ian to thank
Yeah but the originals are the only ones worth watching.
@@glvbukz897 ehhhh. I dunno man, this is a really good tutorial. especially if you already know blenders interface. I don't know how long you've been using blender. But I've been using it for nearly a decade. And I got to enjoy the death of blogging and youtube increasing their video length at the same time. So to click one check box, I got to enjoy an hour of people rambling to learn something stupid simple.
New people to blender get to enjoy an unprecedented learning curve due to better quality educational materials that exist now. Even more so if you were a casual user of blender. Your going to meet kids now who've only just learned how to use the program. And are better then people like me, who have used it since the mid 2000's. because they were taught more efficiently. And that's actually pretty cool.
@@glvbukz897 Yes, agreed, and some of those projects do require more indepth explanation, due to their complexety; not everything in life, is...microwaved in two minutes or less. such an impatient, humanistic society we have evolved into...
Man, you're a genius to convert an ocean to clouds. What can't you do with Blender, man?!
The idea is nothing new but yes I agree it’s very clever
Well your not able to make hentai. If u are able to send it to me so i can review, i need atleast one hours worth

,,Hello and welcome to today's tutorial of fixing a broken marrige with blender"
@@RM-is9fn Coomer
Here are the issues I faced making this in blender 4.0 and HOW I FIXED THEM.
1. Apply the ocean modifier before going to edit mode to select the non-manifold
2. press F to fill the face
3. In the materials for the plane, make sure to add the principled volume in the volume section (make sure it's not surface)
4. Recalculate normals by going into edit mode, select all then press Alt + N then choose flip. if it doesn't work, go to edit mode again, select all press SHIFT + N. you can alos try "INSIDE"
5. DON'T USE AREA LIGHT. instead create a cube, flatten it on z axis, add a new material to it and CRANK UP the strength of the emission 😂 then replace the area light with it.
6. remeber to rotate the sun. click R + Z + 180 to rotate it to the right direction
7. the cloud is under the plane mesh, so don't get stuck looking at the covered face
8. CRANK UP the density of the mesh to about 200 (you can try what works for you)
9. mess with the emmission strength of the cube, the density of plane, and strength of sun
10. make sure you're in rendered view, make sure your render engine is set to cycles.
11. the displace modifier, change the strength to a negative number e.g -0.3
BONUS TIP: if it's still not looking right, Go to render settings, navigate to "Light" uncheck "light tree"
I hope these tips were helpful. Happy building! cheers 🙂

underrated comment
no comment i gotchu bro
In other words, this tutorial is trash lmao
@@j_c_93 no just old
Do not use a cube with an emission shader. That’s a beginner mistake.
Apply ocean modifier (in object mode) → deselect your mesh → shift to edit mode → make sure you are in edges or vertices mode not face → then select > non manifold should be available. This helped me on 12/16/2021 for date referencing
Thx
Thank you so much
thank you man
Thank you!
lifesaver thank you! still works in 2023
For any later comers , if you have problem with extruding the edges.
You shoud first select apply from the down drop arrow next to the ocean modifier name.
Thank you.
Thank you!
Thanks!!!
after struggling for 1 hour, found your comment. thanks
heaven sent 🤌🏾
For any latecomers like me, you can only select 'non manifold' when in edge or vertex selection mode, if you are in face select the option doesn't appear
Thanks!
I had to convert mine to mesh by right clicking. Another way might be to apply the ocean modifier.
@@ABones-bm3vq thanks so much 🙏
Many thanks
Friend, thanks
This is the best blender tutorial I've seen! No bullshit, just straight to the point.
This is so good! Short but gets the point across. This format makes finding answers wayyy easier.
For 2.90.1 users, the apply is on the dropdown arrow on the name of modifier. Apply the modifier, then go into edit mode for "non manifold select"
thank you for this!
@@TheDeenasaur you're welcome. sometimes blender can be tedious, just stay creative.
hello Sir, does it work with the most of this tutorial on your Computer in blender 2.92 ? in my case its all black, the shader dosent work. can you help me ?
@@blackswan6386 it will depend on what part of the tut you're stuck at. When it's black, something isn't connected to the material output, or it could be that the emission isn't up enough.
and than just plug the Volume to the volume,...that was ehy all was black, im so stupid sometimes. thanks Sir for reply on, have nice day, ciao
honestly the best and most easy way to make clouds in blender.
Actually astounded that not a lot more people are doing this!
This is very innovative! I've never seen someone use the ocean modifier as clouds! That's awesome!
This is the type of work arounds that make people smile! Simple, smart, effective!
It would be fantastic to have this updated. Such a unique and useful tutorial
Love this unconventional yet aesthetic use of the ocean modifier!
This works really well when combined with the "Mesh to Volume" and "Volume Displace" modifiers
Really enjoyed this one, I would love to see more tutorials like this from you. Keep up the good work!
I've been wanting to make a stormy sky in a while and this is just PERFECT.
Thank you!
What I actually understood was two things: "Make a new project" and "that's some clouds".
@@Agvazela_Vega File > New > General. That's about it. Then delete what's on screen (light, camera, cube) and you're good to go!
astonishing simplicity!! who would have thought! keep your good stuff coming pleaaaase
This tutorial litteraly saved my entier Fim festival project.. i cannot tell you how long it took me to find a decent cloud tutorial that I could replicate
Thank You So Much. As A Beginner It Took ME A Couple Times Slowing The Video Down TO Keep Up, But I Am Grateful That It Was Concise
If anyone is having trouble with the selecting all non-manifold edges, go into object mode and convert it to a mesh, then you are able to do it
Awesome man. Thanks
Thanks bro. You're a legend!
Thaaanks
Thank you so much!!!
with blender there is troble with every single click.............and thankyou
Really nice results, quick simple and a very pleasing result!
this is the best ☁️ tutorial out there..the thumbnail says it all❤️🔥🔥thank you
I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR YEARS! THANK YOU!!!
If your cloud is black, make sure you volume texture node is plugged into volume on the material output node. NOT SURFACE!!!
Man you saved my day!!! For the last obne hour I tried to figure this out..
thx bro
This is super!! My mind is already swimming with ideas!
This is incredible. I'm going to use this next time I end up rendering something.
Thanks for showing this great tutorial and happy blending with Blender 3d
this is so cool! thank you! i watched a tutorial for clouds that used nodes and it was really cool too but i cannot for the life of me make it work. this is really helpful and nice!! will try it later!!
Love tutorials like this... subbed, hope to see more
That tutorial was AWESOME super inspiring mate!
What an interesting approach! Thank you so much for sharing this
this is hands down amazing. Thank you!
Wow. That crazy!! Really creative.
I tried to recalculate normals from outside and nothing happened. then I tried inside and still nothing happened. What am I missing between these steps?
Now this is just magic! Thanks for sharing!
Very cool! Can't wait to play with this
What a great idea, never thought of that!
amazing tutorial! Great idea!
If you have problem with light tots and displace does not help that much, try to use remesh modifier, but make sure you dont have overkill with polycount cuz this is power consuming
I am always so sorry for the cube.. shes like HERE HERE pick me pick me :(
You're right. He could have just selected the cube, scaled it down in z axis and added that modifier.
She? You think the cube is female?
@@gnamp In my language, cube ("kostka") is
inflected as she. Not like it is not a thing though, it still is "it".
@@MADZBEATS That's interesting and makes sense. At least no one's spraying any of that 'gender-fluid' crap that so plagued 2019.
@@bimalhessa7677 oh god please don't start this whole gender bull-crap
This was a great tutorial, thank you!
You could probably even animate this! Since the ocean modifier is procedural. Genius!
No as it is applied to make a volume.
dude! it looks amazing!!!!!
the casual badassery is a nice touch
I have no words...You're a genius.
WOW.. just subscribed. Crazy how you can do the impossible with blender. But soon it will be on top
absolutely blessed, thank you SO much for this
This was interesting, I feel as though my computer isn't strong enough to render these clouds but it was cool learning more about how some of these functions work
what's the minimun specs in your opinion ?
UNBELEIVABLE! FANTASTIC!
Bless you sir, I've been looking for a way to make decent clouds using homogeneous volumes for a while now!
You can always use the smooth modifier and repeat in the modifier to get the same result if the displace doesn't work ;)
tip for 1:00
thank u for this!!
@@halcyonmakemyday7181 Very much welcome.
Thank you. Im fairly new, and was getting a little frustrated that those little spots or whatever weren't disappearing.
@@dreamthoughtplays Np mate
You are a genius. This was the final step that i needed. blender user 2.91
This is a really cool effect. Thankyou :-)
Just realized that the ocean can be used for an electron microscope zoomed in surface look.
wonderful tutorial
Great stuff king
Damn man this video challenges me. Recalculate normal is Alt + N then choose flip
read my mind
That's the part which I didn't understood in video, thanks...
THANK YOU
Subscribed. Cool stuff dude.
It took me a gajillion years to figure out you rotated the sun, I was wondering why my lighting looked off. Great technique. I've been trying to get an as nice looking texture with geometry nodes rather then the ocean, not there yet.
Holy crap, that's amazing.
So im using Blender 2.83.0 and tried creating it, the spectrum option is missing for me somehow.
Going to check in other versions to see if its there, but now im wondering since youre using this version here yourself
if the ocean modifier doesn't look like the one in the video, try doing it from an exactly new project and looking at it from the bottom. looks different from the top than it is on its downside
This Really Helped A Lot! Thanks!
Well, this is just one of those random ideas you get when playing around with stuff, ain't it.
Cool video, keep up the good work. :)
Him: making many clouds in 2 minutes
Me: creating a donut for 2 weeks
I don't have spectrum on v 2.81a but I'm approaching the result with the wind at 2.8 and choppiness at 0.8, hope it can help
Wooo, amazing!
Great tutorial! I extruded the non-manifold, added the face and area light but when I remove the surface and add a principled volume to the the volume tab i lose the definition and only get mist. Using Blender 3.4
same, using Blender 3.5.1
Remember to apply modifier (ocean) before trying to enter edit mode.
how do i apply it, pls help
@@noa5545 on the modifier tab just ctrl + a on the modifier you want to apply.
@@supremebeme thanks!
I'm using blender 2.83 too. However, I cant seem to get hold of selecting/extruding the edge the way you did in 0:28 (only the initial plane gets selected when I select 'non manifold'. Am I missing something?
Edit: Issue solved. I was apparently supposed to 'apply' the ocean modifier too. Great tutorial btw :D
you're a good man thank you
THANK YOU
I dont have the select non manifold as an option, any idea why?
Edit: Nevermind, I was in face mode instead of edge. Leaving it in case someone was also struggling with this.
@@facuigua12 what face mode and what edge mode i have no clue what anything means
yh I have been struggling with this for half an hour while a minite later I found I didn't "apply" the modifier. Thank you so much for that reminder. BTW the tutorial is nice Zulubo Productions
If anyone is having trouble with the white spots and the displace and/or smooth modifiers aren't working, it's also worth backtracking to the volume settings. I was able to clear away the spots by lowering the volume density.
I KEEP GETTIN BLACK AND WHITE SPOTS AND CANT MAKE IT LOOK LIKE HIS
Probably the only time I've ever seen someone making mammatus clouds, Welp! I know what I'm doing for the next couple days!
am just curious how you thought of that
Fantastic. Thank you.
very neat and tidy
To add new material go down to material property's (left hand side of panel right at the bottom is red)
Not sure if values changed with 2.9x - I have to crank up the area light to like 200k + and density between 1-2 (not 20+ like vid). I have gotten similar results though. These are some spooky ass clouds, just what I was looking for ha.
Thanks, these settings work much better!
what if you want open areas between the clouds?
Blender 3.4 my cloud is black and no light is visible anywhere
You just did mammatus clouds! thanks for this GREAT tutorial :)
Nice tutorial, thanks
I can't get the same darkness effect. It's all grey with white outline.
Got transparent clouds. Seems like I am doing something wrong with normals but I can't figure out what specifically
pretty cool man that was unexpected tutorial
I'm a complete newbie to all of blender stuff, but I'll definitely will take this technic in my write book, this is so frickin amazing! Absolutely love it
(Sorry for grammar mistakes, as English isn't my mother tongue)
Great stuff !!
Now, onto animating it... :P
that is very cool.... any chance theres a wayt to make the gapes larger for some possible god rays to happen?.... i guess ill test it out ...thanks for a great start!
And you can animate them! Nice job!
No to make a volume you have to apply the ocean modifier.
in the ocean modifier setting it doesn't show spectrum option
@Zulubo Productions I can't get the clouds to work. Everything looks like yours until I add the area light, and then it looks slightly different, and after I recalculate the normals, it looks completely different. After increasing the density, it starts looking splotchy and the white particles remain. I am working in blender 2.91 and if you have the time, could you tell me what I didn't do right? Thank you in advance.
Edit: I figured out that my clouds mesh was translucent for some reason. I fixed this by decreasing the area light strength, and then moving it up.
is it working in your project ? i have some issues with the light as well. can you help me ? my area light dosent show, just sun is dominateing the color. hm
@@blackswan6386 for me, playing with the strength settings worked out fine, but it did look a bit strange, so I switched to a different tutorial for making volumetric clouds
