    Two things, if you close down the dampener it would burn hotter and use less fuel, if you crush the cans they melt faster and you don't risk splash out when they pop.

    I’m almost 1000000% sure the fire brick is for placing the hot crucible upon. That way you have a safe place to put such an object at that temperature. Also good for pre heating your graphite if you don’t like using the top of the furnace

    As a guy who has worked in an Aluminum Smelter a high purity Smelter at that it was hard to watch this video but what we do is different and wayyyyyy bigger lol same concept tho😅 but hey it is a lot to learn lol like how he let the metal freeze up in the casts lol Aluminum freezes pretty quick so about a minute after you pour dump the cast (in some cases not even a minute just depends how big the cast is) and I’d clean up the water in the garage too lol molten aluminum and puddles don’t mix 😅 but he did pretty good for a guy that’s never been around molten metal!

    The wool stuff, you can get a rigidizer for it, so that it can last a lot longer. I had a hard time applying it to the inside, so when this one gets to where it needs replaced ( like the crucible it should be considered a consumable part, albeit slower, according to the listing) im gonna get 2 bottles so i can dip the wool into the hardener, but it does take a while to cure and harden, which is why i am here watching this xp. If you plan on using the smelter a lot i highly recommend trying that out, so you can get more use from the same stuff

    the ceramic donut goes in the bottom of the furnace to set the crucible on, if it came with (2) donuts then the second one is for placing your hot crucible on after removing it from the furnace

    Need to spray the molds, I'm taking that gas line before you trip over it, don't put water near your modes, open up a door. Stomp you cans down it goes a lot faster. Next time you do this take a reading how hot is sheet rocks getting above head. One more thing replace the battery in that smoke detector by the look of the door find you strongly suggested other than that good first attempt you'll get there

    • @chickenhawkfarmstead8478
      @chickenhawkfarmstead8478  Před rokem +1

      What are you spraying the molds with. Un crushed cans melt faster in my experience. The roof is 16 foot high, and the door was a total unrelated incident. You're totally right about the battery, and I have ventilation fans running in the loft. But yes, it takes time to learn it all, and I hope with each burn, I get a little better and safer. I do appreciate the advice.

    You better make sure that there is no water or humidity in your cans , if you do you might have an explosion splashing molten metal everywhere ! Pre-heating the cans or metal is a must before plunging it in molten metal.

    • @chickenhawkfarmstead8478
      @chickenhawkfarmstead8478  Před 8 měsíci

      It's really not that big of a deal. Yes, lots of water, but some won't make it explode. It's just the water Turing to steam and it "can" throw melted metal. This is way I put the cans in open side up and don't crush them. Any moisture left in burns off and comes out the opening. If doing ingots they may have lots of moisture just place on top while heating up the crucible like you do with your molds.
