  • Older homes have furnace vent pipe in the chimney without a liner Today's building codes require that a 6 inch stainless steel liner be installed in the chimney to remove the gases

This is 100% wrong! Please nobody go based off of this video! You should never put a mortar / cement crown over metal that's not even sealed because now that entire crown is going to lift in no longer than 1 year!

We have a hole in the masonry inside the chimney but the chimney sweep said that we have too many BTUs for a liner to be used and that we have to have it rebuilt, true?

you are required to have the liner insulated per code

+Matthew Rhoades it would also be safer to ride in your vehicle with a motorcycle helmet and yet can you name one person that does?

Interior chimney no need or code for insulation! The only part that I might insulate would be from roof up and that’s a big maybe. If it’s an exterior chimney then you should remove tile and insulate the full liner, but if you leave the tile intact then there is no need for insulation if the chimney was already drafting properly in the colder months.

Agree 100%, no upward slope. Maybe use double wall typeB vent

Why did they use that flex metal on the oil furnace venting. Double wall flex metal may not be code either for oil furnace. Went the cheap route I know the correct vent pipe is extremely high but it's your home not a out house... use the correct materials

Can you use this kit for a Heat and Glo gas fireplace insert? I have heard contradicting things about using aluminum vs stainless steel liners on a gas insert using natural gas. Liner would be completely vertical with no 90 bends. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Amateur at best the needs to be a drip edge on that chimney according to code

This is probably the worst example of relining I have ever seen. From installation techniques (who decided to attach the cap to the liner before it was down?) to sizing, to the fact that there was no tee body attached before running it down. Oh and the crown? Ever hear of a drip edge or an expansion joint? This is why you need a CSIA professional and not some "local guy down the block".

I'm big on free speech, but this vid is going to do more harm than good. Respectfully, it could be re-titled " Bad Furnace Liner Installation" or just removed. This is unsafe and against code.
