Whats The Exact Cost Of Gas To Melt Metals- Melting Copper & Brass - Zábava
I love the simplicity of your videos; No cheesy dialogue, no cheesy music, just a guy melting stuff (with occasional shots of his dog), and yet it's oh so entertaining! Cheers mate! 🍺
I agree! I can't stand it when someone plays music in the background.
Don’t forget the snap of a beer can !
you say that you don't like cheesy dialogue or cheesy music and you are subscribed to hishe?
I think it’s important to point out, this was one brick... If the furnace is already hot, it’s cheaper to do the second, third and forth brick.
Also, he’s taking it from scrap to a higher grade piece of metal worth more. He can even sell them for a premium online. Definite a money maker if you possess the know how and tools like he does. Nice work.
Very good point
Also scrap turned into shiny bars are worth alot more when selling online
Sure, but this is called pessimistic calculation, so its actually very good to see the result in this way first.
@@natebarker5698: What does premium price for 1 kg look like?
I love that popping crackling noise from the molten metal looks amazingly terrifying
Best melting channel on utube hands down 👏
Without a doubt.
Utube...really...utube.......you can’t spell brandnames different if you want that you moron..

Thanks for actually puting in the time to do basic conversions for other countries unlike 90% of other channels.....
That is actually really useful. Been wondering myself how much it was costing me in gas to melt stuff down. Also a video suggestion for you. A beginners tip guide where you show the things you have learned over the years of melting down metal.
For me the time it takes in all the preparation, stripping wire, cutting it to fit the furnace, getting all the stuff out and ready, weighing the material, buffing and polishing far out weights any cost in gas. It's the fun in doing all that plus the beautiful end result. I love just making ingots and I don't even have all the stuff yet to polish them as well as you do. I can't wait till I can make tools and ornaments. Your channel gave me a whole new hobby and it's good entertainment. Plus you answer questions, and even go through making informative vids about how it takes just a little gas to do a melt.
I recently finished building my own custom melting furnace for just shy of $40 USD and I found that the fuel costs for it are actually way lower than I thought. I melted like 2.5kg of aluminum for $1.50 of regular grilling charcoal. I was legitimately amazed
And now I've got a dozen aluminum corn cobs because that's the only cheap thing I could find to cast bars in
Please tell me how.you did it

Let me just say I love your channel. No BS just pure enjoyable content. Makes me want to start scrapping and melting down stuff to see the bars pile up.
Thank you for another great video. It makes me happy that you can get several melts out of a tank. I had thought you might only get one or two. I know it depends on how much metal you are melting, the quality of furnace, and weather conditions. Cooling off on ice is is the best idea in CZcams land. Great to see Ingot again. Cute lil bugger.
I’m glad you liked this video. I appreciate your comment, Thankyou for watching my friend 😁👍🏻
Yes! I've been waiting for a video like this, I've been wanting to get into casting lately but couldn't really get any solid answers regarding propane. Awesome vid, thank you my friend
No worries frank in my last few vids I melt a heap of different types and sizes of metal and show total gas usage costs so that may help give a better idea aswell .
Very nice pours!
And the bars are great!
I was certain that the pours are worth the cost of the gas, and you've proved it!
Not a bad rate of consumption, and I'm sure your could make it more efficient if you had a mind to. ;D
Thanx for a great experiment D!
Next, how much electricity to make big block of ice! 😀
Thanks for sharing that info, I was curious how much it cost and will check out your next video. Cheers
You forgot to include the cost of keeping his weekly video beer cold.
Nah bro in the winter he just cuts a huge chunk of ice and puts it in his freezer for "later use"
@@z4dot996 Winter in Australia ? Only snow an Auzzy sees is when he scrapes the ice out of his refrigerator so he has more room to chill his beer. Otherwise, great video !
That's cheaper than one would think. Just goes to show just how much cheaper it is to use gas versus coal.
I always feel like all raw material is super cheap. The cost of finished products is really mostly labor costs.
Agreed except for fuel. He was getting under $1.50 for each bar when with charcoal or coal it would cost at least twice that.
coal is a refined resource while gas is a base resource so it makes sense c:
@@angrydragonslayer , good point.
@@angrydragonslayer gas is more refined than coal, l have work @ gas plants & petrochemical plants.
I hadn't read everyone's comments yet, but it was cool when you looked into the crucible the first time with the copper. I didn't know if anyone had seen it, but I saw a little smiling skull 💀 waving its hand at you
Its about time someone did this sort of cost analysis.
Not as cheap as people think
Just finished watching this video again so relaxing yet very inspiring, cheers from Utah!
I used to watch another channel like this but I got bored of it and I found this one... And I'm glad I did!
Well then so am I 😁👍🏻
This is a great video, I know its a few years back, but probably pretty relevant.....
Nice to see a hobby that will not be a black hole for money to flow into
Thanks Big Stack D
Thank you Sir, that was a very interesting and useful experience. Now we know it really costs nearly nothing. Keep going the good stuff !
Your channel has officially become something I look forward to on Fridays. Thanks for another great video. I thought of a video request that I promise I can give you a bunch of watches on at least. While your devil forge furnace is mighty and fearsome, the sound of it is also incredibly relaxing. I sometimes find it difficult to not get droopy eyed when you put it on full blast. Any chance you could do like a 1 hour video of just that sound? Anyway thanks again for a great video. Have a great day.
Ad blocker off Bigstack just uploaded. Nice work bro, ur one of the few people that listen to us and answer our questions. Give Ingot a pat from me plz..
Ingot, thanks for the reminder.
You're fucking the youtuber with adblock off. Turn it on for the good guys, turn it off for the mainstream bullshit.
Interesting video. I like this guy’s videos so much I watch all the ads in their entirety because I know it helps him out.
Yup
It certainly does help me matey thanks heaps 👍🏻😁
Thank you. Your end scene there was pretty sweet....your "prize" shelf! Nice work!!!
Nice video, love your precision. Suggestion: when you make your ice block, make it so there's an ingot-shaped indent at the top so when you drop the hot copper ingot onto the top it doesn't slide off so easily.
Your channel has really blown up over the past handful of months good work man
It certainly has 👍🏻thanks for your support my friend😁
The sound of metal
Being rapidly cooled on ice is one of my favorite parts of your videos. And the pics of the pups. We have Boston terriers.
Great Video BigD, the Copper-Ingot is absolutely beautiful and HURRAY for showing so much times how the Ingot cool down on Ice. 🤗 👍
Just seeing ingot the dog gets me like happy asf lol
Excellent advice to preheat the molds!
It must be said: what I like about this channel besides the great topic: The absence of background music/noise. I do not mind the sounds of the action, i hate with a passion the electronic keyboards that seem to dominate almost all videos at this moment.
So well done. A great example of how to make something wonderful to watch.
And I notice the little jokes, like writing the weight down to 9 digits after the dot.
You do funny stuff that makes me laugh 😄, I enjoy your channel. Good work.
Mate, you ought to look at the 47 kg bottles, I got around 80 ingots and 3 castings from 1 bottle so far. You don't have to worry about the tank freezing till it's almost empty either. Great video as always man, cheers 😎👍
👏👏👏✅✅
Dang!
Hard to transport though! Do you get it delivered/ refilled onsite?
Thank you so very much for the conversion chart. Who would have thought it works out to almost 1USD per kilo to melt. That's way cheaper than I thought.
Another pour with those beautiful shiny ingots as a result. Always looking forward to Friday. Keep up the nice work.
Lots of fun for just a little bit of money, & then on top of that, you do have something that is worth something. I did some Aluminum cans using Live Oak wood (free around here) & a blower, & made me a bunch of cupcakes it was fun & is neat to have, I want to do some other metals some day like you are doing. I'm saving up metals now, maybe I'll just get a set up like yours, worth the money in gas just to make it easier, hotter & safer I'm sure. thanks for the uploads.
Cans in their raw form are a known alloy.
A home made ingot is unknown.
I would not be surprised if the cans were worth more than the ingot.
Also, if you wanted to make a functional part, you might want an alloy that os stronger than the alloy for cans. Used pistons as an example are going to give you a lot stronger casting over cans.
@@MrRShoaf
Yes I'm sure all you said it true. And if I do cast something special someday I'm sure it will not be anything that will need to be a pure exact alloy or pure aluminum. Just for fun, but if it makes me some money or a useful item that's great also. Thanks. take
If Copper is getting 6 bucks a kilo and brass is getting about $3.50
That's $10.42 in copper and $5.13 in brass
That $15.55 total minus gas cost of $5.90 for a tidy profit of $9.65.
Well done!!
@quickdryfilms Well that's the hobby mate.
@@grundell2930 sniffing melting copper is a hobby? Medicare might be free but the poisoning is forever.
jane blogs fuck you’re thick. Medicare is not free they take the money from you and every other working man and woman weekly so pls stop calling the government free.
@quickdryfilms more money if it's 'clean,' that's why you strip the outer part of the cord off, too.
@quickdryfilms scrap yards give more money if it's clean. Transporting ingots to a scrapyard is infinitely more economical than transporting unprocessed scrap.
Why is everyone so concerned about the amount of money it costs and if it's profitable?
I'm sure you're tired of repeating yourself again and again. When will they understand it's a hobby and the cost isn't a concern to you? What matters is you enjoy doing it and it gives you a personal sense of satisfaction and pride. Thanks for sharing it with us. I love watching you. I hate that people always have to be negative and question why you do this. It's not like they share the cost. Live and let live!
Thank you Susan I appreciate your friendly comment and support🤗. Yes I’m not sure why people think I’m in it for profit as I have never ever said that but as you know it’s just a hobby , I love to do it and I love to share it😁.
At least this information i always wanted to have....... That's cheap..... Ah and please show more often your dog..... He is so cute.👍
High speed melting , love it ! You need some more hundreds , to start the furnace !
Nice collection. Metal over ice best part of the video. Don't know how i get here but i liked it!
That is an awesome display of metal on those shelves !!!!
Awesome. Not as bad as I was thinking. So you get several melts out of a full bottle.
Finally an Aussie channel with Aussie measurements!
One mans junk metal is another melted treasure. Thanks for the video
Right on mate, I enjoy your videos and appreciate when you upload extra videos during the week. I don’t mind helping you buy a tank of propane every now and then , it’s my way of saying thanks.
Cheers bro I appreciate that😁👍🏻🍻
Those are some really good looking ingots
Also the dog
A good hobby, keeps you out of the pubs at night!
Ooh, green flames! Beautiful
Thank you for making this man, another great and informative video

im impressed those shelves have not pulled off the wall ,, good work on installation
Good info and well presented with no fuss, thanks.
Very useful info, as always Thanks for posting.
You are freaking awesome dude. Thanks for the video
ice cream tub ice block making the colour change that bar was the highlight for me....lol look how many people in the last videos comments were so sceptical because of the gas price too lol, good job man , Hi from Coffs.
Not bad making money every time great information amazing video. excalibur next.
Thanks much for the info. Wish I had bought a gas furnace. My electric one will probably take gobs of electric power. Love you videos!!😀
First question is how long does each melt take? Second is if you used a larger forge, melting pot you could melt more at one time. Thus reducing cost.Third you get a thumbs up for wasting all that ice. When I melt Aluminum I pour it into the brick mode than remove the slag if needed. I melt sixty plus pounds of Aluminum at one time with a Modified Dakota fire pit and blower. Best video on the cost of melting so far.
Thanks for making this one. I have been curious about fuel costs and I know others have been, too. I wonder how your old furnace compares to this one.
I never knew I wanted a wall full of colored metal bricks, but suddenly I got an urge...
Those Green Flames.... Soooo beautiful ❤️
Matey, Love you Very Much, May God bless you with more❣️
Was looking forward to this video thanks!
It would be interesting to see if you converted your furnace's burner to a ribbon burner and forced outside air in with the gas if that would use less gas for the same amount of metals melted.
Great info, thanks for the vid. Question: does the ice reduce surface porosity or otherwise affect results other than reducing the cooling/ handling time?
Honestly, not nearly as much as I was expecting. I expected it to cost around 4-5 USD per melt.
Very cool 😎 great information
I wonder when that shelf is going to collapse... just a few LBS on there. Lol
EYYYY YOU FOLLOWED MY CONTAINED ICE TIP 😁
love the end bit with the wall display :)
You should check out my latest video buddy. I moved to a bigger property and built an actual treasure room for all the pieces 👊🏻😁
Great video mate
Interesting like alway, great work!
Nicely presented and informative BigstackD, resting the ingot on ice was a nice touch as was your fantastic trophy collection at the end. What was the white powder that you added to the brass and how can you tell the difference between copper and brass please? Thanks.
This channel is so interesting.
The point is i don’t know where i can find brass and copper (i live in France)
Keep up the good work 👍
Cheers matey, Yes definitely interesting & not a normal casting channel that blasts bloody techno in your face !!
If People want to see metal melting & Casting they can come here and not be bombarded with shit music and some idiot talking about nothing!! 😁👍🏻
Scrap everything , copper, aluminum, sooner or later you'll have enough resources to play with.
Love your channel mate
I like science experiments like this one.
I love how you always slow mo the ice cube getting broken 😂
Hey bigstackD, whats your fav metal to melt and pour into bars? Copper is my personal fav. Also does nordic gold pour into molds well? If it does I'd like to see a nordic gold hatchet video.
I made a separate stand for preheating my metals using free wood, that cut my propane costs by 70%.
If you preheat like he does while melting it cost nothing extra.
@@nintendogamer5472 it cost more.
When you get time I think it would be really cool to chart cost of melted metal vs propane cost. Have one graph per metal type melted.
That would be awesome
Fantastic Video!
Awesome vids dude!! You could probably make a cool video of how you made them solid water blocks you cool off the metals with lol. thx
I was thinking just this morning about how much it cost in propane to melt the metals! You must have read my mind!🤪 Thanks for sharing 👍🇨🇦
I live in Alaska where propane is about $2.89 per pound right now. With the smaller forge and burner I get about 200 lbs of aluminum from scrap per 5 lb bottle. Non-scrap aluminum is about $0.85 a lb here. It costs about $12 to fill a bottle and I make about $160 selling the aluminum.
BTW, my main source of aluminum is cans (soda, beer, etc.) so it has a high loss and inefficient cost ratio. The small amounts of stuff like extruded and cast aluminum I get (still increases value turning it into ingots) makes it even more worth my while.
And for those wondering, yes I remelt the can dross, but only once as it really isn't worth my time/money past that.
Worth every penny in entertainment value. Cheaper than golf too.
love your content. keep up the good work.
You got it Scotty 😁👍🏻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Love the viddy! Cheers!
6:43 *intense breathing intensifies* haha great video, man!
Another great vid by big stack I heard you breathing hard during the brass melt portion, glad to see you’re using a respirator. what are you using to flux your brass? I usually use borax seems to work pretty good.
Sweet ice flip
nice collection at the end!
Another great video👍 Just wondering how long it took to melt the 1 kg of copper because only 2 dollars worth of gas seems very CHEAP. Usually I can only get may be 5 possibly 6 melts of copper on one 8.5 kg bottle. Do you get the same amount of melts on a single bottle?
VERY COOL HOBBY MATE, I LIKE IT
Awesome 👏🏻
Found this video looking for the how you built your forge or what that may have cost you. On that 2nd Ice cube, I heard you think "she'll be right". Thanks for the cool content I subbed
