  • GT bikes are close to our hearts: they've been behind some of the most classic mountain bikes of all times, often pushing designs well ahead of their times. GT have had a few years in the wilderness we feel, but 2019 sees a big shift for the brand. The launch of an all-new Force and Sensor platform sees a return to practicality, robust construction and no-nonsense trail performance that we appreciate. Take a look here for more:

    Just picked up a Sensor Expert medium frame with a Z1 set to 160mm travel after a test ride of the YT Jeffsy 27.5 pro loaded to the hilt, Canyon Strive 160 150 and Canyon Neuron.
    While the YT is a significantly better climber (160 front 140 back) and good desender, touch of wavering on open burms. Strive is a rock eating machine on the downhills ( very poor climber though due to a poor seat position ) The porky GT Sensor standard spec and by porky we talking a lot heavier bike than any other carbon frame in the same class. (Essentially this is a Force and the Force is the Sensor without the shocks) the GT railed 4 cross type corners, boosted off jumps better than the YT or Strive and with all the extra lard climbed pretty okay with its cheap supermarket drive train. This got me thinking. Thanks the massive saving from the GT buy, I managed to upgrade the wheels to a carbon set of rims, sweet hubs and pulling over my XX11 group set from a old bike and popping a 30 tooth up front to assist on the climbs. Rotational weight savings 870grams on the drivetrain and wheels. Dumped the crap heavy rotors and used my XT ice. Static weight savings around 400grams on other parts. Kept the same tires and droppost and added my XTR trail brakes and Fizik carbon seat. Sam Hill Nuke grips fitted as well as my old Carbon Havoc as a like a slightly shorter bar. NX drive train and crappy brakes sold. Lets see how she climbs now and manuels😁

    The older rear sus scared me to even look at. I can’t imagine doing service on it. My 2019 Sensor is a great ride. Solid, fun and super snappy since i upgraded the wheels.

    I really enjoyed my AOS force.... i was hoping for a refined version of that, but this does look freaking cool, and will probably sell more just because it is more familiar to the customer

      Both use the exact same frame and rear end. The Force should be the same weight as its running smaller wheels

    Gt was using lts before the big S even bought the patent for the horst link suspension. Trek stole it's design from the split pivot
    Dw link. I love my 2016 I drive fury but I just ordered my new force elite and going to try an alloy bike again see if it creaks less.

    Interesting for a next-bike upgrade (frame only is nice option and good price), 160mm F/150mm is good, but frame isn't full carbon. Those cables need a cover too.

    • @paulstuart525
      @paulstuart525 Před 4 lety

      Burddog07 The sensor is a porky little one, like really seriously porky thanks to that heavy rear triangle

    The problem still lies they are still half-stepping the future's here I understand they're from the old school we want to keep it real but they need to put the gadgets GT if you are reading this we the people want more gadgets and less weight for the money please hurry I'm getting older and really want to own a GT again and will drop the $$$$ quick here is the catch I gotta love it.

  • @intenseextremities5071

    I wanted to buy this bike until he said EXTERNAL CABLE ROUTING. Cmon GT its 2018. External cable routing is a thing of the past.

    • @burddog0792
      @burddog0792 Před 5 lety

      Dropper looks internal, and all the cables go neatly up the top tube. Would have been nice if they did what Canyon did and made a cover for them. Theirs even is on the bottom of the downtube and acts as a big skid plate.

    • @thephoenixcycle8854
      @thephoenixcycle8854 Před 4 lety

      External routing is the way to go. At least for the rear brake.

  • @downhilljedi
    @downhilljedi Před 6 lety

    So in other words. GT couldn't come up with a good suspension platform and decided to do what every other company has done since the patent ran out on the FSR suspension platform. I'll spend my money elsewhere.
