best dumplings and standard dumpling dipping we have in the philippines is just a combination of classic soy sauce + spoonful water to mellow down the saltiness, calamansi juice and the chili garlic, nothing can beat it
Take a drink every time he mentions "old ladies" or "Beijing". Drink a shot every time he mentions this recipe is authentic. I'm basically hammered right now.
Fantastic recipe and really great presentation. I wish i could roll wrappers like that. I still buy the commercial ones. I was not aware of that vinegar and just use rice vinegar, I will get some of that soon. I already looked it up on line. Thanks for that information.
They are. Definitely give the recipe a try. And thanks for watching. Be sure to hit the "subscribe" button in the lower right corner under the video. We'd love to have you as one of our subscribers.
looks amazing! And loved the easy going way you teach. I don't like anything spicy - can you recommend how to make a dipping sauce that is similar to what is served in restaurants with scallion pancakes please? Looking forward to more videos!
🙏 thank you! For a simple dipping sauce 2tbsp Soy Sauce (regular, not low sodium) 1tsp. Water 1tsp. Sugar 1/4. Sesame Oil I’d use warm water and dissolve the sugar first, then add to the soy sauce & finish with sesame oil!
Absolutely, I’d shred the cabbage instead of mince, this will help retain shape when rolling. Also add a touch of shredded carrot for color! For egg rolls, the pork is typically pre-cooked too so the small granular chunks of pork are evenly distributed through the product!

What is wrong with the people at Martha Stewart Living / Dotdash Meredith? You had Chef Brian Tsao on your channel and you never used him again. Clearly, he got pissed off with you because right after this video was made he started his own CZcams channel and is getting views that you can only dream of acquiring. For that matter, Martha doesn't seem happy with Dotdash Meredith either. Seems the executive office needs to clean house of nearsighted and potentially racist employees who are unable to see the big picture.
How do I buy the chili oil. I got some from Amazon that was oil with crunchiest in it. Will that work ? Do you have a recipe so I can make chili oil homemade ?
You absolutely can, however traditionally the dumpling has to be packed a little differently, called “Guo Tie”... same filling & skin, just shaped differently w a flat bottom to get a smooth crispy side
There's a reason this 2yr old video has 100 comments. Sorry, I guess in N China they don't pour hot oil onto the veg, they don't use Chinese onions, don't stir the meat and stab the dumpling with their chop sticks. A lot of old Chinese ladies are turning in their Graves. 😢😂
From Healthline.com: "WHAT IS GLUTEN? Gluten is a family of storage proteins - formally known as prolamins - that are naturally found in certain cereal grains, such as wheat, barley, and rye. Many different prolamins fall under the gluten umbrella, but they can be further classified based on the specific grains in which they’re found. For instance, glutenins and gliadins are the prolamins in wheat, secalins are in rye, and hordeins are in barley. Gluten offers a variety of functional culinary benefits and is responsible for the soft, chewy texture that is characteristic of many gluten-containing, grain-based foods. When heated, gluten proteins form an elastic network that can stretch and trap gas, allowing for optimal leavening or rising and maintenance of moisture in breads, pasta, and other similar products. Because of these unique physical properties, gluten is also frequently used as an additive to improve texture and promote moisture retention in a variety of processed foods. Gluten-free diets are more common than ever, but gluten does not pose a health risk to the majority of the population. That said, people with celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten and must eliminate it from their diets to avoid harmful, adverse reactions."
Looks like Everyday Food is not so every day anymore. I understand they switched producers, and she completely and totally destroyed this channel. Even worse, look who she had. Brian Tsao! Instead of signing him to a contract, it looks like they let him go. The guy went off and did his own channel and is getting way more views than this sorry excuse for a channel will ever get. When I first watched this, I thought, wow, this channel is finally heading in the right direction. Oh well.
This is a really cool cooking video and looks full of delicious. Keep it up and if you feel like it look at my channel. With kind regards Kitchendevil's
Why do people talk soooooooooo much on these cooking channels? It drives me INSANE! Like effen get to the recipe already! I don't need to know your whole life story while making the food....🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
((0:23)). You just discredited any authenticity you had by calling it Beige-ing, when it’s pronounced Bay-JING 😂. After you said you “lived there six years” usually people learn how to say their own city. 🤣
Thanks for watching! Check the description for Chef Brian Tsao's Chinese Dumpling Recipe!
Is all purpose flour just plain flour??
I am Chinese, and this video deserves a like! It completely passes the test.
I've used this recipe many times and it is amazing!
I love his presentation style. Hope we see more of Brian.
Thank you!
I think I am hard on the “new”chefs on Martha’s channel. I really enjoy him. Entertaining personable and easy to watch and learn from.

Glad you enjoyed it. The vinegar, for those of you reading the comments, is Zhenjiang vinegar.
Thank you 🙏 they look amazing, will definitely try them

I'll be making this for my birthday tomorrow! I hope I find scallions in the supermarket 🥲

No add cold water while Boiling?
I know it is cheating but I use a tortilla press to flatten the skins. way easier and faster
I need to give that a shot!
If you let it rest overnight will it still work?
Homemade soup dumpling
i see people put salt in the cabbage to get excess water out, but this step was left out?
🤤🥰🥰🥰🥰
Is this the same as mando?
I think you’re talking about Zhenjiang vinegar, not zhejiang.
The recipe in the video description states Zhenjiang vinegar.
Yes, I mis pronounced it and realized it after filming 🤦♂️... I just called it 醋 my whole life
When I make tamales it’s a family affair. We have a kitchen tamale party. I’m going to make your dumplings,
I thought these were fried after the water bath boil....to get a little color on them? Plain white doesn't look very appetizing.
They taste very good. I actually preferred this way because you really enjoy the sauce. When fried you get that oily taste.
