    The one concern I have about this game for new players trying to learn the game is that there should have been a "tutorial game" included in the box aside from the main scenario. I still have this game on my shelf and have not played it because I wanted to see how it was played. However, there is no way to do that without ruining part of it. I'm surprised the creators didn't think of this.

    Even after playing six scenarios, watching this brought back the excitement and amazement of my first play.

    Played this with my group and it's really fun, the puzzles can actually be quite hard to solve so be ready for some brainstorming. Also, if you have a group who likes to RP and get into character, even better.

    I am with Dave in that I loved the puzzley aspect of the Asylum adventure. It may also come from the fact that point-and-click PC games are probably my favorite computer games. heh I enjoyed The Marcy Case, but not as much as the first scenario. Can't wait to do the other two that are currently out and I hope they keep them coming. :-) The cost has not deterred me, in the least. In fact, I have been the one in the group who has shouldered all of the cost for the game and expansions. Doesn't bother me at all because I am having a blast with it so far. :-) Definitely one of my favorite games from last year.

    We are about to start The Marcy Case on Friday, right after our July-Pandemic-Legacy-Campaign. Very exciting.
    I was waiting for this and the PL video to come out.
    I have to say, we got screwed over by that time-die A LOT :(

    This seems similar to Chronicles of Crime? This type of game (detective puzzle) is by its nature short-lived as information is uncovered that can't be re-hidden or changed. It is more like playing an interactive book. However, like Mansions of Madness, the pleasure is from the deep immersion in the story and the atmosphere/tone of the story, and I really don't mind paying for that experience. I also like the built-in "Groundhog Day" aspect of it, where you build knowledge to eventually overcome the difficulties and succeed.

    I do get and slighty agree with the replay value complaint, I don't entirely agree. I think that after a couple of years you'll forget enough that it would be worth playing again. Using a video game comparison it's like the Ace Attorney series, and fans of those replay them from time to time like that.

    39:00 when looking at the state markers, you will recognize that the pattern are numbers (counting the areas). So we use to speak about this one here as "grey 4 token". This lets you talk with others that sit near the tokens without having to show them the card and spoiling anything ;)

    49:09 You do not take damage from a riposte unless there is at least one skull on the dice AND at least one skull shield remaining after hits have been removed. (Rulebook, pg. 11) However, if there is at least one skull shield on a test and you decide to do nothing, you take 1 damage even though rolled no dice. (Rulebook, pg. 12)

  • @Falco20019
    @Falco20019 Před 8 lety

    59:00 you wouldn't get the token, the card says that you have to LOOK at the card with this state token. The difference is, that you a) don't have to spend a time unit to get there and b) can only see this card through the previous one and are not allowed to revisit it. This matters a lot more in the later scenarios but also has already a time impact in this scenario

    • @Falco20019
      @Falco20019 Před 8 lety

      Rusty is mentioning this also at 1:00:00 but I wanted to make the difference clear here since I also saw some people grabbing the token afterwards

    I've watched a dozen videos with Aaron and I've just now realized that he sounds like Jack McBrayer, aka Kenneth from 30 Rock. Except a more low-key version of him.

  • @Hailtothegun
    @Hailtothegun Před 8 lety +2

    The issue with replayability that many people seem to have with the game just doesn't make sense to me. How many times do people rewatch movies they've seen dozens of times and still get enjoyment out of it?

    • @andyhayes1884
      @andyhayes1884 Před 7 lety

      Hailtothegun That's a little different. A movie can be enjoyed if you've seen it before because, though it's the same story, nothing changes no matter how many times you've seen it. Play a game with the exact same scenario twice, and players with a good memory simply memorize the perfect path to take.

    • @mattlowder
      @mattlowder Před 6 lety

      It's a first world problem to be able to complain about such a thing. This game is excellent. If 4 people chip in for a $50 game, and can play it three times for 60 to 90 minutes each "run attempt", that's better value than a movie ticket. This is a memorable as hell experience.

  • @christophersouthorn6963
    @christophersouthorn6963 Před 6 lety +1

    Here's the way I see it:
    The story expansions cost $30 each while the core box costs about $50, right? Well, the story element in the core box (the asylum) could be valued the same as the expansions ($30). What remains are the core components (the board, the tokens, the markers, etc). Those components ARE reused with each expansion story, and are not unreasonably expensive ($20) when valued separately from the story components.

  • @mattlowder
    @mattlowder Před 6 lety +2

    1:16:30 it really is funny that this would bother him. It's so obviously part of the game that you just have to go with it and enjoy it. Why on Earth would you want to finish this in one run? The whole point is the blunder through and experience the exploration and unknown. If I ever finish the time story in two runs, I would be pissed. Three runs minimum! I don't care about a score, I want to get my money's worth! I want to experience and see everything. I just find that complaint, however half-joking, absurd. If anyone really feels that way, like this is the game you're supposed to beat quickly on the first or second run, this is just not the genre of game for you.
