  • The price is certainly right but how does the GT Sensor actually ride?

    Test road this exact bike in medium and found it to be a total shred machine with a World Cup winning suspension platform. Then watched as the owner climbed exceptionally well on it up a rocky slippery wet section in a XC race that many where struggling with. So all around top notch bike

    Just taken possession of a test rig 2020. Added a Marzocchi Z2 160mm travel fork. The bike is a porky little fellow and yes very short top tube. I wear a size 9 shoe or 43. Noticed my left foot rubbing up against the left rear stay. Climbing was really surprising and very little bob in the low setting. However I think the efficiency of the suspension made tackling rough climbs easier and deceivingly quicker when in actual fact it was just smoother leaving one comfortable to push harder without grimacing. I noticed cmy heart rate popping out way higher without realising it.
    Trying 27.5 wheels tomorrow will report back.
    One downside was my knee banged up against the bar on a tight uphill switchback. That top tube is short. Value makes this is a winner if you looking for a fun 1 to 2 hour trail bike. More than that, unless you a greyhound low weight rider you going to feel that weight. Also the bike was pretty noisy on the descents. It could be a small under seat tool bag. Ripping it off tomorrow and will see if there’s still that rattling sound on the next ride.

    I've a 2019 Sensor Comp - the aluminum version, one up from the base model 'sport'. 5-11 and I ride a Medium. When I first got it - it felt short - like they said here. I moved the seat back a bit, got a 30mm riser bar, and it fits great. You really get used to the new riding compartment quickly. It's also probably why this thing corners so well. I clown around on my relatively flat michigan trails, and I've never had so much fun as with this bike. This bike has some wierd mojo for awesome trail feel and handling - it also feels rock solid and ready for anything. As for bob? Yes - it will bob a bit, but try running a bit more air pressure in the shock for 25% sag, & the bobbing disappears and becomes an afterthought....best bang for the buck in the biz. It's the only bike I've ever had where I find myself laughing while riding, from being able to ride stuff way faster and better than ever before.

      I have a Sensor. I bought it as a new frame and built it up. Its not a light bike but I've got a fox 36 and Hope V4 brakes on it. Mine is about 33 pounds but can probably get it down to 31 with a Pike and lighter brakes. Maxxis dhf 2.5s also weight a ton. The geo is contemporary. The reach for the large is 470 but the slack HA mixed with the fairy steep SA of 76 degrees makes for not a stretched out feeling. Its a long bike with long cs so you will feel centered and i like that. Its a burly, short travel bruser and if thats what you want its a good bike for that. It reminds me sort of like a Following. Just because its carbon doesn't mean light weight.

  • @thephoenixcycle8854
    @thephoenixcycle8854 Před 4 lety

    I have a sensor and it is weighty and it also feels a bit cramped even in the large size. It has a 470 reach so its not short by any means but a 480 or even 490 would be great. Its a long bike with long cs so i feel super confident with how i feel centered. This is my first Horst Link bike as I've aways had intense vpp so i wasnt sure what to expect. Personally i dont feel like lts too bobby. I do feel the rear to be harsh but im 230 so the shock is pumped pretty high. A custom tune would be greatly improve the matter. The Sensor is a burly bike built for a beating and thats what i wanted was a slack, short travel bruser of a bike. Lastly, im not a fan of the gold. A classic GT chrome would be amazballs!
    I would like to add that i wish the top tube and seat tube were lower to provide more clearance for a longer dropper post and for my boy bits

    I know what you mean about forgetting to open the suspension back up. I feel like if I used the lockout more often I might remember to open it back up... but I think it would take quite a few rides to get to that point.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty Před 5 lety

      It also depends on your terrain. For a 2 hour grind up a fire road I’ll definitely lock it out. But for undulating terrain, with constant ups and downs, a lockout is just more of a pain.

  • @TrailFeatures
    @TrailFeatures Před 5 lety +1

    Great vid! I agree that the top tube needs to be stretched out a little bit. It's a stupid good bike otherwise!

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 Před 5 lety

    Probably a lot better than my 2014 Fuel ex, probably will be stiffer, and definitely won't have the bearing sliding and pivot rubbing issue. duel shear pivots, that's nice, they definitely did some things right.
    according to the chart I would need Xl to get proper reach, I am 181cm which is the case with most brands, recommended size does not make sense to me, but the modern geo bikes like Nicolai and so on do, long enough reach. my current bike is way too short, I hit my knees, and I run the setup as good as I can, my bike is just way too short, so new bike needs to be built, I have been suffering from paralysis from analysis way too long. I guess I will have to take a chance on something. So far Nicolai seems to be what I am looking for. but I wish I could try them.
    this bike cost just little more than my bike was priced.

    Hi. This is one of my shortlist now but does the shortness of top tube bother you Betty or others? Im 168 cm/66 inc long and maybe M size is my size? 🤷 And is this bike much shorter than rivals like Spesialized Stumpjumper or Trek Remedy for example?

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 Před 5 lety

    this bike definitely is not for me, I need a great suspension platform, not too much bob, but I definitely need sensitive suspension at the same time, when I actually hit bumps, and am riding smal shatter, but when riding it in various positions I still need it to not bob, my bike bobs way too much, but I can plow trough things, but it's super flexy, so need stiff bike.
    My fav thing about the Gt Sensor is the cable rotting at the down tube, easy cable routing, and external routing is important for me, but so far I am leaning towards Nicolai Saturn 14 or G1, fully external routing, using bolts and clamps to secure the cable, so swap brakes fast for example. But I haven't tried any of them.
