    I think I need to get The Housemaid out at the library tomorrow! I’ve heard so much about it, I’m sure I’ll like it.

    It’s not a Halloween episode of the simpsons I think it’s called Some Enchanted Evening and it traumatised me too!!! The babysitter bandit?!

    That babysitter character from the Simpsons is a thing of nightmares!! It's up there with the Witches!

    Not gonna lie, I really liked The One when I read it a couple years ago 🫢 it’s true that the writing was probably trash but I found the book very page turning and intriguing personally. Also YES PLEASE to a review of all Lisa Jewell books!! She’s my overall favorite thriller author!

    The Housemaid I read without knowing it was popular, I was HOOKED ON IT, absolutely changed me for awhile after reading it because it was intense, tragic and scary as fuck to think about happening irl, like truly I was in shock for a good few days after finishing because DAMN do I NEVER wish anyone to come across men like that ever.
    I've also read The Night she Disappeared and Yesssss that one also hooked me all the way through, loved it so much, ending is sad/happy though.

    Yes please for a Lisa Jewell video (The Night She Disappeared and Then She Was Gone are both incredible). I’d recommend The Only Suspect by Louise Candlish and The It Girl by Ruth Ware!

    I used to read so much but have kind of fallen off slightly, these videos are definitely helping me with deciding which books I should use to get back into the swing of it!

    Hi Georgia! Love your content sososo much, thank you! I watched a very interesting video yesterday, from The Book Leo, who had raeranked every single book she’d ever given 5* to into a tier list format - I thought that could be a really interesting concept for you to try! Love your channels and you seem like a really lovely person❤

    I agree with most of your reviews although I liked The One a little bit more than you (loved the concept but hated that it basically just turned into a domestic drama) and I liked none of this is true but wasn’t a fan of the ending (I have the same issue with Lisa Jewell’s books though but I still enjoy them overall)
    I can’t remember the push in much detail but I read it whilst I was pregnant haha
    I read it as being about a woman with postnatal depression which is maybe why some mums feel they can relate to it? I do remember hating the main character though 🙈

    Still loving the book channel! ❤ Maybe you could do a spoiler-free first part of a review and then have a spolier section, with a timestamp to skip to the next book for people who don't want to hear the spoilers?

    Yay, so happy for this video! All the algorithms have been trying to get me to read The Housemaid and now I may have to try it. Also, so glad to hear I wasn’t the only one who didn’t like Rock Paper Scissors!

    Oh my, after the intro I was afraid you didn't like "None of this is true" (and I can't wait to read it, I LOVE Lisa Jewell, enjoyed every book by her I've read so far, and there were six of them, I beileve 😅 ). So glad you recommend it, cause I would probably be a bit sceptical and enjoy it less knowing that you hated it 😛

    From your description The Push sounds very very similar to We Need to Talk About Kevin. Some of the plot points were practically identical (the lack of emotional connection at birth, the second child being the child the mother always wanted etc) the only real difference being the genders of the children

    I know it's not your genre but I would love to get your opinion on fantasy series like ACOTAR , A court of silver flames seems much more female positive than some of the others in the series. A Darker Shade Of Magic would interest me too.

    I was really interested by None of This is True but after hearing you say that it was a open ending... i don't know. I REALLY dislike open endings, they're very frustrating to me. I'm still kind of interested but i don't want to feel frustrated either, i don't know...

    Georgia, I agree that The One was pretty bad but I have to tell you - John Marrs is gay 😅 He's married to a man who is also called John. I had the physical copy of his book and it mentioned his husband in the about the author section.

    • @bluetheon
      @bluetheon Před 3 měsíci +3

      Just to make sure I wasn't misremembering, I looked it up and here's a quote from the Northampton Chronicle:
      "Personally, John knows he’s found “The One” in his husband John, who he met on the internet.
      The couple married in a private ceremony in New York and then had a celebration for family and friends back in the UK."

      @@storieswithgeorgiamarie they were more like chick lit/romance at the beginning, still great books about relationships in the 90/00s but she definitely made the right decision to write thrillers as she is so good at writing them!

  • @chrissyroberts2764
    @chrissyroberts2764 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I hated None Of This Is True. I found it stank of victim blaming and I hated how things were so twisted to make it seem like Josie seduced/entrapped Walter when she was a child?! She was a traumatised and neglected child who needed support not a man to take advantage. Which of course he did. Any man with an actual moral compass wouldn’t even entertain anything with a young person never mind a child so much younger than them. The power differentials are undeniably huge. I just hated the narrative of the crazy woman who is blamed for it all it jarred so much with me. I couldn’t finish the book for this reason. Tell me those basic facts the woman was married to a man she was with from the age of 15 who is nearly 30 years older than her and you’re not gonna convince me of anything other than her being a victim with shit tonnes of trauma to even be vulnerable to that sort of situation in the first place.

    • @amydougies3852
      @amydougies3852 Před 3 měsíci +1

      This this this. I cannot cannot fathom how people are not bothered by the suggestion that an adult man was manipulated BY AN UNDERAGE GIRL. Like what ?? And then Walter sort of getting like a redemption from the children because he was a good father , as if that negates his predatory behaviour.
      Also I feel there was a lot of suspension of disbelief with so much of the book, I just can’t explain how much I hated it , and I can’t possibly understand the love for the book, and I actually like Lisa Jewell normally

    • @chrissyroberts2764
      @chrissyroberts2764 Před 3 měsíci

      @@amydougies3852 yeah I was really enjoying the book until all this bullshit started then was so disgusted I had to put it down and now having skipped to the end it was the right decision. I guess it’s fiction and the characters aren’t real etc but it’s not like it’s science fiction I feel it’s pretty damaging as a message. Solidarity to anyone who has ever fallen prey to a predatory pedophile OR abuser who took advantage of vulnerability. I don’t care if you’re mentally ill or if you ‘wanted’ it no one should ever be in that situation the adult/person in a position of power should take control of the situation to protect not abuse.
