I'm in a pretty privileged position as far as trans people go, and I started being very suspicious of Rowling waaay before she became so open about her views, so it wasn't a shock to me, but what is shocking is how many people are more mad at someone pointing out Rowling's transphobia than about the transphobia itself. Many of them are transphobes themselves, but I think many have nothing against us per se, but would still rather throw us under the bus than start thinking critically about the media they consume and its creators. And it's infuriating how you can't argue with these people, they'll say "She only said sex is real" and no matter how much evidence you give them to the contrary, they will repeat that line ad nauseum. It's terrible how they completely control the conversation, and that's why I'm so happy about every cis ally, especially an ally with a platform, who isn't afraid to call transphobia what it is.
