Hope you guys have a good season. Be careful about getting bait on your trail cameras, it does not end well.
Was out bird hunting a few years back with a Brittney. The dog took off and about 15 minutes later, came back. Someone had baited with rotten meat and never cleaned up after the season. Well, you know what dogs do when they find something rancid rotten, yep, rolled in it. I almost puked, but the dog was proud. I gagged as I put her in the pick up bed and tied her in. Went a 1/2 mile or so, looked in the rear view, no dog!!! Looked in the side mirror and there she was, back feet just barely touching the ground, hanging by her neck, running like hell with two feet. I was going maybe 20. Stopped, gagged a little and put her back in the truck. Got home and had to scrub her 3 times and still, stunk like hell. She stayed out side for a few weeks. Made for a great bird season.

I’ve heard of guys putting grease on the bottom of their boots and walking in and out of the sight so it will attract more bears, and I’ve heard of people even putting stuff on their truck tires
Going to unit 19 in a couple weeks for my first bear hunt. Can’t wait.

Will you be dog hunting at all?
It’s a possibility! Don’t have anything set in stone yet but have spoken to someone about it. It mostly depends if we tag out during the first few weeks or not! Thanks for watching!
I'm going to Washington County in a few weeks to hunt over bait. Ill be using a .308. The bait is around 25 yards from the stand. How important is an illuminated reticle? I've read that once it starts to get dark, it is tough to see a duplex reticle against the black fur of the bear. I have an aimpoint red dot that I could use, otherwise I'll have to look into something else
I would say it depends on how well your scope gathers light. I have shot a bear 5 minutes before legal with a normal 3x9 scope and could see fine, but there was an opening in the tree canopy above me and my scope was able to gather light. I definitely don't think a red dot would be a bad idea, especially with it only being a 25 yard shot to the bait. I would just take your normal scope and your red dot and go outside in the last 10 minutes of light and test both. That will give you a good idea of how well you can see with each one. Try to get into some tree cover where it's quite dark, and maybe aim at a tree or something dark to test them. Hope this helps, and good luck on your hunt!
Now that you are a guide will you be selling hunts? If so how much for a guided hunt?
Hi Andy! I will be looking into doing a few guided hunts next year but nothing is set in stone at the moment. I can’t give you a price yet because I would need to calculate costs etc and I don’t have those figures yet. In maine is it a lottery system where you need preference points or can you obtain a tag every year for bear?
Hi Brad! Thanks for commenting, you can obtain a bear tag every year. There are restrictions on the placement of bait. But you’re allowed 2 bear each year. One by hunting and one by trapping. You can hunt over bait or with hounds. And obviously if you wanted to try without bait but it’s really unlikely.

I’m surprised y’all don’t do a honey burn while baiting.
Hey Matthew! I’ve done a honey burn before but it’s a bit of a tedious process. You can’t burn the honey or your mixture so you have to keep it a certain temperature. Probably not a huge deal if you burn it but you won’t get that white smoke that you want. Also, with bears already coming in to your site, I personally don’t see a reason to do it. If you’re opening up a site maybe. But in my experience I don’t see the scent sticking around as long as some of the other methods that I use. That’s why I don’t use them but I’ve heard other people loving it and having good results! Definitely not against it, just not really for me!
@@dschaeffer1833 I’ve noticed that you use a lot of pastries (u also have said it all depends on what u can get) have u noticed they tend to like the sweets vs stuff like grains or meats. I know meats go bad unless there hit real hard. I’ve seen people freeze them into giant ice cubes and use them that way.
There are people who have made a career out of doing outdoor sports videos. You are close. Drop the bad music tracks. Drop the cute shots like you taking a pee. Focus on the info that sportsmen and sportswomen want to see. Make some quality tapes and then take them to some potential sponsors. Good luck on your career, kid. I hope to see you on network TV someday.
Fancy video tricks such as fast fwd and fast rewind does NOTHING to help your videos. Stick to the basix.
Respectfully, there are almost 1700 people right now who must disagree with you. I'm not sure why you feel the need to inform us on how to create our videos, you are more than welcome to make your own videos the way you see fit.
