    "The History of Hindu India" (Part Two) was developed by the editors of Hinduism Today magazine in collaboration with Dr. Shiva Bajpai, Professor Emeritus of History, California State University Northridge. It is intended to provide an authentic presentation of the history of India and Hinduism for use in American middle and high school classes, as well as Hindu temple study groups and general presentations on the Hindu religion and history.
    Covering Indian history from 300 to 1100 ce, this documentary is based on the second chapter of the textbook, "The History of Hindu India," published in 2011. It opens with magnificent footage of the famed Kailasanatha Temple in Maharashtra, then presents the political history of India at a time when a third of the world's population lived there. It explores the Gupta Empire, the Huna invasions, the visits of Buddhist monks Faxian and Xuanzang, the initial incursions of Arab Muslim armies in the 8th century, and the rise of the great Chola kingdom of South India. City and village life is described, along with marriage arranging and jati, the joint family structure. This period also witnessed the beginning of the Bhakti Movement and the construction of thousands of famous and still active Hindu temples.
    For more information and for class lesson plans based on the book, visit www.hinduismtoday.com/education/. This documentary is directed and produced by Sushma Khadepaun; produced and narrated by Roger (Raj) Narayan. Funded by the Uberoi Foundation, Institute for Curriculum Advancement, this film may be freely distributed for educational purposes.

    I have so much respect for India! Through all the outside influence, colonialism and history, India has never lost her identity, and appearance. Although there is a lot that needs to be restored and even changed or abandoned, India has retained its true self. I am proud of my Indian ancestry.

    It is unfortunate that the video coverage do not include the Badami Chalukyas, who thwarted the Harshaavardhana's conquest towards South,on the banks of Narmada River, which time was LARGEST Kingdom in South India, with enormous contributions to the Indian Culture & many foreign tourists visited during their period.Chalukyas known for the Cave Temples,Aihole Temple Modules,Finishing art Temples in Pattadkal, which are well acclaimed all over the world,& are constructed between 6th-8th centuries.
    Further,no mention of Kadambas, first empire of South India. No mentione of Hoysalas, whose artistic poetry can be seen in Belur & Halebidu.
    No mention Kerala Kings,Andhra Kings etc.
    OBVIOUSLY,VIDEO DO NOT RECOGNISE THESE,EXCEPT THE TAMILIAN KINGS &THEIR CULTURE/INFLUENCE.AUDIENCE ARE DEPRIVED OF SUCH IMP LANDMARKS IN INDIAN HISTORY DURING THE PERIOD.

But during Gupta period and onwards India has come to terms with great religious tolerance which has led to prosperous and glorious cultural phase in the subcontinent.

    Hinduism is so much more than caste system. Manu smrti was obscure until the British weaponized it. Nobodies religion in india focuses on caste. Vaisnava are anti caste, Saiva, anti caste, Sakta, anti caste. Those are the big three right there. Then buddhism which is like the counter culture of Hinduism is also anti caste. European focus on caste is the by-product of the hermeneutics of suspicion inherited from the protestant dislike for priests which traces back to antisemetism and the blame upon the jews for the crucifixion.

    This is incomplete information. Where is the mention about Satavahana kingdom? First kingdom to consolidate most of Indian Subcontinent and Hindu kingdoms into one rule, even before Mouryas and Guptas. I don't understand why Satavahanas are always ignored in Indian history. Even now we celebrate Ugadi and Gudipadwa as hindu new year which is celebrated symbolic to start of Satavahana Shaka (age).

    • @CanadianHaryanvi17
      @CanadianHaryanvi17 Před 6 lety +2

      1. Read the title again, its the history from 300 CE. Satavahana empire was ended approximate 100 years before that.
      2. Satavahana were a great deccan power , but they never ruled big part of India even at their peak. Maurya and Gupta empires were much larger. In fact Satavahana weren't even biggest south Indian empire. Vijayanagar, Chola and Pandya ruled much bigger areas.
      3. You are again wrong in stating that they were before Mauryas . Mauryan Empire was about to end around 187 BC after a rule of almost 200 years when Satavahana started growing.

    The viewers also need to be told that chronology of present version of Indian history till about 1000 CE is very very speculative in nature. At the most, this version of Indian history can be taken as a tentative narrative till a lot of new facts that have popped up in the past couple of decades, fit in the chronology.
    To give an example, it seems that the Sandrocottos (contemporary of Alexander) mentioned by Greek historian Arrian and identified as Chandragupta Maurya from the Puranic king lists by William Jones in 1780-90s (when earth was supposed to have been created on 4004 BCE by the biblical God), is almost certainly Chandragupta of the Gupta dynasty (which also had an "Ashoka" - Samudragupta was called Ashokaditya). So the Gupta dynasty instead of being at 4th century CE goes back to 3rd century BCE.
    Again, all the history constructed so far has been on the basis of Saka era that was supposed to have started from 78 CE. And many epigraphic evidences have been overlooked assuming them to be fraudulent as the events mentioned in them (like solar/ lunar eclipses) didn't match with the facts. However, another Saka era starting from about 580 BCE has surfaced which puts everything discarded so far back in place. So king Vikramaditya, discarded as a mythical figure so far, has to be placed near 57 BCE and Varahamihira at 1st century BCE (not in 6th century CE). Dates of Buddha and Shankaracharya would also need to be pushed back.
    Numerous Astronomical observations (eg winter solstice 3 months away at the end of March instead of in December) in Vedic literature have been found that push back its antiquity beyond 4000 BCE thus dwarfing the Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations.
