Wow man came out great !
Excellent work Jason.
"Using a picture of the case I designed the paint scheme in photoshop". . . . . genius; why didn't I ever think of that? Thanks.
Thanks Mercury! I love using tools to visualize a project before getting going, anything where I can iterate or version the concept before committing.
Thanks for the comment!
Your patience and care with all the taping really paid off. Your attention to detail and dedication to your craft shines through. That is an amazing looking case and now you got me wanting to do a First Order theme for my gun range case. Not sure I have your level of skill or talent, but I might just give it a try. Long live the Empire!
Give it a go for sure! This was my first attempt so hopefully after watching this video you are already more experienced ;) You hit it on the head that patience is the key, don't rush! Each step you see here was a whole night of taping and masking
@@carrickdubya4765 Nice one! Its amazing how much better something feels once you've customized it a bit, matching your bike sounds awesome! Best of luck!
Nice job! That's awesome!
great work
awesome work!
Added a bit of carbon scoring at the end.
Nicely done! Thanks for sharing your build.
Thanks! It was a fun project
Yep you nailed it! Well done!
Thanks Andrew!
Very good job indeed 👍
this look awesome !
Thanks!
Fellow Canadian here.
Nice work bud!!
Thanks IRMAO!
Inspiring! I may just have to give this a go as well!
Happy to hear! Would love to see what you come up with! :)
Wow my friend, I can just say it’s F****** Awesome!
Thanks Juan!
Superb!!!!
So Dope
Very nice work!
Thank you!
Great video and awesome work. I rather get this case, or something similar (Imperial or Scum) than any alternate art card, acrylics, mats, or dice as a prize. It just looks so epic. I'd get more use out of it than an alternate art card or acrylic templates.
Thanks for the kind words hector!
EPIC! 👍👍
Great 👍🏻
I need to try this on my camera case!
Do it up! Would love to see what you come up with :) Thanks for commenting
So bad ass!
Freaking sweet
Good video
very nice! I use Krylon fusion for PVC Halloween props. It does scratch off a little MTFBWY
Thanks for the heads up! I'm hoping the crazy amount of clear coat on top will keep it all together! *fingers crossed*
I think it will ;
Love the case. But I was wondering could you do similar ones sometime? Empire and mandalorian
Hi Raven! My current collection is only Rebels, so I'm not needing an Empire or Scum version. However it would be lots of fun to create! Thanks for your comment!
Молодец, классно все сделал
Спасибо!
Do you have Thế case brand?
For foam which supplier did you use
Hi your works was amazing, but a have a doubt , how you cut the foam?
The inside foam is pull and pluck, meaning it is pre-scored into squares. Most of the cutouts are fairly straight forward because of this, but I did do some specialty cuts and even glued some foam back in for some parts. This was especially helpful when I didn't want a full cavity all the way through. You can pluck out the shape, then cut the piece for depth, and put it back in. Let me know if that answers your question..
may use for drones
Nice work Love it a lotto work.
I like that you showed us to inside as well. How much was the case to begin with and where did you get it?
Hi Chris, here is a link to the case. They often go on sale up to 70% off, I think I got it for around $60 at the time

I'm making one of these for my Imperial fleet and your video is a wonderful walkthrough of the whole process! What shape is the case in after 5 years? Did you end up topcoating it?
Thanks Ethan! I did SEVERAL passes of clear coat at the end. It’s in decent shape overall, though admittedly I baby it a bit 😅 some scuffs on the main feet area but overall it preserved well! Can’t wait to see you imperial version!
I can't wait to show it off! The hardest part so far is finding a case that has enough depth to fit everything.
hi, nice work jason!!! very beautiful case! can you please link or let me know where do you buy the case and teh sponge inside? i want to create my scum version :)
thankyou and good work again!
Hi Matteo Zavarise, thank you! Below is the link to the case, I bought it at Canadian Tire and it comes with the foam! If you wait, they often go on sale for 60% off! Would love to see the scum version you come up with! Please share. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/maximum-waterproof-tool-box-medium-0581544p.html
Have you found the paint has withstood the test of time? Is it peeling or chipping 5 years later?
fuckign SICK dude!
thanks!
Amazing work!! I am just getting into X-Wing and helping my LGS start a community as well! I noticed you're from the GTA cause of the Toronto Star papers! :O I would absolutely love to see this in person some time and play some games!! Where do you go for X-Wing?? Face to face? Cheers!
Hey there! Thanks for the praise! Keen eye to spot those papers ;) I usually play at X Planet World of Games near Dixie and Eglington. Xwing night is Monday. Though I will admit as of late I havn't been there much...still would be cool to connect if the dates worked! Let me know.
very nice!! weather may have worked better if you used waterdown red and brown like a rust effect since im guessing you wanted it themed like a case found in the galaxy
ahh that would have been good! I'm pleased with how the weathering turned out, but it is certainly more 'dirty' then 'worn' -- good advice, will keep in mind for the next one! ;)
Just wondering since is been awhile. How has the paint held up? Curious how it will hold up on a pelican case.
Hey Oscar, it has held up pretty good! There are a few gauges where I hit the case against a sharp metal corner of a table, but other than that there is really no damage. big thumbs up!!
Great Video! I was just wondering the wash you used for the battle damage. What color was used and what ratio of paint to water would you suggest. I am use to doing scenery, not using a plastic container.
Hey! I used black acrylic paint at a pretty high water ratio - didn’t exactly measure but I would guess 1:8. This part was really forgiving because if you apply too much you can basically wipe it off and try again. I did several passes to gunk up different areas and get some contrast going. It was easier than I thought it would be! Just give it a try :)
@@hoonter08 Thanks for the help
Awesome video. if you dont mind me asking, what model of the case do you have ? i have a pelican case 1400 and realized i have out grown it and i need to get a larger pelican case.
This is the case I have, probably pretty close in size to your 1400. I am also outgrowning mine :( I'll probably end up getting another medium or small one that I can cram more ships into
www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/maximum-waterproof-tool-box-medium-0581544p.html
Jason Hunter ok cool. Well good job on the case. Yea I decided to go over kill and bought a pelican 1610. Reason is because I have bought 3 pelican cases. Each one I have outgrown. So I went big this time. Also the pluck n foam works good to shape the xwing ships.
Wow! That is a monster case! Would love to see how you have it all setup inside. I agree the pluck foam works great, I've even found a few techniques to change up the pattern as the set grows -- may post a more detailed vid of the interior of the case :)
Hi buddy! OK, I have th3e case painted/weathered/etc and now I am now wondering how you pull the "pluck and pull" WITHOUT going all the way thru the foam?
So two methods. and I'll do my best to convey this with words alone. But the short answer, you need to cut all the way through. Pluck the whole piece out.
1. For the main pieces which require the full depth of the foam, just pull them right out. On the top two layers of my case, I laminated some black card stock cut to size of the whole piece of foam, then after plucking all the main sections, I glued it to the bottom of the foam -- ensuring you don't spread any glue over holes that are fully plucked. It actually makes the sheet a bit more firm and easier to remove. I also pinched two small straps in on either side when I glued it down to make handles to lift it out. You can see the little grey strap poking out at 7:08 czcams.com/video/ixMAi6zDjto/video.html
2. For ships or parts that do not require the full depth, still start by cutting the piece right out, then measure the depth you need and cut the removed piece accordingly. Use a sharp, new, Olfa blade extended out and try to make the cut in one motion. For some of the thinner ones I glued these down to the laminated sheet at the bottom of the cavity, but most just fit in and hold snug against the foam - afterall it's a perfect fit!
Hope that helps. btw would love to see what you've got going on!
@@hoonter08 This helps-Thanks a TON! BTW-Look me up on FB as I will be doing my own tutorial and reveal on what YOU inspired me to do!! I will be posting that as soon as I get everything "plucked" correctly..
I see both matte and clear cans on your bench...may I know in what order they were applied, please?
I used the matte beige colour as a base coat, then did designs with gery, red, black. I clear coated at a few different points during the process, basically anytime I wanted to preserve what I had I would clear coat it, then continue working on top. Hope that answers your question
Jason Hunter Thank you kindly for replying 🙏
Wow! Looks epic! What kind of box did you start with? Christmas is around the corner and this is an awesome idea!
sorry for the late reply on this one...below is the link to the case I started with from Canadian Tire. They often go on sale for 60% off :) Would love to see what you come up with if you give it a shot! www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/maximum-waterproof-tool-box-medium-0581544p.html
Jason Hunter yeah no problem! Id love to give it a go, just gotta scratch together some money, but yeah! Ill end up doin Imperial I think... Idk i dont have any xwing miniatures, but have a Custom YT-1300 at 1/144 scale. Ill put that in there i think. Do you have a messaging thing i could send em to you from?
Hey Tony, you can always send me a private message here on CZcams?
Hi Im just wondering why you didnt remove the pins for the laches and handle? is it better if you remove them? Thanks for the answer
I wasn't sure how easily they would be removed and replaced so I didn't bother. The handle still moves freely after all the paint so it didn't seem to cause a problem. If you wanted to paint the handle a different colour than the case it would make sense to try and remove it.
@@hoonter08 Thankyou for the response I really appreciate it
Fucking Rebels!! Great job! pretty nice
The Rebels will never let up! Thanks for the comment
Case looks great! Inspires me to do one for Scum. 😁
You should do it! I'd love to see what you come up with :D
Where did get Foam for inside the case
Two foam sheets came with the case, they also sold extra pieces that are the right size so I bought 1 extra which also fits!
/love
What role did Groot play in the making of this case?
Vana Micha expert helper
Hey Does anyone know what this specific kind of foam is called? I'm trying to do something similar to this, and I can't find this kind of foam anywhere because I don't know what it's called
Search for Pick and Pack or Pick’N Pluck foam
@@hoonter08 Thank you
Nice work. What did the project cost?
Case was the most expensive piece, aside from that about $50 in paint!
HI buddy! Great tutorial and I hope you still monitor this page-I need to know what case you actually started with and where I might get one...............
.......and no sooner I ask the question when i found that you answered it below!!-So let me ask a DIFFERENT question: Do you know of any tutorials out there about creating the pockets in the foam? I have no idea how to do this...
Glad you found the link to the case.
The foam inside is called 'pluck and pull' foam and is made up of tiny squares which are scored so they easily separate. All you need to do is lay your item down, loosen around the perimeter and remove the piece. Google pluck and pull foam and you'll get a better sense of what it looks like and how to work with it. Hope that helps!
@@hoonter08 I am sure it will-I am BIGTIME inspired and I would love to start showing up at the local gaming nights, & future tournaments, loaded for bear (Rebels of course!) with a case like this one! Again-GREAT WORK and I will keep in touch!!
Show us what you are using today :D
