Keep things rusty, except your tools!
The tracks on a Weasel are what are referred to as "Rubber Band" tracks (as opposed to the Plate and Pin used on tanks). Each Rubber Band is made up of steel cables encased in rubber. The track plates are riveted to brackets that are attached to the steel cables. Rubber Band tracks are lighter and more flexible than Plate and Pin tracks. The drawback to Rubber Band track is that when the rubber cracks as it ages, water penetrates to the steel cables and weakens them, increasing the likelihood of having a track break. The chain on the one track is someone's attempt to take the strain off the original steel cables. Vehicle restorers have also used quarry conveyor belting and heavy roller chain for the same purpose.
My wife is busting at the seams to have a weasel. I’m looking forward to seeing more on this project.
Patric Tipton has a lot of videos on the weasels. “Portrayal”
I believe that Patrick Tipton at "Portrayal Press" is the premier Weasel authority right now.
I know where there are several. My Dad rebuilt them in the 60's and 70's
It's nice to see someone who works on vehicles without ls swapping ,lifting or dropping everything on the channel..
That’s awesome, can’t wait to see her move !!!
Oh yeah, man. Anything with tracks on it grabs my attention!
That's an almost adorable little rig
Oh Man ! I am so happy for you . That Weasel found a good home .
That does look like a solid base to start with.
Right on preserve the history 👍
That is cool another cool project to do.
Now that is a cool vehicle, will be amazingly useful in winter and for pulling stuff out of the woods, get her floating again.
Now that looks like a cool project! I think I’d look for a way to keep the “inside” dry from the weather. Even if just a heavy tarp over a board or something. I’d hate to clean it up just to fill it back up with 2’ of snow…
Nice whip!! Hope you can also get it to float! I'm sure you can get it to run!
too cool nice find
Great stuff !! Thank you for sharing your journey !! Continue on Young Man !! God bless you and yours !!!! Eddy
Never knew about these. Looking forward in seeing it run around.
Thanks for posting.
WOW! This redefines Cool!!! Look forward to seeing you flying low on the snow! and all other surfaces.
Hey that's a nice find love the WW2 relics.
Awesome. Can’t wait to see the future videos on this new rig. Good job on saving it Man.
That’s Excellent Great Save
Awesome find...gonna be a epic..backyard build...can't wait to see her ripping around..thanks for all the cool content.
Really cool. It would be a ton of fun. Good luck with your new parts. I will be watching.👍
Loooking forward to seeing this one move under it's own power again! Would LOVE to be able to find one of those around here, but I'm sure they're getting very few and far between now!
we had one pop up for sale here two years ago, running and deriving for 4500.00
Cant wait to see what You do with this old Unicorn..Nice Save...Great job Sir. Love to see a younger generation saving old Iron..Again Great Find. And Video.
Wow that's awesome.... You find all the cool stuff.... Can't wait to see you get started on that going to be great 👍👍👍. Have a good week
What an AWESOME find!!! I cannot wait to see this going together. I don't have enough thumbs for the thumbs up i want to give it!!!
Great grab up
So cool. Glad you have it. Looking forward to seeing you fix her up. Looks like fun!
Would watch every episode on the Weasel !
Nice find on the Weasel, will make a decent project machine for sure! The QM-56 Scorpion gun carrier had similar sized tracks, the tracks themselves were channel steel for the grousers, with heavy rubber belting,,the tracks were about 20-24 inches wide, and used a different drive sprocket and bogie wheelsthan your Weasels tracks, but a lot tougher built
Can't wait for the videos!
Talk about a piece of history 😁👍👍👍👍👍
I totally love this channel You rock brother!!!
That weasel is a groover, no end of fun when you get that going. I hope you can find the parts you need and the engine is not ceased. Sure hope you get a good summer so you get some project progress and you have no shortage of projects for sure. At least you do get things done, I know guys that could not restore an old chainsaw that was going when they got it.
Can't wait to see you work on it.
Owning a M29c would be really cool. And would come in handy in Alaska.
Nice find 👍and I know you getting running not in bad shape for it age . I have seen those in old movies and it a great addition for you .
Looking forward to the Weasel build!
That will be a fun project
Never saw one before can't wait until you start working on it Great find bro Fireman 🔥🔥🔥
Love the WWII machinery
That's a pretty cool project, looking forward to seeing it back together and running again
Great save. I'm glad it isn't going to be scrapped.
That is a diamond in the ruff but she will shine up
Dang that is awesome!! Glad you got one that’s un-molested
Wow , what a good get. That thing is really in remarkably good shape. Most of the ones you see are completely ragged out, or nice and therefore unreasonably high priced. I'm glad to see you saved it and hope you can find the parts to bring it around. Looking forward to seeing the process. Congratulations.
My uncle had one of those on a low lands river property on the snake river, exactly like yours. This was back in the 50s but it impressed my brother and I. Way cool project worth your time. Great find.
Another great find! thanks for your efforts. Onward!
Nice. Go anywhere fun machine.
That's awesome, man! I just picked one up myself and can't wait to get it up and running!
Great find and close to home. What could be better!
Love the Studebaker!
Nice save! It will be sweet if and when ya get it back to working as it was meant to be. But also a time consuming job that is well worth it.
Looks like an interesting build! Not a common piece of equipment . You'll come up with the answers I am sure! Thanks for the video, all the best to all and God Bless!
Tracked rigs are great !!! Today I found an Otter Tracked rig (Amphibious!) in a Backyard in Anchorage! There is also a homebuild one using Otter parts in the same yard. In another yard here there are TWO Nodwell Juggernauts.
Keep up the great videos
Never seen something like this 👍 great channel. Love the old Ford bump sides you have. You just can't kill those.
They used the chain welded in to save that rubber that would chew itself up in a short time as its not a long life rubber.. kinda like the tires they had then. I used one all the time for dad in his logging jobs and later when I would buy a cedar sale for shake bolts (used for making shakes on roofs) so the swamp was no longer we pack them out on our backs... We could find them in every army or navy surplus sale... sometimes they got right expensive to first buy but when folks found out they got left walking out of the woods with all their hunting gear...(often left right where they broke down) people put them up for sale... I never seen them in vietnam but that doesn't mean they were not there. Even my late brother used them hunting and would work for hours trying to get working. A lot of them also had flathead ford sixes in them for power, yes they were right quick and most of them got broke for that reason going through the brush and stuff at high speed tore the undercarriage up
Great find
What a wonderful little project that will be 😄
I have a m-29
Looks like yours has original tracks.
I’m in Fairbanks.
My father worked Studebaker during WWII building these.
That tin boat would fly over the snow I'm thinkin'.
Way cool!!!!
Looks like something awesome to fix up.
Wow! Super cool piece. Hope you restore this one.
Good find man 👍 👍 👍 👍
Extremely cool fine. Great project and I’m 100% in.
By the way, motors run on electricity, engines run on gas. Just giving you a hard time love the channel.
lookin forward this- will be awesome !
Looking forward to that
🤞 Stayin tuned!
👍👍
Nice!
Very cool project! I will be watching!
Awesome score 👏
OMG What a find!!!!
Bailer belting works great to reinforce the tracks.
Awesome vehicle can't watch to see what you do with it.
You need to restore it (make it completely usable for its perpose) including paint. That's awsome. I'd love to find something like that.
Pretty sweet!
awesome find!!!
I remember them being used at ski areas in Northern NY back in the 60's. Tracks were a problem back then too and they had a rep for overheating. If you can get it going, that's a piece of history!
Thats looks like a perfect Daily to me, haha
Good save
Too cool!
so cool find
My grandfather was a welder at Studebaker-he may have worked on that one...
Yeah way cool !!! Hope you fix it !
A friend of mine has one of these and put a 200 Ford in line six with a c4 auto transmission and you can't stop it. Will literally go anywhere, great score on a excellent project. Can't wait to see it going.
Very cool
Way, way cool! My wood lot in Maine was first harvested in 1950 by a guy who took the turret off a WW2 Sherman tank to tow equipment up the side of the mountain. Studebaker trucks hauled out the wood. Great project you have going., keep up posted. Owned a 1952 Studebaker Commander...better performance than my second girlfriend...Studebaker always had good engineering.
An Italian friends father used a German StuG he found on his field next to Monte Cassino, to work on his land. Regards from the Battle of the Bulge area, Belgium
Cool rig for sure, it would be neat to reporter it with a little kubota diesel or similar
Awesome man just found your channel looking up weasels, I’m located in wasilla. Had one a few years ago and ended up selling it but I got another one and can’t wait to get it rolling
Mine has some modifications on it.
Cool, Cool, Cool!!! Going to be fun watching this one. 👏
